Itouch camera... Hey Stanford students...

Well let's resurrect this thread again. Seems that since this thread has been around so long maybe there is a longstanding demand?

Seriously, for those of us who are otherwise happy with the itouch an attachable camera is an obvious improvement to what we bought and paid for already... especially to take advantage of a wifi opportunity. It really doesn't seem far fetched to imagine a case with a rotatable or double lens camera which allows front facing or facing away photos and web cam streaming leading to the holy grail which the iphone still doesn't have - face to face video conferencing. The Fring app among others is just waiting for an itouch camera. Skype is probably waiting too... everyone is just waiting for the hardware.

It may make business sense from Apple's perspective to try and drive those who want this "upgrade" to buy a whole new iphone with a camera. Apple gets paid in full twice for maybe a $50 incremental improvement, and then the cell carrier's get their monthly mafia honorarium. But this obviously isn't in the consumer's interest... A one time layout of $50-$100 for an attachable camera pays big when you look at the long term expenses of an Iphone... (and dont forget, those of us locked into other carriers can't take that plunge even if we wanted to).

Any Stanford students need a project? Here it is... you're sure to get a good grade, make some good cash if you bring it to market, and you'll be doing a public service to the unserved consumer. AND you can probably get away with saying you came up with the idea yourself. Alas, I'll forgo my claim in exchange for a working demo... ;)

but, there is gps for teh ipod touchz......

how about GPS??

lol

i'll start another thread for that

there's a app for jailbroken ipods called "ROQY BLUETOOTH", it's a bluetooth stack for a wireless gps reciever and costs about 8 euros to activate, but you will need to download an map application (very large, about 1.5GBs) like navigon or tomtom. for more informaion, go to http://www.roqy-bluetooth.net/
or http://modmyi.com/cydia/package.php?id=12782

Ps: you also need an second generation ipod or better
(due to bluetooth capabilities)

Why do you want a camera on your iPod when you can have a sweet laser pointer?

Why would Apple let 3rd-parties create a camera accessory, when they could easily create one themselves, and make not millions but billions? -
Plus the fact, iPhone has a camera to make it seem more desirable than iPod touch. Make no mistake, Apple want you to buy the iPhone.

R-Fly

no camera for ipod touch

Nope ... no camera. Get an iPhone ;)

If the iPhone is too thin for anything more than a 2MP camera, I think we can pretty much rule out an internal camera for the iPod Touch.

Apple would never put a camera on any ipod that one of the great distinctions between the iphone and an ipod.

I don't think the iPod needs a camera, but the camera as an attachment is a pretty good idea.

It gives people what they want without actually sullying the iPod itself.

Apple needs to open up apps to be able to use the dock port. Now THAT could spawn some interesting things...

If you have no use for a phone, why are you carrying one? Plus, if you're carrying a phone, why would you need to carry a camera?

Don't bother, it'll just go straight into the trash.

Too bad. You want those features, get an iPhone, because iPod touch ain't getting them. That's like saying I want Gainestown in my Mac mini when it comes out. Ain't gonna happen.

It's not a "music player", it's a multimedia player. Its primary function is to listen to or watch media. And where did you get the idea your iPod touch had 512 mb of ram? It has 128mb. And just because it has a faster clockspeed doesn't mean it's faster. Comparing desktop processors to iPod processors are like comparing Apples and Oranges. Rest assured, your iMac G3 has far more processing power than the iPod touch. Actually plenty of multimedia players today have wifi, touch screen and an operation system. For example, look at offerings from Archos.

There is no need for a camera on the iPod touch. Not only does it potentially take away iPhone's market share, it is plain useless and a waste of space. An iPod is primarily intended for media contents. Some of its PDA-esque features are just bonuses, not main attraction.

Apple won't put a camera in the iPod Touch because it would cannibalize Mac Pro sales.

You have an ipod touch. Not an iphone. So I'll assume you have a cell phone. Almost every cell phone has a camera. So why do you want one on your ipod? If you wish to put the pic on the ipod simply email it to yourself using txt and then download on ipod. Simple.

Incorrect.

Apple listened and ipod touch 4G has a camera

I take it you didn't read the dates of the posts then?

Read carefully

Why do you think I wrote ipod touch 4G instead of generally saying ipod touches?

For all the people that was against a camera in ipod touch, they clearly were wrong since Apple added them.
