With the recently announced ceasefire let’s take stock of where we currently are.

Did the Iranian government fall?
No. Current leadership no doubt hates the US more than ever.

Did the US remove uranium from Iran?
No.

Did the US setback the Iranian nuclear program?
Who knows? Probably not, because according to trump it was already setback decades. And now Iran will be more motivated than ever to obtain nuclear weapons. Not forgetting that Iran was not developing under the JCPOA before trump torpedoed it.

Did the US bring relief to the people of Iran?
No. The destruction of Iranian infrastructure will only impoverish the country further.

Did the US cause a global economic shock?
Yes.

Did the US indirectly cause considerable infrastructure damage to the Middle East, which will take many months or years to recover?
Yes.

Did the US show that their military is fallible?
Yes. But most rational people already knew that.

Did the US kill thousands of innocent people including a school full of little girls?
Yes.

Did the US show that Iran can control the Straits of Hormuz?
Yes.

So that looks like it’s a whole lot of big ‘L’s for the US.
Did anyone forget about the Trump-Epstein files?
No.

I can’t imagine that anyone is taking that plan seriously. I definitely wouldn’t invest my money in building a hotel amidst the world’s biggest hornet nest of terrorists, would you?

Oh you don’t invest your own money. You invest the Saudi’s money that they give you in exchange for invading Iran. Dead US service
members and billions in US taxpayer dollars are just the cost of a new golf course and hotel.

Just look at the entitlement in that post!

No population anywhere in the world has ever voluntarily agreed to having their land stolen and being removed from their homes.

Many right-wing and centrist Europeans (both white and Jewish) regard non-Europeans as less human than themselves, and believe non-Europeans have a moral obligation to behave as if they are inferior to Europeans, and thus have a moral obligation to allow their land to be stolen by Europeans and to be ethnically cleansed by Europeans. This had happened on numerous lands on every non-European continent except Antarctica.
Palestine was not a country. The land belonged to Turkey and then it belonged to Britain. You know this.

Jews lived in Palestine in the 1800’s. You also know this.

So why do you insist that land was “stolen,” but that term only applies to Arabs and not to Jews?

While you’re at it, can you explain why Constantinople is called Istanbul? Serious question.

India ceded land to create Bangladesh and Pakistan. Yugoslavia was broken into several nations, after a long war. I already gave you many other examples, but you seem to think “theft” only happened to the Palestinians. Such situations have occurred around the world, especially throughout Europe and Africa.

The TACO was amazing tonight, the likes of which the world has never seen!

That should be enough time to invoke the 25th, or impeach before he does any more serious damage.

We can't afford to wait two more years until the next Election Day to get him out, the guy is mentally and physically unwell.
Yeah. If you think about any other country that is actually run by adults, then they would be making moves to remove somebody that was so unhinged.

Only the Cabinet can invoke the 25th Amendment. I think the only scenario under which Trump’s cabinet does that would be if he ordered a nuclear strike on Iran.

So he can only be removed by impeachment, which would require a 2/3 majority vote in the U.S. Senate. Under the best possible case scenario of Democrat victory in the midterms, the Dems still won’t get 66 Senators.

The U.S. Senate has 53 Republicans and 47 Democrats (including two independents). There are 35 seats up in 2026 - including special elections in Florida and Ohio - of which 22 are held by Republicans. Democrats can retake control with a net gain of four seats, but getting to 66 would require a net gain of 19 Senate seats, which is simply impossible.

Jews and Arabs lived in Palestine for a very long time; records go back at least into the 1850’s. Mark Twain even visited Jerusalem and wrote about it and about the Jews and Arabs he encountered.
Regardless of viewpoint, calling the 1850’s “a very long time ago” in the context of Israel, and calling out Mark Twain, is hilarious. American arrogance at it’s finest.

Well, TACO achieved something GREAT, that is, the world had stopped believing in anything the US would ever say, or do. TACO also proved that the American arms are 2nd class or even worse, that any country in the world would think twice (or thrice) before even deciding buy an American (war) plane, or a missile system, or even small arms.

Then show us some documented history of who lived in the region in… the early 1800’s? The 1700’s? Is there any such historical record? No, there isn’t.

I don’t understand the concept that somehow Arabs are “indigenous” to the Middle East and Jews are not. Or that Arabs are “indigenous” to Palestine and Jews are not. It is ridiculous.

Even more ridiculous: The dozen or so Arab nations that forcibly expelled over 800,000 Jews get a pass, but Israel is held us as the super-monster because Palestinians fled their homes from a war that THE ARABS STARTED. Can’t you see the pure hypocrisy of this?

Fair. 😂

I just see a lot of cynical folks who want war with Iran deploying the TACO stuff lately. Neocon Never Trumpers, Chuck Schumer, etc.
I'm European and I most certainly don't want war with Iran and never did.

I’ll try not to be too much of a wet blanket. It is pretty funny the oaf bumbled his way into this mess.
No, it's not funny; actually, it's appalling, grotesque, and beggars belief.

However, I am not sure that the US understands quite how far its stock - not to mention its credibility, and reputation for reliability and trustworthiness, - has fallen in recent months, how much it is disliked and despised, and how little it is respected, that is, genuinely respected, not "respected" in terms a mafia hoodlum would understand.

This has nothing to do with so-called TACO optics, but has everything to do with how disgracefully it now conducts itself on the world stage.

The TACO moment won't last long. No US warship will be allowed through the Straits of Hormuz. The Houthis (Jemen) had not agreed to anything, so the Red Sea is off limits for US (NATO, Israel) ships of any kind through Bab-el-Mandeb. The US 5th fleet will never be allowed back in the Persian Gulf, or anywhere near the Iranian coastline--at the moment more than 1100kms distance. None of the UK, NATO, Israeli ships or connected ships will be allowed through, toll or nor toll. The TACO man, actually achieved a lot!

What the effing uck are you talking about? The Ottoman Empire kept records meticulously. In the 1700’s the area was mostly Muslim. This is common knowledge - do I really need to google sources for you? History started before Mark Twain you know.

Edit: I went and googled it for you anyway, although I will admit that I did not read the source, but am counting on an AI summary:

Perhaps I’m tainted by growing up in a country with a functional education system.

Claiming no historical records exist from the 1700’s is mindblowing, and I have to revert to my previous comment about American arrogance.
I don’t understand the concept that somehow Arabs are “indigenous” to the Middle East and Jews are not. Or that Arabs are “indigenous” to Palestine and Jews are not. It is ridiculous.
I never claimed that. I specifically stated that this conflict will never be resolved, because the claims to the area goes back thousands of years. As long as people make claims about the land based on something written in two thousand year old books, you will never resolve it. I don’t make claims about who should own the land. My claim is: Both sides are acting horrendously, and it will take both sides to fix it. One side acting like they are the good guys and the others are the bad guys will not fix anything.

Both sides can claim the land, based on how long you go back. I’m just saying that going back 150 years and basing your viewpoint on that is indegenious when the conflict spans thousands.
Even more ridiculous: The dozen or so Arab nations that forcibly expelled over 800,000 Jews get a pass, but Israel is held us as the super-monster because Palestinians fled their homes from a war that THE ARABS STARTED. Can’t you see the pure hypocrisy of this?
I did not give anyone a pass. I stated several times that a conflict can have two bad actors. The correct response to that, as a civilized nation, is not to also become bad. It is to raise the flag of good even higher. Which is NOT what the US has been doing, by openly killing 5000+ people to earn money on oil.

Fact: Jews has been a majority in Israel since WW2. Before that, you need to go back 2000 years to see Jews as a majority. Before that, Jews was a majority as far back as history shows.

I’m not the arbiter of which point in history determines ownership. But them are facts.

The conflict exists because we cannot agree on whether the land was stolen from someone 78 or 1956 years ago. I personally don’t think I need to take side.

Here’s something interesting for you: The reports about what is in the ten-point peace plan vary in significant ways, depending on who does the reporting. The list has not been officially made public by either party. Here is the typical list in the western press:

  1. No more attacks on Iran
Iran wants a firm guarantee that the US and its allies will stop all strikes permanently. Tehran is not asking for just a temporary pause but a lasting end to the conflict.
  2. Release of Iranian assets
All Iranian assets frozen abroad must be returned as part of the agreement.
  3. Stop Israeli strikes in Lebanon
Iran demands an end to attacks in Lebanon, where Israel has been targeting Hezbollah.
  4. Lift all US sanctions
Tehran wants all American sanctions removed, as they have long harmed Iran’s economy.
  5. No more attacks on Iran’s allies
Iran insists that its allied groups across the region must be left alone under any broader peace deal.
  6. Safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz
Iran says it is ready to allow ships to pass through this vital global oil route safely.
  7. Fee per ship
Each ship passing through the Strait would need to pay a fee of around $2 million.
  8. Sharing revenue with Oman
The money collected from transit fees would be split with Oman, which sits across the Strait. Tehran would also set up a proper system to ensure the safe passage of ships.
  9. Binding UN Security Council resolution
Iran wants all agreements formalised through a binding resolution at the UN Security Council.
  10. Use fees to rebuild
Rather than asking for direct compensation, Iran plans to use the collected fees to rebuild infrastructure damaged during the conflict.

However, here is the list as reported by Iranian media:

  • Non-aggression pact between the US and Iran
  • Continuation of Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz
  • Recognition of Iran’s nuclear enrichment rights
  • Lifting of all primary US sanctions
  • Lifting of all secondary sanctions affecting third-party countries
  • Termination of all UN Security Council resolutions against Iran
  • Termination of all International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board resolutions
  • Payment of compensation to Iran for damages
  • Withdrawal of US combat forces from the region
  • Cessation of war across all fronts, including conflicts involving Iran-backed groups such as Hezbollah in Lebanon
  • Ceasefire linked to Hormuz reopening

Note especially the discrepancy about the Iranian nuclear program.

In any case, I challenge anyone to explain how either of these lists puts the US in a better position than it was in before the attacks.

As long as the 25th amendment involves making JD Vance president, that plan is neither realistic nor desirable.
Well, I was hoping he'd have a spine to do something about it. He seemed quite iffy on the war on Iran and distancing himself from being involved in it.

He sucks, but at least he's not a psych ward patient doing the US destruction speedrun like Trump. The lesser evil option, I guess. And we got midterms too! With the way everything is going, there's a really good chance Democrats will take back both chambers.

Yeah, I should've added those catches. I was hoping Vance and his cabinet would finally grow a spine and do something about it. Guess not.

If we can't get him out of there, then Democrats taking back control of both chambers by midterms is desirable. Even if they can't impeach him after that, they at least can put a guard rail against Trump having absolute power.

In any case, I challenge anyone to explain how either of these lists puts the US in a better position than it was in before the attacks.
Trump somehow tries to spin this as a win. Absolute mental, lives lost and destruction for nothing. Hoping the ceasefire turns permanent with some kind of non-aggression pact. The damage is done and the US is in no position to negotiate mostly into their terms.

Not too long ago, the Iranian regime was in turmoil because of the massive protests by their fed-up population. But because Trump can't help himself, it cemented the regime's position as a legitimate power.

If only it was for “nothing”. Seems like the world including US will come out worse.

Didn’t even consider that angle, you are spot on.

Didn't you read not so long ago, Trump said that he had sent arms to the so-called protesters through the Kurds? He wanted a regime change, and he got it, but not in Iran, but in the US, and in the Gulf states. The same people might be there, in those countries (US, Gulf states), but the power had changed. Just imagine the main point, Withdrawal of US combat forces from the region? That region is not only the Gulf states, but also Israel.
