I love all the comments regarding Apple doesn’t know what they’re doing. Looking at how it’s been going for them I think they have a pretty reasonable idea what they’re doing.

At this point I would be very surprised if we see an M2 iMac. It’s far more likely the iMac upgrade will be M3. And I suspect we will see it by the end of this year. Indeed I think we could be surprised and see it at anytime by the end of this year.

Unless it’s actually advantageous for them I think Apple could whittle down two or three colour choices or swap out to a couple of new ones. I’m also sure the off-white bezels are here to stay. And while a new larger iMac isn’t impossible I wouldn’t hold my breath for it.

I can’t see this really as a new iMac given it’s the same chassis, but it’s more a significant upgrade. Regardless the M3 iMac is what I’m waiting for. Bring it on.

Hope they make changes. The computer part of the iMac should be replaceable. If Apple really care about the resources used, not just say the words, they would do this.
The design of the M1 24" IMac used both a SOC Heat Sink to a FAN and a 2nd Fan was for cooling the small board. Separate intake/exhaust Left and Right on the bottom of the chin. Additionally the solid metal frame on the rear of the 24" iMac further dissipated the heat quickly. So updating the SoC for good thermals was very easy to implement with this design.

The only problem then becomes pricing. A 27" iMac would probably start at $1499 or $1599
Which would be insanely cheaper compared to what we have today if we wanted a similar setup:

Studio display (27): $1600
M2 Mac mini: $600
Magic keyboard + magic mouse: $200ish?

Total: $2400 vs and hypothetical $1600 for a m2 27 inc iMac. I’ll take the iMac.

See iMac Pro "starting at" pricing from a few years ago. I genuinely will not be surprised at $3499.

But if we want to cast some marketing generosity(?), perhaps a minimal config that hardly anyone will want "starting at $2999". I have no imagination at all for an iMac "bigger" from modern Apple for less than that, given where Studio Display is now established and slugging in the guts of a MBpro + keyboard + mouse. If $2999, I'm guessing even keyboard & mouse may be accessories.

But we'll see. Maybe Apple will surprise us all.
Everyone seems to forget that the reason the Studio Display is so expensive it that it includes an iPhone inside that doesn't do much, other than force Apple to keep making firmware update to fix it's flaws.

I've always envisioned that Apple could make the iMac so the display folds downward, so you could access the internals. Then design it so you could just upgrade the logic board.

I'd like to see a nice basic 27" or larger iMac. People who don't need all the performance but just want a bigger 5k+ display. IMO an iMac Pro makes very little sense with the Mac Studio and Mac Studio Display combo being a much better value than the iMac Pro ever was.

Apple knows better than you what people want. If you want a bigger screen, just buy a bigger monitor for your Mac mini.

I am getting a Mac Mini to go with my 32" 4K Gigabyte monitor since I know Apple won't be making a 32" monitor, and if they did, it most likely would-be a pro version and out of my reach. But the thought of having a 32" AIO iMac makes me happy!

Bigger is not necessary matched to the preferred resolution the display should use as a Retina display.

4.5K screen = 2240 x1260
5K screen = 2560 x1440
6K screen = 3008 x 1692

a 6K native resolution would be 6016 x 3384

I bought a used 27” Intel iMac 2020 because apple is not releasing an M version. Now I will stay happy with it for 6 or more years :) your bad, apple

seeing how awesome a.I. is developing, why should I even buy a new Mac? In 2 years we will be able to just say what we want and it will be edited via web by a.i.

21.5-inch iMac had a starting price of $1299. The M1 24-inch iMac that replaced it has a starting price of $1299.

The 27-inch iMac had a starting price of $1799.

If Apple can offer a 24-inch iMac with the same starting price as the 21.5-inch iMac, then it's not out of the world for Apple to offer a new 27-inch iMac for the same $1799 starting price as the previous 27-inch iMac or even for $100-$200 less.
