That iOS6-style theme on the nano is a massive wart in Apple's otherwise sleek design language. They could have updated that. Even the nano itself, the industrial design of it, is a mess. Bring back the click wheel...
I agree, they should have updated the icons. Perfect opportunity to do so.

I dig the blue. Too bad I have no use at all for an iPod. lol. Maybe they'll add these colors to iPhones.

disappointed that Apple Music won't sync with Non iOS devices. My Ipod Classic that i use for the car and the shuffle for running/gym are basically locked out. rethinking my subscription to Apple Music. Unless I add music to 'My Songs' in Itunes and then download and remove the DRM (I'm sure a tool to remove from Apple Music is coming) from the songs and then import back into my itunes library. shrugs. so complicated. Wish Apple would just update the Firmware on the shuffle and nano (and the classic!) so we can listen to our subscribed music on these device's.
You are right.
I do miss that old iPod classic, though. That iPod classic should be the very first Apple product I was using. The storage space was just awesome. I used it to store some other files, featuring this iPod classic as an ultra (at that time) portable HDD.
I now use a 128GB iPhone 6 Plus, with far better spec, and far better functionality. But sometimes I just want to return to the start point of a thing, such as music. iPod classic is just such device, perfectly fitting our need to Just listening to music, and do nothing else.

There is no Touch ID on the iPod touch... Might not be an entirely new model.
Just a new color perhaps.
Yes they did "update" the Touch once with just new colors before. I'm pretty much over the Touch now and would rather get a new iPad mini gen4 but if they upgraded the Touch substantially with touch ID and a new processor I would give it a serious look but then again I doubt that will happen.

Shuffle: $50 to play music.
Nano: $100 upgrade to view pictures and videos on crappy screen with crappy storage.
Touch: $50 upgrade to get a much better screen, a web browser, and the entire freaking app store.

I don't understand the point of the Nano existing. Who is buying it? Is it a mistake that they're buying it? (IE, do they think it's just a cheaper iPod Touch?)

I think it's the right balance of portability and usability for some people. When it comes to music playback. :)

Holy crap they really need to update the iPod Touch line. I know too many people who want an iPod to be in the iOS ecosystem, but don't want or can't afford a smartphone. They want a portable "phone like" device like the iPod, and don't want an iPad mini. They are stuck with this really old, aging device that Apple just won't update. It's annoying watchi them suffer through that.

To be honest I thought they would get rid of the iPod touch. I mean what the point if you have a iPhone. I guess for kids who want a iPod and are not old enough for a phone its a pretty cool device. They just don't seem to sell that many.

Good. The pastels were nauseating. The only color that looked good was the Red.

I liked them all, but I like that too.

Wish they'd do the phones in nice colours too (my favourite iPhone design is the 5C, I just wish that design was available with modern hardware).

Incidentally, anyone else think the nice colours of the 5Cs would better suite a white panel, rather than a black one? I do, and I'd also prefer the black front panel on the silver aluminium. Wouldn't it be great if Apple did a pick'n'mix?

Do people still use iPods?
We have one for my son because it's more easily dropped into his diaper bag than his iGuy-clad iPad, but given Apple's inattention to this product for several years I'll be surprised if it gets a significant update before deletion.

This. We have 2 (almost 3) teens. They do not have phones, nor do they care about not having phones.
Yeah, I think a phone is becoming less of a thing for young teens because:
  • Parents often ask the teen to contribute to the monthly cost. I know I do.
  • Teens do 99% of their peer communication via apps. Only us old dinosaur parents actually "talk" on the phone or send "texts" anymore. Indeed, having an iPod touch that doesn't support incoming messages from parents might even be preferred! :)

When I was a teenager, I preferred using phone, whether iPhone or not. I just love old but solid way to communicate. :)

I use app, but I use safari quite a lot.

I just purchased a Garmin fenix 3 for my training companion. I can see myself purchasing a shuffle at some point in the future if I want to listen to music.
