"iPod3,1" References in iPhone OS 3.0 Point to iPod Touch Refresh

"The news is unsurprising, as Apple appears to be following a yearly cycle of product refreshes in recent years, and with both the first- and second-generation iPod touch models having seen September release dates, the release of a revised "iPod3,1" iPod touch in September is a reasonable expectation."
Of course, you guys just got done writing an article on Apple possibly giving out erroneous info about upcoming products.

I'm not issuing the fact that people sometimes miss the upgrades ipods have, but the little upgrades they add just to keep their loyal dogs at their feet.
+1 to that and a built in microphone just for the hell of it
If you're going to go that far why don't you just add a 3g card in there as well. That way we don't need a cell plan.
Why not go all the way:
iPhone - cell - sms = iPod touch
Same processor, same memory config etc. Even have the Phone app, so other softphone vendors can plug in their soft phone behind it.
$249 - with camera, 16G
$299 - with camera, 32G
$349 - with camera, GPS, compass, 16G
$399 - with camera, GPS, compass, 32G
That will be a palatable price spectrum for the market. Or drop the whole thing down by $50.00 . I am not sure if Apple will make any money at these price levels.

The past two generations, the iPod touch has always been slightly faster and better optimized for gaming than the iPhone. I really hope 3,1 follows the same pattern...I'm selling my 2G and grabbing the third gen immediately.

The iPod touch already has a flush headphone jack right?
I don't think so. Bought one a few months ago - not flush. Got a free one with recent MBP purchase ... not flush. I know they adjusted the iPhone's jack for the 3G last year, but the iPod Touch jacks I've seen do not look like those. <<shrug>>
Maybe my idea of flush is different than everyone else's? Maybe I'm just confused?
So long as they up it to be 100% compatible with iPhone apps, minus the phone part, I'd be happy. And of course 64gb...

my girlfriend's iPod Touch 2G sure does...
if the iPod touch had the speed of the 3Gs and GPS it would be a force to be reckoned with.
if they added a mic - voice control, and if they added a camera it would outsell any device. especially if they kept the same price tags
Aye, a killer product that'd be. The sooner Apple shove 64gb in, the more likely the '10 iPhone will be 64gb, something I'll definitely updgrade to from my 3G.
It will most likely have the compass because I can see many games using it.

I dont think there will be a built in mic if theres anything it will be in the headphones.+1 to that and a built in microphone just for the hell of it

i hope they put that case that everyone thought was going to be on the iphone 3gs on the now touch. the metal case is terrible and so scratch prone.

My wifes Garmin Nuvi doesn't have a data connection and it is plenty useful
Exactly.
I would say GPS that is dependent on a data connection isn't that useful.
