The 16Gb size is a little on the small side, but it's not a deal breaker. I'm thinking realistically I don't see myself using more than 12Gb for music, leaving 4Gb for movies etc, and as most of us don't carry around a library of movies in the same way as we would music (why?) that should work out fine.

My major reservations right now are to do with how closed it is: is it as closed as previous iPods and the iPhone, or does Apple plan to make this one a little more expandable? This could work out as a pretty good PDA if they've done it right.

And does it support Bluetooth?

I have a Nokia N800 on my Amazon wishlist right now, but depending on what ends up being discovered about the iPod Touch, I may seriously go with the Touch instead.

Um... rises before, drops after.. Buy on the rumor "high" sell on the news "low"

isn't that the opposite of Buy Low, Sell High?

Seems like the time to buy is right now, after the news, after the price dropped.

No, I mean buy when the rumor starts making it's impact felt in the stock price, then sell right when the news comes out. But yeah, your wording is correct. That's just the phrase that is often thrown around.

Of course, you could see today's drop as a buying opportunity.

Off topic... but has anyone noticed the Hi-Fi is no longer available via the online store?

If they put the HD in the touch it'll cannibalise both the iPhone and Classic sales. Because nobody wants to be tied to a carrier but still want majority of the features of the iPhone which for the most part is its multimedia capabilities.

Also the battery life would suffer

Off topic... but has anyone noticed the Hi-Fi is no longer available via the online store?

true. its still in there under the ipod+itunes section but when you click on buy now it says that the product is unavailable.

goodbye ipod hifi.

Oh and one more thing

please let the ipod touch have volume controls on the side of it. I just read a post saying that it may not. surely apple wouldnt overlook that

No sarcasim. Of Course!

Some people just want it downloaded for them, and wants every app known to man kind. Im not saying it would be bad, but as a WiFi junky myself and a person that loves to be connected, not having mail is not a deal breaker. It has Safari, its great.

No WPA kinda blows though.

So the iPhone can't output video to a standard or HD TV. Can the iPod Touch?
I found the answer to my question: According to Apple's tech specs, all of the new iPods except the shuffle can output standard video via "component and composite video through dock connector."

To me that's a big addition to the iPod touch that the iPhone doesn't have.

Dissapointment for me

I had been waiting for a larger hd as my 80 gb ipod was already full, I didn't want to be deleting files all the time I want all my music in my ipod. Then I wanted an Iphone-like ipod. Well both came out and now can't decide which one to get, the classic at 160gb or the touch. Or I could get the classic and wait for a definite iphone hack.

The complaints are kind of dumb....i mean it's FLASH .....we know that flash tops out at around 16 gigs for anything affordable...why are you shocked?

If you want a frigging hard drive to Store tons of crap, go get one....

I can fit a butt load of music, TV shows and movies into 16 gigs. Plus it forces you to manage your library better, instead of just using the iPod as a 'dumping ground' for your whole collection.

For people like me, that most likely NEVER get the chance to own the iPhone (at least not in this decade - thanks Canadian cell phone companies:mad:) this thing is the best we'll get.

Exactly...a 16 gig flash drive alone is going to run you $130-170 anyway.

I have a 3G 40GB ipod. It holds every single song I own. I'm supposed to DOWNGRADE to 16GB, not have all my music with me so i can watch a couple of movies?

No, since you can get the iPod Classic instead that has AT LEAST twice as much storage as your iPod does.

"but I wanna get the iPod Touch!". Yeah, and I want a pony.

But this complete lack of capacity will keep a majority of ipod users from buying it.

And they can get the Classic instead. Me? I have a 6GB iPod Mini, and I have been thinking of upgrading to video iPod. And Touch fits the bill quite nicely indeed.

Stick an 80GB drive in the back, make it twice as thick, it's still no thicker than my 3G ipod.

THat woud be too thick for Apple and todays consumers.

Then we'll buy it, no complaints.

Seriously: did you go take a leak when SJ talked about iPod Classic? It has all the storage you could ever want, go buy that one instead.

You failed to follow your own advice.

Quantity is only part of the story. Do you remember the when Apple made a big deal about the Apple Lossless Codec? Try encoding all your tracks with a lossless codec and see how many of those 20,000 fit in 16GB of space. Quality matters to some people.

Apple has NEVER linked lossless with iPods...lossless is for pros worried about keeping ALL their music in hard disks. Almost NOBODY encodes in lossless for using their iPods...please be more realistic next time.

Has it ever occurred to any of you that Apple doesn't want to satisfy everyone's demands all at once, and would rather releases products in a way that will maximize sales?

I'm very excited about the iTouch.

It is a WiFi iPod with a method to input data. Which means it's a WiFi PDA.

I've been waiting for an Apple PDA and this looks like a pretty good one. The fact that I can surf from my home network is just gravy. The price is a little high but there really is no comparison. If 16 gigs is a technologic limitation then you just have to live with it.

my opinion....

i like it and all...wish there was a little more storage...but i love it!
touch screen...WIFIIII!!! AND SAFARIII... everyone was saying that those two things werent gonna be on there...and they are!!!

hopefully apple will add more apps to the homescreen? is that possible? maybe iChat or something?

Come on people, look at this in comparison to what is on the market. Would you rather buy a Nokia N800 with 128MB of memory (~$360) and buy a 16GB SDHC card for about another $350?

Or how about one of those nice BIG PMPs on the market with 20-60GB harddrives (starting around $400) but a bit bulky for the pocket and a web browsing experience that is not ideal?

I can understand that your "Ideal" device would have more capacity, but this is a leading edge product in the market no matter how you look at it (prices, specs, design, performance, etc).

I challenge anyone to find a product that compares to this one that can even come close to the performance, storage, and size of this one. There just is no good competitor on the market today. Period!!!!
