And it will sell out in seconds, delivery slipping into 2018 in a matter of minutes...

If anything, it's UNDER priced. People would have NO issue shelling out $1995 just to have the latest iPhone. Don't believe me? Watch launch day, when the handful for sale are going for $3000+.

Lots of people can afford a couple thousand bucks for something they desperately want. And just like launch day prices, if you don't believe people desperately want the X, wait for October 27th. When people find out even though they ordered at 12:01 they're getting a ship date in January of 2018 it's going to be hysteria.

Apple can only do this a few more times without it being warranted (and it's not... not for a OLED screen, a fancy camera, and a dot projector), but for the time being the madness will be in full effect.

Must be really annoying for Samsung, especially considering that from a hardware perspective they have a superior device and can't beg people to buy them without offering HUGE incentives/bonuses. But like I said, that goodwill for Apple won't last forever...

Why do people think that 1500 dollars has the same monetary value for everyone?

I mean TS may think it's a ****ton of money but for someone making 100k+ a year, that's not a ****ton of money. And such a person also won't care about spending an extra few hundreds.
Make that $200K+. After taxes, maxing out 401(k), etc, that $100K comes out to just $60K or so.

The X is almost how much I pay in rent. I can't justify that purchase unless I have something bigger and better to show for it. I'm content with my 7+ until the X comes down.

Not even. I'd venture to guess if you asked most of the people in line waiting to buy this $999.00 luxury item if they had a pot to pee in, they'd say "of course, as long as I can finance the pot into low monthly payments". It's just the world we live in...

Apple and the carriers did a really smart thing by making their loans 0% too, as people that could never afford one otherwise can hide behind that 0% as a "smart move". Sadly, I would bet a sizeable amount that very few people in those programs could afford to pay the balance if the loan were called due. Even if they charged 10% interest (a great rate on consumer financing), it would take away the ability of broke consumers to hide behind the lie of "Don't judge me as someone who can't afford to buy this luxury item... I could pay cash, but since it's 0% I'll do that instead". Meanwhile the vast majority, in reality, could not.

That's why Apple is missing the boat by underpricing. iPhone is the hot product, but it isn't going to last forever. At some point (maybe years from now, I agree), it won't be trendy to own one and they won't be able to charge any premium, let alone a big one. For now though people will beg, borrow, or steal whatever it takes to get one.

$999 is a really really LOW price point for a product people are desperately lining up to buy. This isn't a Note 8. This is the latest iPhone!!!

Think it's high? Don't buy one. But I bet you will...

I assume you are not in US? US Apple Store has no Sim-Free offering, just the 4 major postpaid carriers + Virgin.

Or are you on VZW? Would love a Sim-Free version.

The sim free should be out at a later point in the future. Whatever that will mean with the talked about delays

I don't want to hear europeans and Canadians complaining about the higher prices for  products, the prices that you pay include taxes (correct me if I'm wrong). The taxes that you pay provide you with great benefits, such as healthcare ;). In the USA the prices of  products do not include taxes, and on top of that, we have to buy our own health insurance, which is way more expensive that the difference of prices. So at the end you guys end up paying way way less.....

I don't meant to start a political argument. it's just something that pop up to my mind while reading this threat.

The real cost is close to 1500. I can't believe anyone really wants a 64gb phone, so the only alternative is 256... which brings you TO 1,150.00.... And then for the person that can afford that amount of money, you throw in AppleCare... for the minor cost of 200.00.. which brings you to 1350.00... THEN don't forget sales tax of 8%... which brings us to 1450... let's just say 1500.... IS THAT WHAT YOUR NEXT PHONE WILL COST?

And don't forget the new wireless charger(s) your going to get... One for the living room and of course the bedroom... AND how about a 29 watt charger (for really fast charging). with the additional cable you will need for the charger... ANOTHER 200.00 BUCKS....

IUP - as long as I keep upgrading every year, I never pay more than 450 bucks. Last phone i get before I die I pay full price. Oh well, then it won't matter.

With all these people purchasing the 256GB model that should mean us that can make do/don’t need 64GB will have better luck at getting one. Hopefully
Most casual fans will get the 64gb. This forum is for Stan’s of apple products. I think 64gb will sell out fast as it is the cheapest new phone.

I think some are opting for the 256 GB variant, because they know it won't be the most sought after device, because its the most expensive. And, depending how much media and video someone has, 64 GB will Consume fast, which is another reason I think the 256 GB will be just as popular.

I’m buying mine outright with my American Express card so I can get reward points then pay off my phones the same night though their app ! Buying two, Silver and black 256 GB.

Nah. I'll be paying $1800.

Or at least I would be if I were paying RRP, which I hope won't be the case...

Most people I’ve spoken to at work are pretty unimpressed with Apple’s latest offerings, and tend think the price of the X is crazy for a device that mainly gets used for internet browsing to kill an idle few minutes.

Most (like me) however feel stuck with Apple as we’re too lazy to shift over to Android - something Apple relies on rather too heavily.

I used to buy alternate releases starting with the 3GS. Now I’m still using an iPhone 6 (in fact I carry 2 as one is my work phone) as the 7 didn’t look too interesting. I was pretty ready to buy an iPhone X but having seen it I think i’ll give it a miss, I just can’t see the value in it.

And before someone pipes up saying I obviously can’t afford it, our family income would put us in the top 5% of UK households. If I think the price of the X is a bit crazy god knows how the other 95% of UK households feel able to justify it, but good luck to them as the country generally is under a lot of financial pressure.

Even on contract we are looking at upwards of £80 a month on a sim only deal plus the apple upgraded program. Can’t imagine any tariff for the 256GB model under £70

Makes you think when the note 8 for me would be £30 a month cheaper.

I'd gladly pay $1500 for the best tech that the world has to offer.
However, with the current production problems I think it'll take months until they reach Sweden.
So I'll probably buy the 8 Plus, and wait until next fall to buy the second revision.

I’m on GiffGaff, for the last couple of phones I’ve just bought them outright and then paid about £10 a month. The only thing making me want to change my current phone is that the battery life is terrible now - perhaps I should just get that changed instead.

I think Im going to skip the X after thinking about it for a bit, I usually dont pay much attention to the price of the phone but the price is steep for the 256

yea I'm in the UK and will be pre-ordering 256GB for £1149.
No Apple care for me - its a rip off.
My bank insurance covers my phone (pay like £10 a month for various added benefits).

I like the white colour - but will make no difference as I normally have a case on my phone, so will be getting Space grey as the white colour wont look right on a black case. The white around the camera bump will show through a black case and it wont look great.

Planning to get the Pitaka slim case for my X and the Mag car holder.
Yes I got it all planned out in my head...:)

It will be interesting to see how the iPhone X will fair with this thousand dollar plus price tag. I for one, though I could afford it, would never be dumb enough to pay over $1100 for a smart phone. I’ll keep my phone from Apple a lot longer this time than ever before. And I can almost bet, though I have no proof, that many others will do the same or go elsewhere. Now, let’s wait for the numbers to come out in a few months.

Now, if they included AirPods and a wireless charger with it, I would buy ;)

i can't imagine most people thinking... the 256gb won't be as sought out.. unless you are a user from macrumors.. average person won't pay more just to get it on launch day. not everyone is as obsessed as we are on this forum lol.

I was too with my 8+ but ended up with 64GB. It is more than enough still. 32GB....not so much. 256GB is for mediaphiles and people who have to have EVERYTHING on their device.
Or people who are sitting on ~50GB now & know 64GB won't cover another 12-24 months.

It's easy to paint everyone who doesn't opt for the same phone as you as the one 'type' eh.......

Though the X is nice and all, I have decided to not opt in an pay such a large amount for a first generation "X" product. The reason I say this is because for me Face ID isn't as fast yet and it lacks pro motion. Something tells me that X version 2, or XI, will have second generation Face ID and Pro Motion. Then I'll be happy to pay $1130+

Most folks I know (I am Old) have no idea what storage capacity they have, and don't care.
I really think this applies to over half of Smart phone owners--they just want a phone that works, like a phone and maybe to take an occasional photo to share with friends.
Texting is important, if you want to stay in contact with your kids or grandkids--they don't "Talk" they will text.
