I’d like to keep it another year past September but I’ve said that every year and then I see the phone and end up upgrading. I’m probably not going to this year, rather spend the money on making cool memories.

I’ll upgrade my 11 pro max when they release an iOS update that makes my phone hot and significantly reduces battery life. That’s what happened with my iPhone X and iOS 13. The first phone I attempted to keep for 3 years. I didn’t make it 🤷‍♂️

I plan to keep mine for another year, but plans always change! I could pass it over to my wife if the new one is worth upgrading to. If it looks like the new iPad Pro - iPhone SE style, I'll upgrade for sure.

I replace the iphone every 3 and half years.
It’s a phone!!! Not a magic tool.
Last replacement I was able to do in US with upgrade program.
4s - 7 plus - 11 pro max

this way it’s huge bump every time and I spend the least amount of cash.

In the end I used the same apps on all, only cameras got better....
Yearly upgrades is for rich people. Or US citizens who are enrolled in some programs.
Otherwise, doesn’t make sense. Money down the drain.

I’m aiming to keep it but come September 2020 I know I’ll upgrade 🤣

I am amazed how many people on here are compelled to upgrade after just a year and it’s not something I see a lot of people doing away from tech forums. Just seems like a bit of a waste of money by the time you’ve lost a few hundred in the device and purchased accessories etc.i think I’d be a bit bored of phones if I was only keeping them such a short period of time and don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy getting a new toy and the technology’s use of things. It takes all sorts though and it’s probably good for the industry as the market has generally been flat since 2015.

I kept my iPhone X for 2 years, which was the longest I've ever held on to a phone. If all the credible rumors surrounding the 12 pan out, then I will probably upgrade. If not, I'll hold on to my 11 Pro for another year.

I just got my 11 Pro in October. Being three months in to owning the phone, there is no way I'm even remotely thinking about whether I'm going to upgrade later this year or not. Yes, the rumors are fun to read, but I'll make the decision in September once the new devices are announced.

I honestly wasn't even going to upgrade. If it wasn't for bad service with T-Mobile/Verizon and a great trade in value on an iPhone 7 I had bought in addition to my 7 Plus (7 Plus was only GSM, needed a CDMA device to try out Verizon) I wouldn't have. AT&T pretty much doubled the value of that iPhone 7. So I got my EIP reduced to a manageable level on an 11 Pro Max 256GB. Only had to pay the taxes up front.

The battery life on this Pro Max is positively astounding. It's been freedom not needing a battery case or charger on me at all times.

It's possible that while I can upgrade in 15 months, I likely won't. 5G or not this year, I already tried the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren and I think that it'll be a few more years before I'll care about 5G again. Give it some time to be rolled out and for 5G devices to become mainstream.

I think from here on out I'll update each year. I did from 3gs to 5 and then with my job I got then we got a phone provided to us which was an upgrade every other year so I went to the 6 and then 8 plus and then I just bought with my own money the 11 Pro Max. So I'll just sell this one and buy new each year.

36 months is the new normal for me and buying outright.

I don't lose money each year, and I stay in control with maximum flexibility with dual sim and an unlocked phone.

I bought the iPhone 11 Pro Max green color. I'm not sure if I'll update to iPhone 12 Pro Max. Thinking about keeping my 11 for another year.

Main reason is because most of my friends use older iPhones like XS Max and XR and I don't want to be "that guy" who's always upgrading

Who cares what other people think. I’m the friend that upgrades every year and they call me Apple fan boy, lol. Still upgrades annually since 2007.

Depends if you want to use 5G and appreciate a 6.7" display. I think it's the biggest form factor change since 2017.

I remember when 4G first rolled out, it was super fast on mobile phones but then about a year later when it became mainstream and all the millions of people also switched to it, it became slow and congested just like 3G.

The same exact thing will happen to 5G......

Last year was the only year I chose to not upgrade my iPhone, so still have my XS, as I saw no benefits for me to upgrade to any of the iPhone 11 range (I'm not a camera user so the upgrades to that are meaningless for me).

Judging by the leaks this year (same camera arrangement as the iPhone 11 range), more than likely I will do the same.

Upgrades every year are a little pointless IMHO as the spec bumps are minimal (but have to admit, I was one of those who did indeed upgrade every year. I've seen the errors of my ways now! :p ).

That's the fault of your carrier not properly investing, rather than an underlying problem with 5G.

I will be upgrading only to get rid of this awful CORAL color xr, after that I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon

iPhone 12 seems promising in that it will have 5G , possibly an underscreen finger scanner etc
If Apple comes through with all these features then it might be worth upgrading

I kept my iPhone 7 Plus for three years. It was absolutely mint. Battery was still at 98% capacity.
My brother was fed up with his old ‘small screen’ iPhone so I decided to sell it to him for the same money I would have gotten if I sent it to o2 Recycle.

I was really wanting to switch to an OLED screen and FaceID but couldn’t go back to a smaller screen.

Buying the iPhone 11 Pro Max Midnight Green out right with AppleCare+, I intend to keep it for three years.

No. We upgrade every year to the latest and not necessarily the "greatest", but oh well....we like new bright and shiny things.

I just think getting the new one every year has gone out of style. All my friends in college use a year or 2 old iPhone. Older than that is not common but I just feel like having the latest and greatest isn't the hype anymore.

So that would mean iPhone XR or iPhone XS Max is what's common. An iPhone X would be fine too because it looks the same as the iPhone XS.

Thoughts?
I definitely agree . It was cool and fun when I was younger . But now that I’m older and somewhat more responsible , I don’t feel the need to drop $1,000+. every year . Also, my Xs Max, I’ve had it since May of 2019, it still feels new and gives me no issues with anything .

You and me both ...I kept my 7 Plus in silver for two years . It was also in mint condition . The battery was at 86% only because I used to have really bad charging habits . I Honestly could still have that phone now . I only upgraded to the Xs Max because It had been two years and I wanted to treat myself and felt the need to upgrade . Honestly could’ve saved that $1,250 haha.

Are you kidding me? This thing cost more than a grand! If I can't keep it at least three years, it won't feel like it was worth the money.

Are some of you really buying a new top-end iPhone EVERY YEAR? Must be nice to be rich!

Every other year for me. I love my 11 Pro Max.

A smaller notch not that big of a deal. 5G that I won’t be able to utilize for a while aren’t enough to sway me.

I don’t foresee the camera getting much of an upgrade, as it did from XS Max to 11 Pro Max.

The 6.7 may be too big and I don’t want to go down to 6.1 display. I’m at the perfect 6.5 display size for me right now.

I suspect 120Hz display, even with the new 5nm bionic chip, may come with first year implementation issues draining the battery that will be improved the following year. Again, no problem waiting.

I feel after the 12, we will see the notch gone and it will be hard to pass up, so I don’t have any problem with waiting another year.:)
you never know, maybe 12 camera have nightmode for all 3 lens and not just the main.
