sure but with the original apple cases the bottom are exposed... and so i see the steel frame.. but this is my point of view :)
I use the silicone case for my pro max for work and going out and spigen for gym.

I like seeing the silver at the bottom of the phone and it feels good when using it and doesn’t make the phone seem too big.

Just buy the phone that you want if you can afford it. You really won’t care about the $300 afterwards.

I purchased the pro due to the smaller size coming from an 8plus. I like the one handed use a little more, but realistically I think most people would probably be happy with either phone.

If you’re the type of person like me who puts their phone in a case, that detail is lost.

I have the Spigen Wallet S which leaves large areas of the device exposed when unfolded, both the top and bottom along with all the buttons and the mute switch. It’s all good though because well it’s a wallet case so it’s still well protected.

Honestly the feeling of the stainless steel is awesome, you can’t beat it. It makes it feel like a real premium luxury device.

It’s subjective though isn’t it? I really like aluminium too and when my phone is completely covered by a full case I’m not personally bother if the edges are shiny or not. Whatever floats our boats eh?

For me the iPhone 11 Pro has two advantages: a smaller size and the telephoto lens. In the end though it wasn’t worth the extra money for me. I always buy my phones outright and 64GB is too small for my use, so going from a 128Gb iPhone 11 to a 256Gb iPhone 11 Pro is a $400 increase. This isn’t worth it to me. Even though I could afford it I just didn’t feel like paying over $1,100 for a iPhone so I got a regular 11. It’s a little bigger than I like (I upgraded from a 7), but I have no regrets and don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything and it is powerful enough that it should last me three or four years.

Same. Same screen size in a smaller to handle form factor.

So comparing both as the 64gb models, is the 11 Pro (not the Pro Max) worth the extra $300 vs the "regular" 11?

Benefits of 11:
  • Cheaper
  • ~1 Hour Better Battery Life
Benefits of 11 Pro:
  • Sharper OLED Screen
  • Adds Telephoto Camera
  • Slightly Smaller and Lighter in Hand
  • Slightly Better Water Resistance
  • Comes With 18W Adapter

In my case, I'm mad at Apple. My X indicates service battery. But the Apple store can't replace the battery. The screw (installed at factory) is apparently stripped. I didn't want to spend over $500 for a refurbished unit that doesn't fully support my carrier anyway.

And since this permanently reduced the value of my phone (can't hand it down when I upgraded in 2020 or 2021), I decided to get a new phone now while I can still trade in my X for $400. So I went with the 11, and I didn't want to spend the extra money on the Pro since I may want the 5G model.

I can’t use the Apple cases as they don’t seem to offer enough protection for my uses. I drop my iPhone on average once a day and my kids more than that so I need a full case.

I worry about the kids that you drop more often than once a day :(

The pro's storage isn't granular enough. 64GB isn't enough. But I only use about 1/2 of the storage in my X.

You kind of sound like you already made up your mind in this. I had the iPhone XS 256 GB last year. I traded it in for the iPhone 11. There is literally nothing I am missing from my old phone. In fact you can save more like I did by going with the 128 GB rather than 256 GB. I thought I would miss the zoom lens most, I don't, it was always only 2X zoom anyway. The OLED screen is terrific but I don't miss it, the blacks are inkier, but the black on the 11 is also really good in day to day app use, I really can't tell the difference.

For me, the extra $400 (64 GB isn't big enough for me but 128 GB is), wasn't and isn't worth the difference in price. Could that change next year? Sure, but for right now I love what I have.

Broke AF college student here. Irrationally leased The iPhone 11 Pro Max 256gb. I wish I traded in my previous model for a 256GB iPhone 11, I would have saved like $400 lol. Oh well, it’s a reminder now to be more responsible with my money.

Just worth pointing out though it may not matter to most people, but the smaller 11 pro doesn't do landscape home screen/ apps like standard 11 or 11 pro max.

Well, since I was able to take advantage of the recent Costco trade-in promo to greatly reduce the cost, I got the 11 Pro as a birthday gift to myself. I do like it more in my hand than the regular 11. But is it worth the extra $300 regular cost? Definitely not. Worth the extra ~$30 that I'll pay after the rebate? Yes. :)

Current polling (58 to 42% at the moment) shows support for both options, which is good news for Apple I suppose. I will probably upgrade my X to the 11 Pro because I’m a photographer and I’ve paid more than $300-400 for lenses. I like the flexibility of having more lens options and not just digital zoom/cropping.
I also prefer the 5.8 size vs the 6.1, although I’m sure I would get used to the size difference. I can go either way on the display type. I go back and forth between my iPhone X OLED and my iPad’s LCD all day long. Both are great displays. I’m sure I’d be happy with either iPhone, but I know there would be times when I would regret not having the third lens if I got the 11.

I wouldn't feel like a proper tech enthusiast with the iPhone Xr or 11.

I know... Shallow 😕

Nah. You’re not shallow, you just appreciate the heavier side of tech like the rest of us, otherwise you wouldn’t be on a site like this. I’m also an enthusiast, I like my Apple products, but I’m open to _all_ tech alike.

Considering a move from the XR (wife needs a new phone and she would happily take my xr so may pass it on) to an 11 or 11 pro max and want to understand the key differences other than the screen and the size. How much better is the pro max camera than the 11? What other noticeable upgrades would the layman find useful? Currently struggling to justify the cost differential.
