Uhh, that photo could very well be fake. Even if it were real, the thickness of the plastic may turn out different, depending on when it's released. And more scratch-resistant would be better than thicker plastic of a scratchable nature.

my point is simply that, the plastic on the ipod seems the sam if not similar to that if the 1&2 Gen iPods

No, it wouldn't suck. I don't care to much for this current mock-up of the iPod video. I also don't think it is time to release a 6th generation iPod. Not unless they could offer a really good design, better battery life, and additions to the interface. How about adding .ogg to the firmware while they are at it?

We dont really know. It could be anything, however I have a strong feeling it will be a touch screen device of some sort, so an iPod could be in there.

I would say IF it's real it definitely IS a new iPod, probably added on the high end or replacing the 60.

It seems to have nearly identical dimensions and bezel margin to the 5G iPod, as though they were designed around the same time (as some old rumors suggest--take with salt). Or, of course, as if this is a fake BASED on the 5G

In any case it's on the small side, which makes it iPod-like and not Mac-like.

Apple does seem to be getting serious about SOME kind of tablet computing (possibly in a way we've never thought of), but I don't expect any kind of touch or tablet Mac any time soon--because Apple JUST now hired someone for tablet computing. Now, maybe that person(s) was hired to get started on "version 2" and I would LOVE to see "version 1" soon, but I don't feel hopeful.

Plus, a touch-based iPod would make a nice toe in the water for potential Mac-based touch products being considered. (Just like the 5G iPod might have been a toe in the water for an all-screen video-centric iPod. Not that all-screen HAS to take the focus off of music.)

Well, you see, it's not whether or not you have doubt that determines what Jobs releases. Nice try, but anyone who wants to spend wisely should wait for more substantial info, not just rumors, which, in turn, is wise. Duh.

If Jobs releases a 6G, great; hopefully it'll be better than the hoax. If he doesn't, he might say when he plans to, which could very well be April 1. Or, you could be left hanging. But, to continue my role as Captain Obvious, if you care so much about having a product that is not outdated for the longest possible time, you should buy when the 6G is released, since the 5G's been out a few days. Lol. Seriously, consider the contradiction - "hey guys, should I wait and buy the new one when it comes out, or won't I be able to wait until it comes out and the one I bought cuz I couldn't wait is too old?" Buy when it's a good product that satisfies you, so that when something better inevitably comes out, you're still satisfied with what you've got.

Just because some photo goes around on the net doesn't mean we know the limits and range of what Apple might introduce Tuesday, or April 1, or ....

You're right in the sense that the photo is likely not authentic and even if it were (in which case Apple would not have sat on its hands unless they've hired me to convince you it's fake), would not represent a guarantee that you can buy one Tuesday, this week, or ever. These are RUMORS. Words like "certainly" apply to FACTS, unless used by the overly-certain (biased people with a strong belief system). Not to say that belief and faith are bad. Or that annoying over-certain people are bad. Or that there isn't any certainty in the world. Just not considering a hoax photo.

I do not think that the first image with the test pattern is real. First of all, not even looking at how the photo was taken/if its done in photoshop, I wondered that there would never be that sort of test colour pattern on an ipod/apple device. Even if Apple did have a test colour pattern, the person in China who took the picture wouldn't even have access to the test pattern. I think it is photoshopped. I mean come on. If you zoom in on the top left corner of the supposed "ipod", you see that part of the black is overlapping the frame of the "ipod". I mean you can't push and pull at the same time and say "OOO that part of the picture was photoshopped but the rest of the picture is of the new ipod." There was a second pic posted on Macshrine tha looked more like the new ipod. It didn't look photoshopped and it looked like the real deal. Someone then "proved it to be fake". There was also a third and fourth picture posted on these forums that look real (Can someone give me the URL/ what site they were from?).

I am not saying that Apple won't release a 3.5 inch screen with built in touch sensors, but I am merely saying that the "iPod" with the test pattern is not real. Apple may release the new ipod that looks familiar to the ipod with the test pattern image. I think that someone made that image to look like what he thought the iPod might be. If it turns out that the new iPod is like the test pattern image one, then people will be saying how it was infact a real ipod. The fact is that it was photoshopped, and you can't say it was a little photoshopped but the rest of the image is real (that's like saying 'a little pregnant', I reckon).

If what we are seeing here will be the answer to a new iPod, if I were you I would order me a 5th generation iPod Video. Unless you want a full screen Ipod that you willhave to hold on the sides and fear dropping it and have to worry about the screen getting dirty and all marked up. It may look nifty, but it won't after the first week or so you have it.

Well, "little" is a relative term. A normal wife with the normal couple's normal first would be a little pregnant compared to some hugely pregnant, fertility-pill-filled bubble about to explode with 17 kids. I mean, sure, you're either pregnant or you're not, but colloquially, English is a bloody mess.

In the same sense, this photo might turn out to be any number of things.... A real iPod made to look fake, a hoax, a hoax that turned out to be close to the real deal, a hoax that a rival company copies in its product (lol), a true hoax of a fake iPod, a false real photo of a slightly fake-looking real iPod, etc. Some of those are messed up. that's why I am betting on hoax. But it's not necessarily slanderous, and how false could it be? There probably will be a 6G with a big screen, and that's about all the photo claims, if you ask me.

The 1's and 0's don't bother me as long as they stay in line. What bothers me is that it is some inexplicable collage (guy's head, picture of train tracks, powermac all with different lighting) that would never be an Apple ad with the quality of the 24 screenshot (was 24 even in iTMS? I don't think so...). and again, so what if it were real? What does this reveal?

Towel? Oh, ok i went back and read that. Sure, but look at the rim of the "iPod" - it is made to look as though shining with the same poopy brown. Really, that just looks too wrong to be an iPod pic. What kind of message is this towel or collage saying anyway?

EDIT : saw previous post. All clear. Conglomerate of powermac, 24 dvd cover, and fake ipod, all covered with a brown layer in PS or something? Still, this shows 24 fan spirit, not much else.

That isn't a G5, look at the bottom of it. There is no leg stand thing. Also since when are G5's only a couple inches across? Where is the power button, usb port, firewire port and headphone jack?

Macworld really let me know. The rumor sites had no leaked images and nothing too awesome was released.

Now having all this talk of a tablet and video iPods has made everything exciting, this whole iPod/tablet business takes me back to the iMac Flat Screen "leaks" days.
