iPods in Unreleased Colors Spotted in iTunes 12.2

This. We have 2 (almost 3) teens. They do not have phones, nor do they care about not having phones. They have iPad Minis and 4th gen iPods which they use for music, email, school, games, texting family, etc. We have MANY friends with kids around the same age who prefer they not have phones yet. New iPods will be a big hit with our family and many others we know.

Kids. I'm not getting my kids phones for a long time.

All window dressing. Hopefully the nano's price drops and the touch gets a new processor. If so, I would be interested in the latter. And it seems a bit lazy of Apple not to get rid of the glossy, iOS-6 like interface on the nano.

Lazy? Or putting their finite resources attention on more important and profitable tasks?

There's no Loop attachment on that iPod Touch, either.

Good catch! Though when they killed the 4th gen and made the one color entry level iPod touch, it didn't have the loop, either.

disappointed that Apple Music won't sync with Non iOS devices. My Ipod Classic that i use for the car and the shuffle for running/gym are basically locked out. rethinking my subscription to Apple Music. Unless I add music to 'My Songs' in Itunes and then download and remove the DRM (I'm sure a tool to remove from Apple Music is coming) from the songs and then import back into my itunes library. shrugs. so complicated. Wish Apple would just update the Firmware on the shuffle and nano (and the classic!) so we can listen to our subscribed music on these device's.

I'll speak for myself and say we have older iPhones we load with PAYG SIM cards if our kids travel w/out us. They can call and text (SMS only). They have iPad Minis and iPods for everything else, but they simply don't need to be connected all the time. They don't need (nor do they want) to be glued to Snapchat, Instagram, (insert long list of apps for wasting time here).

It's not for everyone. Some (many) parents clearly feel the need to allow their kids to be tethered to the Internet and friends on a semi-permanent basis. And some parents simply don't care. As any parent knows, it's a broad spectrum.

Lastly, while not supplying our kids with phones is not a function of affordability for us, we will require them to pay for their own plans when they do get phones, so they can make a choice about whether or not they want them when the money comes out of their own pocket.

I'm sure we sound Amish to many ;).

What a beautiful iPod touch color!

The iPod touch wallpaper seems to suggest that we will see these iPods released before iOS 9. Makes me wonder why they didn't just release them last September.

Maybe they're just color updates, since the camera seems to be the same size as before (same aperture, probably same 5MP, still no dual-tone flash).

Also, why no Touch ID??? I hope they're not holding that feature back!

Hopefully we will see a 128gb Touch along with the 6s! I just wonder if they will keep the smaller screen size if they do release a new Touch, or if they will go to the 6 size.

This makes the rumor of a Sixth Generation iPod Touch in the fall even more. I bet it'll have Apple Watch integration.

Shuffle: $50 to play music.
Nano: $100 upgrade to view pictures and videos on crappy screen with crappy storage.
Touch: $50 upgrade to get a much better screen, a web browser, and the entire freaking app store.

I don't understand the point of the Nano existing. Who is buying it? Is it a mistake that they're buying it? (IE, do they think it's just a cheaper iPod Touch?)

I've used one for several years for running. Essentially for 2 reasons - it's very small and it has Bluetooth. Having said that, it's coming up on 3 years old and it feels like an awkward device. If they keep non iOS iPods around they should just merge the shuffle and nano.

Hopefully it's only a silent update this summer for the new colors, and they leave the iPod Touch with an A5.

Hmm. I'm glade to see the iPod (supposedly) getting some love. The iPod was my gateway into Apple's ecosystem (5th Gen Nano).

I'd love to see an updated nano with either a lower price or more storage for the current price. It's great to have a music-only device, especially when working out or something.

I think the shuffles and nanos have already had their last updates (unless you consider adding a new color to be an update). Maybe just update the firmware for compatibility with Apple Music if necessary. They'll upgrade the processor and camera in the iPod Touches to keep it up to date. But otherwise, the iPods are basically just a "hobby" for Apple now.

If they dropped the price of the nano to something like $99, or even $79, I think its existence could be justified.

This iPod touch will probably be like an iPad Mini 2. The current one is like an iPad Mini 1, after all. Sadly, this probably means no changes in cameras or Touch ID.

They probably didn't include Touch ID so that they wouldn't have to include the special chip for online Apple Pay like the iPad Mini 3.

the current nano is hideous, my favorite is 4th gen

I couldn't agree more.

That iOS6-style theme on the nano is a massive wart in Apple's otherwise sleek design language. They could have updated that. Even the nano itself, the industrial design of it, is a mess. Bring back the click wheel...
