I bought the iPhone 11 Pro Max green color. I'm not sure if I'll update to iPhone 12 Pro Max. Thinking about keeping my 11 for another year.

Main reason is because most of my friends use older iPhones like XS Max and XR and I don't want to be "that guy" who's always upgrading

I just think getting the new one every year has gone out of style. All my friends in college use a year or 2 old iPhone. Older than that is not common but I just feel like having the latest and greatest isn't the hype anymore.

So that would mean iPhone XR or iPhone XS Max is what's common. An iPhone X would be fine too because it looks the same as the iPhone XS.

Thoughts?

Yup thoughts here. As usual, do what you like. Stop thinking about your tech choice having any meaningful value in society. I couldn’t care less what other people use.

You seemed obsessed with superficial things hence the comment that an X would be ok as long as the look is maintained.

Having the latest tech gadgets is only interesting for tech enthusiasts not for people on the street.

Depends if you want to use 5G and appreciate a 6.7" display. I think it's the biggest form factor change since 2017.

Problem is it’ll only be a 10-12% increase in screen real estate because of the tall aspect ratio so not as drastic a jump but I’ll freak out if we get a 120Hz OLED like many smartphones will this year.

Yeah but when the triple camera lens came out, the stop light camera looked outdated so I switched.

Great job, Tim 🙄

OP, there are many solid reasons one could/would choose to keep a phone for more than one year. However, none of the reasons you’ve given would fit the ‘solid’ category. You have come off as insecure in your post history and almost obsessive compulsive on superficial things. While you may spend a lot of time viewing what phones others are using, I assure you 99.9% of those around you don’t identify you by the phone you use, nor do they give a **** what phone you or anyone else uses. Base your decision on rational factors such as cost, financial means, and new features.

No in my country i can sell the old and recoup more than half of the cost.

the XR is very common in my area, or the 6s. i have never seen any of the 11s in the wild. i’ll try my hardest to keep my 11 pro max for at least 2 years

Every other year for me. I love my 11 Pro Max.

A smaller notch not that big of a deal. 5G that I won’t be able to utilize for a while aren’t enough to sway me.

I don’t foresee the camera getting much of an upgrade, as it did from XS Max to 11 Pro Max.

The 6.7 may be too big and I don’t want to go down to 6.1 display. I’m at the perfect 6.5 display size for me right now.

I suspect 120Hz display, even with the new 5nm bionic chip, may come with first year implementation issues draining the battery that will be improved the following year. Again, no problem waiting.

I feel after the 12, we will see the notch gone and it will be hard to pass up, so I don’t have any problem with waiting another year.:)

I am about to buy a ProMax. Since 5G is still another 2-3 years from being fully established I figure buy the last and best 4G LTE phone Apple is planning to make and use it till 5G is completely up and running.

If I find a sucker who would pay the difference of my pro max or even pay about couple hundred less than the cheapest 12 would cost; I would do it.
after calculating I would let phone go as low as $700 by time 12 comes out.
I would upgrade if there is 5g or slimmer/lighter body style. Also it they slimmed down the notch.

I present you : Your Average Consumer.

Insecure and superficial and optics-obsessed.

This is what it’s mainly like outside of the bubble, and boy Apple knows it and milks the **** out of them.

I’d rather keep my 11 pro max and spend more money on my drum kit.

I’m also a drummer, can relate to your answer. Another reason for me too. Got a fast crash cymbal and two new bass pedals to buy.

I will not upgrade. Retirement investing is more important to me. Buying a $1000+ iPhone every year is not the quickest path to wealth. Same with buying new cars.

Top answer.... Unneeded expense if you just bought last years 11 Pro Max.😉

Ya, I’m getting ready to pick up a DW design series kit and performance series snare this week and I can’t even begin to think about wasting money on another phone. When I think of how much money I’ve wasted upgrading phones, it makes me sick. I could’ve had my 9000 series double pedals and a Luke Holland bullet stack.

If your main reason for anything is based on what other people will think you need to reevaluate your life choices.
