Are you saying that Titanium has worse wi-fi reception than Aluminium? It has been a long time since I have used or seen an Titanium PowerBook G4. None of my buddies have it, so I do not really know.

Not all all. I was just asking a question....

Any ideas on the blackbook?

Well, since it's all about aluminum now.. will the new Macbook only comes in silver then?

I am really hesitating about getting the modbook right now or wait weeks, months or years in the hope of a great revelation earlier than planned...
Waiting for unknown releases can be very dangerous. They can be around the corner or 3 years away.. or never.

I personally believe Apple will release a tablet with a stylus within a year. I think it'll be an iPod Touch with extra functions, not a MacBook without a keyboard. And I'm probably totally wrong.

That said ... Apple said they were going to "transition" their products to something shortly. I do think it's wise to wait to find out what that is since it's within 6 weeks (... could even be today as the iMacs 10 year birthday).

edit:
Most people think "if I bought X today, and Apple released Y tomorrow, I would be very disappointed". Of course you would, but it's a total gamble and we don't know what's coming. Better to think "if I bought X today and Apple released Y tomorrow - would I feel better or worse than if I bought X in a year, and Apple released Y the day after". Try it with 2 years too. All are gambles... but better to get some other perspectives.

The TiBook has shocking WiFi reception, the Aluminium PowerBooks weren't much better especially compared with the plastic iBook and now the MacBook.

The MacBook Pro reception is much better though.

Why is the MacBook Pro's reception better?

modbook

Bonjour,

have you ever got a clue about the fact that a modbook is not as well built as a mac ? I heard about many good reviews and prices won by this device...

As I need to buy a portable drawing tablet I think this device can be good...

Thanks

Frank

Also, many new releases will not be perfect from day one, and the current MacBooks are probably as good as they are going to get. So, if you are buying on the guidelines of reliability, it is best to buy the product you know is reliable, instead of gambling on the reliability of the new product.

Im in this same boat, Im in the market to get a new MacBook Pro and Im all but ready to pull the trigger. But the possability of the new line coming out soon is keeping me from making the purchase.
Isnt there something wrong with the video card in the current MBPs? Im currently a PC guy and Im not yet up on all the info about Macs that I should be.

I, too, am in the market for a new MacBook Pro but I've seen references on the forum regarding video card issues with the MBP. Can someone bring the others up to speed on if this would be a deal breaker with the current model?

Thanks.

On top of this question... Does this issue have a chance of affecting the new mbp?

No one (at least no one who is talking) knows when there will be a new MBP or what its specs will be, so this question can't be answered. But one would have to assume that Apple would not allow this situation to affect a new design if it can be avoided.

I too am waiting for the new Macbook Pro because of the malfunctioning Nvidia graphics cards. I will be going off to college soon and I certainly do not want to buy a MBP that may fail after a couple of months.

From all the articles that I've read so far, neither Apple nor Nvidia seem to have acknowledged the MBP failures to be linked to the 8400/8600 cards. I really hope that they take this situation seriously and release reliable notebooks in the near future (preferably in early Sept).

If only the black Macbooks didn't smudge as much, I'd go and buy it right now

waiting and rebates

What if I purchase online a new macbook and touch on September 14, or whenever the last day of the back to school promo ends? Isn't there a 2 week return policy? I figure I can then wait up to 2 weeks to see if the new line is for sale yet and then return/exchange the macbook for the updated one. The promo says all new Mac computers are eligible. It does list specific ipods so I probably couldn't exchange for the newer ipod. My son would much prefer a silver laptop over a white one...Luckily, we have plenty of PC's, so he can wait for his notebook. Also, won't the retail stores be out of the old ones soon?

Alternatively, if both the macbook and the touch had a price reduction, and were updated, that might be a wise choice to. That is, to wait and buy after the promo, but at lower prices.......

Or, I could just go with the Dell for less $$ and get choice of color and bigger screen. This is the first time I'm considering Mac, based on my relative's opinion. We have used Windows forever and we are used to it. We could get the new Dell now and buy the new touch for Christmas. It's for my son (18 yrs) , and he doesn't really care

Just trying to get the most bang for my buck...and weighing the options.

Anyone know how long it takes for sites like Amazon or MacMall to get in updated macbooks/mbp's?

I would buy it from apple but I most likely wont customize it, so either of those sites would let me avoid taxes (which is stupid for buying on the 'net), and have an easier return policy (amazon treats it like anything else, if theres anything wrong like a dead pixel, you can send it right back for a new one).

If apple was smart they will get these in by Christmas shopping season. I see macworld for the MAJOR updates as well as new products suich as an blu-ray drive in all macs as well as apple TV. some kind of digtalk device that can snyc all your drvices and your network etc.. THAT is for january kids

I would have thought the best time to buy is right after Apple release the new models. Go and hunt the older stock and you should find a bargain.

Macworld is for new and revamped products. Not regular updates.

I predict the iPhone OS mini-tablet, iTunes X, and a possible home server for MWSF 2009.

For a lower price than last year.

And a 2006 MacBook Pro still has a better GPU than a 2008 MacBook, so GPU-intensive users on a MacBook budget may choose to get an old MacBook Pro.

Historically, does Apple bump up prices when refreshing the MB line or releasing a new line of MBs?

I ask this just because I'd like to get my hands on one of the (rumored) new MBs, but I don't want to wait if I have strong reason to believe that they'll be more expensive.

What has the trend been, historically? Any thoughts on how the pricing will go this time?

That is such a geek or newbie's naive view. For a start you wouldn't be "stuck" with last year's technology. Having consulted to businesses and individuals about which IT equipment to buy I ask them what they need it for; 9 times out of 10 people do not need the latest gear so being "stuck" is by far their best option.

If it were just a matter of the fastest, best and biggest then it wouldn't matter but of course money is a huge factor.

I would not recommend people have an 8 core Mac Pro just so they can email quicker! If that's what you do, then it is highly irresponsible.
