I think 3.9" the same as the Nokia n9 is the sweet spot. Bigger screen, same size phone as the iPhone. Best of all worlds.

I really like the 4.65" screen on the Galaxy Nexus. More like a 4.3" with the onscreen buttons, but leaves the ability for larger videos. I've actually been surprised at how long Apple has stuck with the physical home button.

let's dreaming a little.

which would u choose if apple release the next iphone with this option:

1. 3.5" for the 3.5" bandwagon retina display, maximum portability, same ol ****.

2. 4.3" same resolution 960x640 non retina but still quite sharp but with almost double battery life because of the bigger case.

i know my choice.

A larger screen would be nice but I would much much rather have a complete redesign of the phone itself. I really do miss the body of the 3GS. The smooth, rounded backside was a pleasure to hold.

Say a 4 inch to 4.3 inch screen with the 3GS body and you'd have a winner.

3.5" or no more iPhones will come to my signature.
Are you done with smartphones then? No one else has a decent smartphone that small. I guess it's back to flip-phones for you.

Wouldn't it be terrific if Apple surprised us all and introduced two new, redesigned phones this fall? A 3.5" (new design) and a 4.3" (new design). They certainly have the money and R&D to pull it off. Everyone would be happy and they'd own the market. (some say they already own the market, but this will not last without moving forward with the phone's design)

A 3.5" phone (again) would be very disappointing. With all the things Apple could do, but choosing to play it safe, and sticking with 3.5": What a waste of opportunity.

Personally I love the 4.3" size and form factor of my GSII. Some of the bigger phones I've tried definitely felt bulkier, but I'd have to try some of the newer ones to see as they've gotten thinner and the cases smaller comparitive for the screen size. I got the phone on a whim, just to try something different and never cared for Android before... but damn I love this phone. The screen sizes makes browsing and doing stuff 10x better, I never really had an issue with the 3.5" iPhone, until I had this phone and saw how much better it is.

Safe bet that Apple isn't going to produce a 4.5"+ phone, but I think 4-4.3 is realistic. But it all depends, some will like smaller screens and some larger, I've seen quite a few people (especially business) with Notes and though that's not for me and too big imo there's plenty of people who think opposite.

3.5" is good enough for me. If I need a bigger display, I go to my iPad. If I need even bigger, I go to my MBP. If I need even bigger, I go to my plasma in my room (42"). If I need even bigger, I go to my LCD (60") in my living room. If I need even bigger, I go to a movie theatre. If I need even bigger, I go to a psychiatry hospital.

I think 4.0 would be the sweet spot for me. 4.3 starts getting a little large, but I'd prefer that to 3.5.. I definitely would not want a 4.5"+ screen

I am getting older and losing my vision, so I'd like a bigger screen. For me it is not about fashion but the fundamentals of readability.

I to am having vision problems, but I now have glasses for correcting it, so I like to have a 4 incher iPhone in the very same form factor, thank you very much ;) :D

I'm sure I fall into this category as well. I like to hear women say that thing is huge, but not talking about my cell phone, really. :p

For my it's the maximum, my girlfriend has a 4.3 android device and where is nice the extra real state for web browsing and such, it's really uncomfortable to use single handed as I do with my iPhone all the time

I think it'll be in the ballpark of 4-4.3". It is very unlikely to be greater than that but its certain with the current competition Apple will not stay with 3.5"

Go big Apple! It will be good in the long run!

Apple needs to go to 4.3-4.5" with a new "retina" resolution. 4" isnt going to cut it anymore. Who wants to guess how long it will take for the Apple fanboys (iFans? me included) to start wanting a larger screen after the new supposed 4" iPhone is released? My guess? 1-3 months.

Android phones are now coming in at 4.3-5.3" If Apple makes a 4" iPhone then the wow factor will be gone soon and they will have yet another large group of people clamoring for an even larger one. Why not knock it out of the park right now with the next iPhone? Ensure that your phone will satisfy everyone For the long haul. The devs, the geeks, the average Joes and soccer moms etc.

My vote goes for a 4.3" Super IPS LCD2, Gorilla Glass 2, Retina display with around 342ppi (like the HTC Rezound).

Just perfect. :apple:

I'm not sure those who are afraid of a larger screen realize how minimal their concerns about it are. The two main things seem to be:

1) comfortably fitting in your pocket - Don't worry, it will fit fine. I felt very little difference between the iPhone 4S, the Nexus S, and the Galaxy Nexus in my usage.

2) The difficulty of using it with one hand - It's really not that difficult. Your thumb will be mere millimeters away from the top of the screen of any 4.3-4.6" device. At worse, it's slightly cumbersome, which is very far from impossible to use.

These two concerns are really the smallest things to worry about. Either case, the trade offs for the benefits of a larger screen (easier to read text, easier to type, better for browsing, games, pics/videos... etc.) are so worth it. It's really no surprise a lot of people want to go bigger.

Would love to see Apple go bigger, though I think they'll keep it pretty close to 4".

But that's where we differ...slightly cumbersome is too cumbersome. I want not cubmersome at all.
