Hope they make changes. The computer part of the iMac should be replaceable. If Apple really care about the resources used, not just say the words, they would do this.
The design of the M1 24" IMac used both a SOC Heat Sink to a FAN and a 2nd Fan was for cooling the small board. Separate intake/exhaust Left and Right on the bottom of the chin. Additionally the solid metal frame on the rear of the 24" iMac further dissipated the heat quickly. So updating the SoC for good thermals was very easy to implement with this design.Hope they make changes. The computer part of the iMac should be replaceable. If Apple really care about the resources used, not just say the words, they would do this.
Why?I can see the laptops getting yearly updates and the desktops moved to 2 year cycles
Surely that should be “softer shade of the same colour”?softer color of the same shade for the front
The Studio Display has an iPhone inside. Remove that and instead put in the guts of a real iMac and it wouldn't be so high.Going by the price of the Studio Display, a 27” iMac will start north of $2.5k, £2.5k.
Which would be insanely cheaper compared to what we have today if we wanted a similar setup:The only problem then becomes pricing. A 27" iMac would probably start at $1499 or $1599
Everyone seems to forget that the reason the Studio Display is so expensive it that it includes an iPhone inside that doesn't do much, other than force Apple to keep making firmware update to fix it's flaws.See iMac Pro "starting at" pricing from a few years ago. I genuinely will not be surprised at $3499.
But if we want to cast some marketing generosity(?), perhaps a minimal config that hardly anyone will want "starting at $2999". I have no imagination at all for an iMac "bigger" from modern Apple for less than that, given where Studio Display is now established and slugging in the guts of a MBpro + keyboard + mouse. If $2999, I'm guessing even keyboard & mouse may be accessories.
But we'll see. Maybe Apple will surprise us all.
Or perhaps it uses more power than people think? What’s been forgotten here is the fact that the external power brick is rated for far more wattage than the m1 demands. Perhaps there were plans to have M1 Pro as a top sku which fell by the wayside?
I've always envisioned that Apple could make the iMac so the display folds downward, so you could access the internals. Then design it so you could just upgrade the logic board.Hope they make changes. The computer part of the iMac should be replaceable. If Apple really care about the resources used, not just say the words, they would do this.
Yes, and that's exactly what they did, and called it Mac Studio and Apple Studio display 😉The computer part of the iMac should be replaceable.
I'd like to see a nice basic 27" or larger iMac. People who don't need all the performance but just want a bigger 5k+ display. IMO an iMac Pro makes very little sense with the Mac Studio and Mac Studio Display combo being a much better value than the iMac Pro ever was.
Bigger is not necessary matched to the preferred resolution the display should use as a Retina display.Apple knows better than you what people want. If you want a bigger screen, just buy a bigger monitor for your Mac mini.
I’d love a space grey iMac too! The silver is kinda boring to look at. And the fruit colors are not for me.Wouldn't be mad if they also offered a space gray (or similar) option. Bring it on!
21.5-inch iMac had a starting price of $1299. The M1 24-inch iMac that replaced it has a starting price of $1299.Which would be insanely cheaper compared to what we have today if we wanted a similar setup:
Studio display (27): $1600
M2 Mac mini: $600
Magic keyboard + magic mouse: $200ish?
Total: $2400 vs and hypothetical $1600 for a m2 27 inc iMac. I’ll take the iMac.
A 24 inch iMac is a great option for those with limited desktop space. This would be my wife's next Mac, whenever Apple's ready we are.
I'd like a 61" Mac. I'd hang it in one of my rooms and call it my "Wall-O-Mac Studio", but say it rapidly, like Wallomack!A 31" iMac would be an ideal size display for me. There is potential out there.
- iMac (24") Display
- iMac Pro (27") Display
- iMac Pro Max (31" Display)
This would be my wife's next Mac, whenever Apple's ready we are.
3Ghz 6-core i5 chiming in. With slow fusion drive. Were sooo ready! This would be my wife's next Mac, whenever Apple's ready we are.
