The A5 chip. Not much else can be done with the device to be honest. If Apple release a smaller iPad I'm thinking the Touch will be discontinued.

To me the biggest weakness in the ipod touch is that the screen shatters even if it is only dropped from knee-height. The single biggest improvement would be to design the thing so that the glass is shatter-proof and doesn't go all the way to the edges.
Otherwise just normal camera/speed upgrades will be expected, but the device's fragility is its biggest problem right now.

Yeah I agree. Why would they discontinue the iPod Touch if they bring a new smaller iPad?

Hm, the iPod touch only has an A4 chip in and the iPad 3 is rumored to have an A6 chip. The Touch is getting behind
If Apple decides to keep on selling the iPod touch by the Fall iPod event this year, I say they should add:
A5 chip
512MB RAM (Doubled from 256MB)
Slight, slight redesign
Better rear and front camera

More ram would be perfect. Some applications would run much better i believe.

128GB tops my list, simply because I like to have all of my music in one place and I've surpassed 64GB (I'm using an old 80GB click wheel iPod at the moment). Oh, yes, please. At the very minimum, 128GB. And, perhaps, also, a longer battery life.
1) Better camera, maybe a LED flash
2) vibrator would be cool
3) more RAM!!!!

I would also like to see GPS.
(although with Google maps unavailable offline this would be rather useless)

I don't think we'll ever see an iPod touch with GPS, because that would require some sort of 3G/4G/LTE connection. :/

The iPod touch already comes in 8GB, 32GB and 64GB models, but in capacity terms, it's still a way behind the iPod classic, which gives you a whopping 160GB.
I'm fine with the current iPod touch 4gen; except camera; should be at least par with iPhone 4S.

always going to be room for a faster processor and more RAM.
there is also room for battery improvements (which everyone knows the current battery life is embarrassing when you play more graphic intensive games, about 2 hours for a supposed gaming device.
Capacity is overdue for updating, its been what 3 yrs since the last capacity bump yet Apple continues to charge the same price when I'm sure the production cost is cheaper by now.
Larger screen can be done too the 3.5 screen is getting old would be nice to see a 4 or 4.2 screen on both the iphone and ipod touch.

actually you can get a special holder for your ipod that sticks it to your car windscreen, it has a 3g chip which only works with it's gps app

I would be happy if the body was redesigned to to iPhone 4/4s body or something similar, and vibration wouldn't be a bad idea either.
I have never seen anything like that, and I don't think I will. The implantation of the 3g chip would drive the price beyond reason for a mere holder. I don't see the point.
Enough cars already have a GPS built in.
