IS ANY ONE PAYING 1500 FOR X PHONE?

I'll be getting a 256 and waiting whatever time period I need to in order to get it. I went up to 256 last year because after 9 years of caring two devices, I thought it was finally time to retire my iPod Classic. So now I have all my physical music on my phone and carry one device. Yes, I'm aware of apple music, but why pay $10 a month for the convenience of streaming a ton of music I already own?

In my opinion, I really hope not many people actually pay Apple that much for the X. It really isn't worth it people, it's just a phone. And I'm saying this as someone who has run out and bought the newest iPhone every year up until now. Please people, just don't. It's going to set a new precedent and new price point for future phones as well. Next year and every year after that, the new flagship iPhone will be $1000+, if you and many people go out and pay it. Just think about that. If this launch is successful, Apple will think they can raise the price to that or more permanently and they won't take a sales hit. Don't enable them, vote with your wallet. Let's start a movement here.

Which one are you pre-ordering? Going to get 2 or 3 of them?

;)

I mean... I'm totally not buying one either. Movement. Yeah. Let's start a movement...

(meanwhile I have favorites setup on 13 devices between 6 family members at 4 properties ready to order as many as they'll let me, I just hope I can convince some people not to order so I have a better shot)

The problem is that unless we want to suffer with our 6's and 7's for another year, we either pay $1149 for the X or $849 for the 8. The $300 delta makes the X the better choice from a cost standpoint. It's actually the 8 that is grossly overpriced.

Those of you who suffer in silence. Oh the humanity.

Most people I’ve spoken to at work are pretty unimpressed with Apple’s latest offerings, and tend think the price of the X is crazy for a device that mainly gets used for internet browsing to kill an idle few minutes.

Most (like me) however feel stuck with Apple as we’re too lazy to shift over to Android - something Apple relies on rather too heavily.

I used to buy alternate releases starting with the 3GS. Now I’m still using an iPhone 6 (in fact I carry 2 as one is my work phone) as the 7 didn’t look too interesting. I was pretty ready to buy an iPhone X but having seen it I think i’ll give it a miss, I just can’t see the value in it.

And before someone pipes up saying I obviously can’t afford it, our family income would put us in the top 5% of UK households. If I think the price of the X is a bit crazy god knows how the other 95% of UK households feel able to justify it, but good luck to them as the country generally is under a lot of financial pressure.

Well, yeah. If all you use it for is a little browsing and killing an idle few minutes, stick with a more modestly priced device (eg. the 8). Many of us use these devices constantly and depend on them for a whole more than just idle-time.

And, yes, granted, the 8 Plus would do most of what I want just fine. But the cost difference between a 256GB 8 Plus and a 256GB X isn't that much, really, and for those of us that use these devices constantly, having the nicer form factor, the nicer screen ... just having a nicer touch/feel/user experience in general is worth a few hundred bucks for the year.

Absolutely! Looking forward to it. I am selling my 7 plus to someone who already told me they want it, so I will be recouping about 500 bucks, so there is that.

:D

Killing an idle few minutes is pretty much all anyone I’ve ever met uses their phone for! What are you depending on yours for, I’m genuinely intrigued?

The nicer form factor, touch, user experience etc, all seem very subjective. Arguably with the notch the X is a step backwards on that front but certainly it feels like a case of rapidly diminishing returns. The big advances we used to see between versions are really drying up, it’s very hard to get excited about them. I was playing with an 8 today and I’m sure the screen is a little better than my 6 but I can’t honestly say I noticed (not like when we first saw retina resolution released which was incredible).

Tiny incremental gains but they still want big money for the upgrade. I’m getting bored of that game, I just don’t see the value any more and that frustrates me as I do still (sort of) want to give them my money!

I'm going to buy 256GB X ($1,100) with screen cover and case probably another $80, Apple Watch Series 3 with Cellular ($399), AirPower charging mat ($200), AirPods ($150). Plus 8% tax of $140 for a total of $2,000 or so. I will be financing this purchase with my kidney :(

If someone offered to sell me 12 iPhone X 256 GB'ers for guaranteed 11/3 delivery (contractually and legit of course, with huge penalties for non-delivery) right now, and charged $1499 a piece for them , I would slap that $18K down without batting an eye.

That's how sure I am that those with X's to sell on launch day will be making a KILLING. Based on the latest shortage news, I don't think many will be getting them on 11/3 anyway, but those who do... $3000+ easy.

So once again, YES YES YESSSSSSSS people will pay $1500 lol... They'll be stupid not to, but liquidity is definitely a luxury!

And no, not even worried about being able to return them. That's just an added failsafe of pre-ordering through Apple, but it's totally unnecessary.

Why do you care what others spend on their phone? You are not paying for it! Are you just trying to show you can count and add sales tax, or are you justifying to yourself that it's OK to not buy the iPhone X?

$1500 is not really a lot of money though. I don't get the upset with so many people on the price.

What?? That is 4 months salary before tax for my sister in law in Russia.

It could also save hundreds of dying animals or dozens of starving children. It could literally change the world!

But then I wouldn't have an iPhone X. I need an iPhone X. Haven't you seen the keynote? How will anyone know I'm cool if I don't get one???

Can you teach me your sick liquidity skills and scalping skills?

Sure!: Buy as many of a hot product that's allowed with your liquid cash. Sell that hot product at market prices.

If you are unable to make a profit, return the item and try again.

I learned it from a wise Chinese man I met in line for the iPhone 4. He disappeared in a cloud of smoke after he bought 8. (he really did, but it was just exhaust from a passing car). Still... Mystical!

Well I don't know what it is that you do that you have $18k just laying around to slap down in cash, but I guess good for you. I will have to stick with my $100 ZTE phone this year and not participate at all for the first time since the 3G. Maybe I will watch on here while the pre-ordering is going on to feel like I'm participating.

I by no means would be considered "rich", especially by friends/family members/colleagues lol, but I have been taught from a young age to always have a minimum of 6 months expenses "laying around". The funny thing is, that philosophy is almost a Trojan horse for saving, because if you get used to not spending every penny of your paycheck and instead force yourself to build up the emergency fund first, it really gets easier to save from there (and much less stressful too..). Now I have an emergency fund (which in my opinion everyone should have first, before even an iPhone...) and I also have savings that I can invest as I see fit. But hey, I know there are people who will claim they "can't", and okie dokie to that. I disagree that anyone that has even an iPhone 7/8 "couldn't" also have a few thousand in savings, but I also believe in the freedom to blow your money however you want (just don't lie and say you "can't" save... you could, you just choose not to).

Truly though, do I believe someone with extra money for booze, cigarettes, and an iPhone 8, "can't" save money each month so they could have some "laying around" for emergencies/opportunities? Nope. But that's their choice, and it's one less scalper I have to deal with lowering prices on launch day so it's really fine by me.

The biggest advantage to having money "laying around" is that when opportunities like the X come along (that have zero risk and tons of upside), I can take full advantage. Even if I couldn't afford 12 (I'd like more, but I'd be thrilled with 12 on 11/3), I'd buy 1, or 2, or whatever I could. The "rich" get "richer".

And if for some reason you don't/can't make a profit (unlikely), return them. Net zero. Really not a concern here though...
