How much will iPod touch 2.0 cost?

I'm definitely guessing it'll be another twenty-bucker. No doubt about it. Of course, it won't be ANY higher than $20... You're out of your minds if you think Apple will make us pay a penny over twenty.

i am going to guess 20$...however if you spend that much mula on something of that class, you should get it for free..

iPhone users have to pay a premium on monthly plans for using the iPhone, you can live by doing the same.
iPod Touch users have to pay these $20 update fees three or four times a year because they didn't buy an iPhone.

Cool.

Sure. Wouldn't it be great if every single person in the world lived in the US? It's easy for you guys to make comments like this, but you seem to overlook the fact that for most of the world's population, buying an iPhone is impossible. So, we just get screwed?

It's an American company.

But...I'm sure they want the iPhone to be as widespread as possible, so you probably won't have to wait for much longer, or you can just pay for new software for your tiny computer/media player.

iPhone users ALSO pay for cellular coverage from AT&T. They can make calls and browse the web on the go.

Y'know, the plan isn't JUST a subscription excuse for your headphone jack to be on top, a volume jack on the side, a chrome rim, free updates and a camera. You're paying for a service. Much like you pay for gasoline/petrol for your car.

Uhhh... We put 'Bread' in a toaster, and I'm pretty sure we DO pay for that...
You pay for the bread, not the permission to toast it.

Toast analogy doesnt really work for me.

I paid for the toaster, the electricity, the bread, the knife I use to get the stuck bread out of the toaster while its plugged in
but I don't pay to put the toast in the toaster

I paid for the touch, the apps, apple was just kind enough to put the toast in for me :)

But they're charging those of us who want to use apps to install them on the iPod.
You don't pay, you don't play.

Exactly. We're not paying for apps this time around, we're paying for the privilege of paying for apps in the future.

Seriously, does that not sound the least bit crooked to anyone else here?

This isn't the same situation, but if you want to go there... Do you think MacBook Pro owners should get Leopard for free because their machines cost more than MacBooks?

That isn't the same situation either. The reason iPhone users aren't charged, is that we are paying a monthly 'subscription' fee for our phones, of which apple gets revenue.

When you buy the Touch, it is a one off payment.

Yeah, and ... ? I mean, it's the same thing when you buy a PSP, yet that hasn't stopped Sony from adding lots of cool features over the years, free of charge ... And let's not forget about the Zune, either - same thing. Apple's pathetic excuse for fleecing everyone is just that - a pathetic excuse. It all boils down to pure greed, plain and simple.

That is nice of Sony, for sure.

Look. When you buy the Touch, you pay for what you get. And are happy to do so.

You don't have to buy the upgrade. It doesn't make your existing Touch suddenly worthless. But if you think that the new applications will enhance your life, you have the choice to purchase them.

Choose. And get over it.

No, I bought my iTouch for what it could do at the time I bought it. If I want it to do something more than when I first bought it, I'd gladly pay money if it does things that I want it to do. If I'm cheap though and don't want to pay for updates, I'd get the iPhone for the 'free' updates.

You know, some of us don't have the option of buying an iPhone, as much as we'd like to - so that argument is moot.

And I wish I had the kind of money you seem to have to throw away on toys - there's no way in hell I would have spent $370 on my 8GB Touch last November if I had thought it would forever be just an iPod. I bought my Touch SOLELY because I found out that I could jailbreak it and install the iPhone apps on it, for free (plus whatever else I wanted, through installer.app) ... I guess my expectations are higher than yours, but $370USD for an 8GB iPod seems like a colossal waste of money. I expected more and since I jailbroke it within minutes of unboxing, I've had more since day one. I think Apple is just plain greedy with these updates, and I refuse to be fleeced like all the other sheep out there.

Absolutely, I couldn't agree more. I bought a hackable, expandable device that has been far more than a media player since day one. Isn't that what you bought??

The only thing that pissed me off with the $20 upgrade was they gave it free to new iPod touch owners and dropped the price by $20. Makes no sense, at all.

Wirelessly posted (iTouch 1.1.3 (JB'd): Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A93 Safari/419.3)

No, and I paid for Leopard on launch day.

The difference is, some people will be getting this update for free. Apple is choosing to screw the rest of us, and I find that objectionable.

NO actually the people who get the test are probably gonna have it taken away from them later because it is a beta and very confidential

I have an idea of getting people to stop complaining about buy a software firmware to upgrade. Instead, they should release newer firmwares on newer ipod touches model. If you want the new updates, get a new ipod touch. I'd gladly shell out another 400 bucks instead of 20.

who do you think I was talking about? iPhone owners duh!!!!
How do you figure iPhone owners 'are probably gonna have it taken away from them later because it is a beta and very confidential' ... ? They'll get the firmware update for free, and it won't be 'taken away later' ... Or am I missing something here?

No, you are are paying for NEW SOFTWARE--a new operating system, if you will--which will allow you to put other programs on your iPod. How Mac users with Tiger are bitching that Apple didn't give them Leopard for free so they can use Time Machine + Time Capsule?

And as for your incessant complaining that you can't get an iPhone...GET OVER IT. If you want one that badly, move to a country where it's available. No American company is obligated to make its product available to users in foreign countries and Apple isn't obligated to give you anything. I want high speed trains and a talking toilet, but I can't get them unless I move to Japan. I understand that and I've made peace with it.

Ooh, I love this analogy - see, some users DO get the new firmware for free. Can you imagine the uproar if Apple had given Leopard for free to MacBook Pro owners, but made MacBook owners pay? That's exactly what is happening here. I understand that Apple is hiding behind their accounting excuse but once again, it was Apple's decision to account for the iPod Touch differently - call it shortsightedness, call it pure greed, call it whatever you want - it's still a decision that Apple made that is essentially screwing us Touch owners over.
