It would be a brilliant move on AT&T's part to offer 3G access to the new ipod touch. They are about to lose exclusivity on the iphone, and will likely lose a lot of customers soon. I don't want to change wireless carriers, and pay $2,000 for iphone service with ATT. However, I would sign up with ATT for a $15/month touch pay as you go data plan.
To all who think iphones and touches "cannibalize" each other, the new iphone4 has already come out, allowing Apple and ATT to make their sales and get the contracts locked in. So by offering the ipod touch now there is little to "cannibalize" (not that I buy that argument). If you want to pay twice the cost or more for one device, go for it, but you can have the same functionality for a fraction of the cost if they would just offer 3G touch. I will buy the new touch regardless, as long as it has camera, retina and hopefully GPS, but it would be awesome to have data too.

If I want everything with me at all times then let me. who are you to tell me I can't. Its not your library. Its mine. Plus when someone says they are planing on having a large library, it does not mean it will not stop. 40,000 songs? meh. I might not reach that much but it will be large.

Maybe i should tell you you can only place 5 songs in your playlists and have only 3 playlists.

Why all the vitriol? I was just trying to offer a reasonable solution to the large-library-small-iPod conundrum that can be implemented today. Never told you what you can or can't do. Do whatever you want with your library except fit it all on a too-small storage device.

There's no point comparing the solution I described to telling me how many playlists I can have, as there is no practical limitation on this feature. There is, however, a limitation on portable storage capacity. You are welcome to have "everything with you at all times" as long as your library doesn't outsize the capacity of the largest iPod. That's a simple fact. Using smart playlists can mitigate this to some degree for many users.

Chill.
