So it seems Apple may be done with this weeks delightful daily updates.

Does that mean that whatever they release subsequent will be during the presentation?

Further to that, it would be reasonable to think that anything announced during the presentation would be a redesign, not a spec bump.

So ... redesigned iPod?

I agree, they're done with the week but personally i don't think they are gonna announce an ipod during the event is not THAT important for them, after that only they know...

Perhaps. I was thinking that as well, everything they released this week had mostly internal upgrades. AirPower and the iPod are still missing.

I think it’s possible as a short hardware show off segment in between the services announcements. That’s if it’s something somewhat new in design and not just a spec bump.

Not if this story turns out to be true: https://www.macrumors.com/2019/03/23/apple-game-subscription-monday/

If Apple debuts a game subscription service, there is a good chance they will be showing off a new Ipod Touch, perhaps a Nintendo Switch like device?

A new ipod touch optimized for gaming, along with a gaming subscription would be perfect to hook the next generation of Apple customers. I'm sure they could produce a few commercials that would have every kid begging for one.

At $200, the current touch is the cheapest iOS device.

Nahh an ipod touch optimized for gaming would be pretty expensive IMO, i mean we're talking here about not only good processor and RAM but a "decent" battery life, the IPT6 was pretty much a disappointment in all those aspects.

Apple is also working on a premium games subscription for its App Store and discussing it with potential partners, according to people with knowledge of the plans. This service won’t take on new cloud-based streaming offerings like Google Stadia. Instead, it will focus on iPhones and iPads and bundle together paid games from different developers that consumers can access for a monthly fee.

That sounds potentially great for me. I have no interest in gaming but if this subscription service supplements the cost of the iPod Touch like games do with for the price of a gaming machines then I’m all for it.

But knowing Apple they will want large profits from both. :(

I’m not actually too surprised, it was a rumor with nothing but some random reference from beta iOS. iPad Pro and most other "rumored" devices had several sources, image leaks, or just more evidence.
That’s not to suggest I’m not sad about it. I love iPod.... I absolutely don’t need one, but they are super cool, thin, easy to hold, and just fun. But even if I got one (if there was a new one) it wouldn’t be used and the purchase would be made due to the inner 6-year old in me, lol.

Kallum.

I feel like if there wasn't going to be a replacement the 6th gen would have been taken down last week when Apple were tinkering with everything else - I don't think it's likely it can be sold beyond iOS13 being announced at WWDC as I can't see an A8/1GB device being supported past iOS 12. I'm pretty sure it would be unprecedented for Apple to continue selling something past the point they announce it will no longer be supported?

A prediction from MCK and a direct reference in iOS itself are as strong as rumors get. And yesterday’s event wasn’t the deadline for its release.

Unprecedented because it would be truly bad form. For those reasons you mentioned, the 6th generation touch will almost certainly be taken down before the summer. And because of strong rumors, it will likely be replaced with a new generation.

Edit- actually, I think iOS 13 will support the 6th gen iPod touch, so the update or axe could happen as late as summer of next year. But my feeling is it will happen this year in summer or fall.

The only chance now for any new iPod Touch is September when they release the new iPhone (as they did when they announced the iPhone 5) along with the release of Apple Arcade.

If they don't release anything then, the iPod will be dead.

You’re probably right. Anyway, I’ve already spent part of the money on a new soft synth. It’ll be my Christmas time toy now if it ever happens.

I tend to agree - Apple could market the iPod as a gaming device and release it along with Apple Arcade, but if they do go that route it wouldn't just be a spec upgrade, I think it would have to involve a new form factor with a larger screen, and it would need to have one of the newer processors (I'm thinking A12). At the same time, I think they would still want to keep the price point on the lower end though so maybe something based on one of their older iPhone designs?

The 6th gen was released in July 2015 and it came with no warning. I remember calling my local Apple store the day it released and the employees didn't even know it had been updated (until I told them). So who knows? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

An iPod without headphone jack. Just what music lovers need.
That would be a shame.

Personally, I use an Ipod Classic for music. Ipod Touch to me is a gaming device. The unused headphone just has been gathering dust (literally), that I clean out with a paperclip from time to time.

I'm pretty sure that the iPod Touch will not be updated anymore and will be quietly discontinued in September.

If anyone is interested in an iPod Touch (and doesn't want to get an iPhone SE as a Touch) and find the current model acceptable, they should probably get one before September. If Apple discontinues the Touch in the same manner they discontinued the Classic, there will be a quiet "claw back" from retail channels of any stock on the shelves the night before it is discontinued.

I believe that the Touch 6 will run iOS13 since I can't see Apple selling a device that can not be updated to the latest.

It's extremely doubtful that the Touch 6 will run iOS14 (fall 2020) so the Touch 6 will be either updated or discontinued in September.

Honestly I think it might get some stage time at WWDC (new designs aren't ever released with just a press release, so I'm guessing a new design) - if it's tied into Apple Arcade as a great handheld gaming device that's relatively cheap for kids, I can see why they'd want to emphasise it's place given diminishing sales. Think of it this way: another quiet release might spur a little interest for a couple of months by the relatively few who still want one, but Apple want to go bigger and try to reposition it to appeal more broadly.
