Thats a really great observation, and it just confirms that this is real OR that the "faker" knows what he is doing more than we thought. Any chance of getting a hold of those pics?

Not unless I could figure out a way to get everything but the end of the cable out of the pic. Will have to ask him on monday.

Otherwise pics from a site floor are up there with "get yourself fired AND possibly in jail" land.

Actually that was one of his comments - he said that he found it really hard to believe that a local worker could smuggle in a camera - bypass security, risk his job, risk the fallout for his family when he lost his job, risk not being able to work in the area again - he said they take this stuff pretty seriously.

Anyways - risk all that for some kicks. The market for "selling" a photo like that would have been months ago - not days before an announcement or this close to release - if it is gonna be released soon. Also felt that what anyone would make from that photo - given the lack of detail and other data(side view/rear view etc) would be very small and if release is near almost nil.

And he totally did not believe that was a camera strap in the corner. Said he's not a photshop guy - but no way did he believe that any body who managed to smuggle a camera in (or cell phone camera) would have time to leave the strap laying around and only take one shot.

He did state that the "feel" of this was very real. But it really bugged him about someone getting in a camera liek that.

So not sure he's gonna let me go play with his pics and post them on the internet:)

MS is set to release the new iPod killer on Monday the 27th, The day before Apple's special event.

In a related interview with Bill Gates on the 50 Billion Dollar investment with Sony to brand and co-create a new player, he said "We are confident that we have packed features into our new portable music device that Apple wouldn't ever think of putting in the iPod. You see, Apple has cornered itself into a design that is essentially flawed. The form factor of the iPod simply would not allow for a cassette tape interface. In addition to the great removable media, we also did a little copying of Apples wildly popular Shuffle, you notice that there is no display on our new player either."

I think this point has already been raised, but I don't remember seeing many responses.

The Chinese characters (what do they mean anyway?) Could they have been drawn onto the photo on the computer, just like the scribble over the date/time stamp? They could suggest that the image is meant to be viewed in portrait. The fact they fit over the tape could be co-incidence. The top and bottom distance (see yellow arrows in my illustration) are almost perfectly equal, suggesting the text could have been digitally placed centrally.

Might explain why they look a bit unnatural/simplified/drawn by a monkey/similar to a type face. Just a thought anyway.

EDIT: included examples. Yep i've lost the plot haven't I :|
EDIT 2: I've really got my head in a muddle and realised that the Chinese symbols have been established to mean THIS SIDE not THIS WAY. It is at this point I'm going to step away from the computer.

Surely its a just a reminder about which side up this thing plugs in....

The layout of the bars doesn't match any standard set of bars, the number of colors isn't right, and the colors are way off from how they're supposed to look. For example, the blue on the right is supposed to be dark blue, instead it's almost the same as the light blue on the left. Why would Apple use a corrupted version of a standard calibration image?

While I have no idea if this picture is real, the test pattern could simply be one of many manufacturing tests. In a past life I was involved with creating manufacturing tests for eBooks and a color test was definitely one of the tests. It isn't necessarily for testing the quality of the screen. Just that the screen works. The person who coded the test may have no idea how a real calibration test is supposed to look. They probably just whipped off a quick-and-dirty color bar pattern that looked something like what they remembered from seeing one on TV. That's what I would have done.

A little OT (sorry), but since we may be nearing the release of another iPod...has anyone ever gone back and read the forum posts when the iPod was first released? Man, those people were pissy. If only they had known what the iPod would do for Apple...

Its Real!

Ya know how Apple loves to put hidden messages in their products... well I think I found a doozie!

After reading all the posts, it got me thinking... what are those strange gray bars on the top. They have to mean something. So, being a photoshop wizard myself, I zoomed up - like 400% and noticed a strange pattern. I then increased the contrast and applied a Facet filter and low and behold... look what I found. If you look closely, and kinda squint... you may see his Steveness himself, giving his personal opinion on the so called innovator. Amazing!

WOW, just Imagine what would happen if we were in that thread. People would be brutally murdered. God, everyone was sooo....bitchy! I wanna talk to those people now and see how Apple fed their words all back to them! For some reason, I feel like that was 20 years ago...it was in 2001! But damn, 2001 is old already. Its 2006...soo weird.

1,000th post?!?!?

so yeah, it's not quite a billion, but whoever hits the millenia mark should win a customized and personalized fake video ipod leak picture, direct from macrumors, to be displayed on macrumors's homepage as a testament to how friggin long and asinine this thread has become

The only thing that make that idea better is if the 1,000th post is regarding the meaning of the chinese characters.

How much would you pay.

I know this isn't the device in question but just imagine:

It is the size of an ipod video with a 100G harddrive with intel xscale processor, OSX mobile, full pda and ipod music / video functions. 640 x 480 OLED touch screen. It has integrated wifi and bluetooth headset for VOIP. It also has media extender / front row capabilities.

A device like this would be extremely complicated and expensive but is within the reach of current cutting edge technology.

My credit card would come out for no more than $2299.

What would it cost to make such a device and what would you pay?

I would imagine a device like that...could be manufactured for under $350 - feasability in the American market of bluetooth/VOIP being something I 'm not sure would be worth putting in today...but assuming "smart phone" type technology - very doable at the $350 cost mark. Single distributor(Apple lets say) would lead to a retail of $1150 or so.

A bit expensive for the target market.

I agree if the target market is ipod users. We already have a video ipod for them.

Every gadget freak in the world is dieing for a "fullscreen" device. There is something so cool about having the most technological piece of hardware available with no wasted real estate.

I personally think this leaked photo is a fake, but as badly as people want it to be true (widescreen video ipod, not my imaginary pocketable super-everything-computer) that a similiar version has to be in the works.

For a widescreen 80G video ipod I'd pay no more than $449.

Yeah I noticed that as well, I think I put it on another post but not with so much detail...... kind of strange though

EDIT: What I mean to say is that the Colour and B&W bars give off a very strange pattern that isn't really consistant with OLED or LCD. It's more consist from using the Clone Tool in Gimp or Photoshop.

Apple says fun new products.....

Nothing says fun like Porn, Alcohol and maybe a new iPod of some kind ;)

Sounds like a good way to spend a late night waiting up for an event. I'm saving this bottle of red wine I've got for Tuesday night so I don't stay up too late. Bloody 4am start time, who decided to hold this event in America I'll never know...

cant seem to remember... but while im replying ... do you have any idea what the chinese characters on the cord for the new video ipod pic translate to? :D

I've already told everyone this, they are Egyptian Hieroglyphics that read "iPharaoh - 10,000 songs in the pocket of Ra"
