I really wonder what iOS 4 for iPad is going to be like. Will it just be plain iOS 4 we know from the iPhone blown up or is it going to have some extra feautures?

Will it get a stocks and wheather app? I mean what would have taken them so long otherwise?

I hope they drop the old iPod Touch design the chrome back+ bezel is getting really boring. I would prefer it when they would take the stainless steel from the iphone 4, what do you think?

And when they are pushing the Touch to 128 Gb I think they will stop the Classic - it just wouldn't make sense anymore.

I am also interested in what they're planning for the Nano. In the past few years the evolution really seemed to have slowed down. I think the clickwheel is too small and the camera seems weirdly misplaced.

If they make a touchscreen shuffle I would buy one in a heartbeat. The current one was a nice idea but the navigation is not really top notch imo.

Here are some other things that i think will come along with the annual ipod refresh

1. iPad OS4 software will be released
2. Information on the white iPhone
3. Additional information of reception issues
4. New Macbook Air

1. nope
2. nope
3. nope
4. unlikely

Read what you said in bold. k?

My guess for what's gonna go down?

A new iPod Touch model, one with a 2-5mp rear camera, a VGA-1.3mp front facing camera, email based Facetime, it's gonna come in 16, 32, and 64 GB flavors.

Another Hail Mary is that we get two models of those iPod Touch's, one Wi-Fi only, and one with 3G, with plans the likes of the iPad.

They'll most likely announce them, then release them after there promo ends, or just not include them.

iPod Touch 3G => not gonna happen.

Btw. do you guys think apple will be able to put a gyroscope into the touch? Is there enough space for it?

we will also get an update on the white iPhone 4 for that day.

I never did like the White iPods, however since I have had the Touch with its "chromed" back I begin see a white model would be nice, it would not show scratches so badly. My Touch has been in a Speck silicone cover, and a plastic shield for the screen since day zero. I don't have any scratches but I have what I would describe as marring of the surface which looks like smudges but can not be cleaned off with regular cleaners, and I will not resort to metal polish. A black touch would look nice but not for long if got scratched it would look terrible. It would be nice to have the Touch in the same case as the iPhone 4G with it's ceramic back.

I used to work in the metal finishing, and plating business. I really don't understand what Apple is doing for the metal finish on the Touch. It is not a "chrome" finish. What people don't realize is calling a polished metal surface "Chrome" is not really correct. The bright metal is actually nickle and to protect the soft nickle plating a transparent coating of hard chrome is plated on top. If the Touch and the earlier iPhone had real chrome plating it would be much, much harder to scratch, and I would not see a silicone cover damaging the surface.

I have to confess I have become intelligent fanboy of Apple. Intelligent means I like what Apple makes, I like how their equipment works, and it's quality. As for kissing earth when Steve Jobs comes to the Apple Window of Appearances, please I remember when Steve Jobs, and Bill Gates where in the same computer club in San Fransisco, ripping each others ideas off, and where so broke they had to mooch money to get something to eat.

But there is a 64 GB ipod touch
64GB Touch uses 2 x 32GB chips. The iPhone only has 1 chip, thus maxed at 32GB. To be honest, I don't expect seeing an increase in storage. Price of solid state memory is actually increasing, not decreasing.

I just want an iPhone 4 without the voice plan, just data. I'm a shut-in with no friends and so I don't have a need to call anyone, but I still want an iPhone for the data. So, if they make an iPod touch with 3G, 5MP camera, retina display, gyroscope, etc, I will be really happy.

(i know this will never happen, so you don't have to tell me how apple would never do this.:))

That's not up to Apple. That's up to the wireless carriers to offer data only plan.

The mystery application is iWork for the iPhone/iPod Touch with integration between them and the new iLife package. You will have Pages, Numbers, and Keynote apps for your iOS4 devices.

Claimed next-generation iPod touch LCD and front bezel showing apparent camera hole
MacMagazine reports (Google translation) that it has received information from a "reliable source within Apple" that the company is planning to hold its traditional September iPod-focused media event a bit early this year, with the middle of this month appearing to be the targeted date.According to the source, the event will include a focus on the company's next-generation iPod touch, as well as information on an iOS 4 release for iPad. Revisions to other iPod models would also appear to be a reasonable expectation, although the report does not have confirmation as to whether they would be launched at the August event or held until the following month.

Rumors about the next-generation iPod touch have been circulating in recent weeks, with continuing evidence in both software betas and parts leaks suggesting that we can expect a front-facing FaceTime camera in the new iPod touch.

The rumored timeframe for Apple's media event also corresponds to a claimed August 17th release date for iLife '11. It is not immediately clear how an iLife update would directly relate to Apple's typically tightly-focused iPod events held around this time of the year, but rumors have also claimed that Apple will be introducing a new mystery application in the suite, and it is possible that the addition could be tied into iPod/iOS enhancements.

The iPad 3G model does most of what you want. A friend of mine has an 3G iPad and I played with it a while. What a sweet machine. I am not interested in a 3G model the WiFi model is what I will purchase. I am sure they will add these other features down the road, with the Apple business model called tickle out upgrades to keep em coming plan. :D

iPhone on T-Mobile to be announced?

While it is totally a guess on my part, it looks like I am the first to say this: Could this mid-August event finally announce the end of AT&T's exclusivity agreement? Last month, there were rumors about a T-Mobile USA iPhone coming in the third quarter? Could the mid-August event be the place where it is announced?

nope. this is an IPOD event.

There are certain situations where spam is necessary and this is a good forum to do it in. IPODS!!! NOT IPHONE!

It's not all about the damn iPhone and iPad.

In other words, since there are VERY MANY people who are so damn concerned about the overrated iPhone. There will probably be something about it but I don't know.

Forgive me if someone already suggested this, but perhaps maybe this mysterious new iLife application could be some sort of iApps, app development program? Something similar to hyper card and what Google just announced for Android. Now that would be friggin awesome. An app development kit for the masses, and I'm sure Apple could make something that is powerful for us average joes :). Basically like what iMovie is to Final Cut Pro, a consumer level development kit to create iPhone/iPad apps.

iPad

Guys, someone else has mentioned the same thing happening to them further up but noone picked up on it...

I ordered an iPad on 31st July and the order status says it won't ship until the 16th, and wont arrive until the 18th August. The guy a bit further up had the same dates, and he ordered on the 1st August.

Could it be they are holding shipping for a refresh?
If not I'll be ready to cancel my order!

Nah, your order is probably delayed because they just released the iPad to more international markets. In order for an effective launch, they need to stockpile inventory for the impending markets, thus crimping availability in existing markets.

This wouldn't be a problem if Apple's manufacturing partners had ample capacity however in the case of the iPad (and the iPhone 4), they do not. There are severe supply constraints on the touchscreen display part. This forces Apple to restrict the allocation of inventory to existing markets (like domestic US).

Wait am I missing something?...where the hell did that come from? WTF does it have to do with anything he said? Or is there something you would like to share with the class?

I only share with the class if there is a speakers fee and then extra for questions for the audience.

I really wonder what iOS 4 for iPad is going to be like. Will it just be plain iOS 4 we know from the iPhone blown up or is it going to have some extra feautures?
My guess is that there will be some additional UI improvements specific to the iPad's large screen. There is no other hardware differentiation. You should think about using spell check.

Will it get a stocks and wheather app? I mean what would have taken them so long otherwise?
Not important. There are dozens of weather and stock apps, mostly free.

I hope they drop the old iPod Touch design the chrome back+ bezel is getting really boring. I would prefer it when they would take the stainless steel from the iphone 4, what do you think?
My guess is that the iPod touch 4 will closely resemble the iPhone 4's industrial design because previous iPod touches resembled the respective iPhones.

And when they are pushing the Touch to 128 Gb I think they will stop the Classic - it just wouldn't make sense anymore.
No one knows.

I am also interested in what they're planning for the Nano. In the past few years the evolution really seemed to have slowed down. I think the clickwheel is too small and the camera seems weirdly misplaced.
There are some rumors about the nano moving to a touchscreen display. The clickwheel is pretty much the same size as it has been since the iPod mini. Even if you think it's too small, the mini/nano has been the most successful iPod in sales numbers, so your sentiments are not widely shared.

If they make a touchscreen shuffle I would buy one in a heartbeat. The current one was a nice idea but the navigation is not really top notch imo.
Not too sure if what sort of user experience you would have touching a miniscule display. Not much room for any navigation menus.

Why wouldnt there be any informations about iOS 4 for iPad? It's sad to be released in autumn so the timing would be allright.
My calendar says that autumnal equinox is 8:09pm Pacific Time on September 22nd.

Rumor sites have said that iOS 4 for iPad is coming in November. November is autumn, mid-August is not.

You really should look into a web browser that does spell checking.

iPod Touch 3G => not gonna happen.

Btw. do you guys think apple will be able to put a gyroscope into the touch? Is there enough space for it?

Why not? They have the iPad that offers 3G and those things are selling like hotcakes. It will mean alittle thicker iPod Touch, but it would still be thinner than an iPhone, plus it could really be a big plus if they want to sell it as a big media product....Camera, internet, all the jazz.

Btw. do you guys think apple will be able to put a gyroscope into the touch? Is there enough space for it?
It depends.

If they make it the same form factor as the iPhone, it should fit no problem as the iPod touch has no cellular circuitry. If the iPod touch was considerably thinner, they might have some physical issues in including all of the features of the iPhone, the most glaring one being the autofocus camera module for the rear-facing camera.

We really won't know until Apple announces the iPod touch.
