I switch back and forth between Apple and Android. Its the only way for me as I get bored with each OS after awhile and I could never stay with one platform permanently.

Not a chance. No other phone manufacturer supports their devices as long as Apple does. I'm still on my much loved iPhone 6s that launched in 2015. Show me a Pixel that is as old and still receiving OS updates still. Nobody can show me because there isn't one. I've gotten 6 years of service out of my iPhone and am already confirmed for an iOS 15 update. Support alone is the reason I will not be leaving iPhone any time soon. Build quality is just icing on the cake.

Yes this is a huge advantage of choosing iPhone.

Most Android devices (including Pixels from Google) get three years of updates and/or security fixes from the day the device first went on sale. Those security fixes, with the exception of Pixels, are often many months behind schedule. Many of these Android devices cost more than popular iPhone models.

Nope. Love Apple or hate Apple, but if you dont like tinkering, their products tend to just work out if the box. I’m not into tinkering, so until Apple puts me into a situation where I have to tinker to make stuff work I’ll stick with them. My son changed to Android to be different. Always farting around trying to adjust this or that or what not. He likes that so it fits him. Not mine or the wife’s. We have life to tinker with.

I was using a cheap android all summer waiting on last night's keynote. And well it was underwhelming. 13 basically the 12, anything decent was on the pro which was never gonna be an option for me due to price. It just kinda feels like apple has lost its way. Same old same old with not much innovation. Was also ready to purchase a new watch but again basically 7=6. I'll hold out another few weeks to see what the pixel 6 has on offer. I'm not in the apple eco system as such anyway so it's no big loss for me.

My primary personal device is the iPad and I rely on features such as Wi-Fi calling and SMS forwarding from the iPhone so no plans of switching here. Smartphones are pretty much mature at this point that most innovations seem more like gimmicks rather than actual improvements.

That said, I don't feel the need to get Apple's latest and greatest all the time either. I was on the iPhone 7 for 4 years and replaced it with the iPhone SE (2nd gen) in 2020. I'm looking forward to the rumored 5G iPhone SE which seems to retain TouchID. With mask mandates at my workplace, TouchID has been incredibly helpful.

I have never entertained the thought of moving away from Apple to Android and/or Windows. Not a chance in hell.

That said ever since I started visiting and participating on this site I’ve been amused at how narrow focused and whiny a good many (supposed) Apple devotees can be. They obsess over things the vast majority of consumers and users would barely, if ever, notice. For many of them it seems Apple has no idea what it’s doing, can do nothing right and has repeatedly lost its way.

But they keep buying the products, reaffirming there is no harsher critic than an obsessed fan.

I switched from Android to iPhone with the 11 Pro Max because at that time, the video recording capabilities of the iPhone seems to be better than Android. And it is better with the only downside being the bitrate can't match mirrorless cameras.

I'm currently using iPhone 12 Pro Max. Fast forward to 2021, I managed to test the Samsung S21 and was surprised that it has really good video recording capabilities that definitely match the iPhone.

I look at technology based on whether it can help me save time or money, or improve productivity. And Android just has many pluses.

+ Fingerprint sensor
+ USB-C
+ Samsung Dex external monitor support
+ MicroSD card slot / more affordable storage upgrades
+ Stylus support (for Samsung phones)
+ Phone can be used as external storage for easy and fast file transfer
+ Can open most media
+ Familiar and easy to understand file management system
+ Huge variety of companies making Android phones. Pricing is competitive

I like iPhone though and has many pluses too

+ Airdrop is convenient. But it's slow and has trouble with large number of files, sometimes file formats
+ iCloud backup works great behind the scenes
+ Auto-password save and fill in is convenient
+ Has option to shoot videos in 25FPS, 50FPS

I can't think of more pluses for the iPhone

I don't really care about gimmicks like customisability, 120Hz, 108MP cameras. All I care about is work. Can this phone do work and I don't mean making phone calls, checking messages or social media.

The deal breaker for me with Android is actually the inability to record videos at 25FPS on Android phones with default camera apps. Shooting 25FPS with third party apps have limitations, ie no OIS, don't have access to all cameras, can't use full resolution. Maybe there are phones that I don't know of that are capable of recording at 25FPS.

People who spend so much money on iPhones don't want to be told that their iPhone is inferior to Android phones, especially to cheaper Android phones. But seriously, you can't even play a MP4 video with the Files app, and can't AirDrop files fast and reliably after all these years?

I'm not moving away but I'm expanding my horizons. I got a Google Pixel 5 to switch to when the mood strikes me. Partially for the change, partially because my parents got Pixels as their first smartphones and we all know who gets the call when something goes awry with their phones. Hint: it starts with 'me'. :)

Doubt it I'll leave iPhone anytime soon. Been on it after my blackberry days. Started with the iPhone 4S.
I too went from BlackBerry to the iPhone. I'd still be using a BB running BBOS7 if my carrier would allow it on their network. No interest in an Android BlackBerry.

Yes, you can. Controls are wonky though.

Now MKV might not be possible. Haven't really tested that since I prefer to use Infuse.
Oh, I just tested a download Youtube MP4 and now it works. But not with the other MP4 videos I made myself.

Same. I went from an iPhone 11 Pro to a OnePlus 8T, now I'm bored and getting the 13 Pro Max.

Doesn’t matter what Apple announced; people would complain it wasn’t enough or not “innovative” enough. Actually saw someone on this board say they wouldn’t get the phone because there wasn’t a Matte Black option. Really??

No idea what people expected.

If apple don’t remove that home bar soon and start to innovate yes, no wifi 6e no faster charging while Android is on 120w no always on display and no faster MagSafe nothing exciting iOS is stale the iPad Pro is usless

I recently tried a pixel 5a and for me Android is sooo annoying.
Can you collaborate on this please? I ask because I'm seriously considering trying some Pixel too. I'm way too tired of Apple for various reasons and want to try something new and basically free myself.

iP is the fastest, the most reliable and mature as always. but is it enough? as geek I would prefer to be more surprised, to see something more innovative and interesting. Apple is mainstream now. However I will stay in its ecosystem, after Z Fold 3 dreams...

One of the main things I noticed was how janky it was when just moving around the OS, it's hard to explain but iOS is so fluid and everything just flows. Apple has also paid a lot of attention to the tiny details that I've become really accustomed to and love. For instance picture in picture works for every video app that I have installed on my iPhone but on Android, it only worked for YouTube and the actual PiP window on Android was a freaking joke LOL.

I also have a bunch of keyboard shortcuts in settings and when typing these out in my conversations they are autocorrected but on Android, they are not. Media player controls are so much better on iOS, you can't reply to messages from the lock screen on Android, I found split-screen multitasking to be pointless (I was using chrome and trying to create an icon pack in the other window by following the guide in chrome but it was awful cause the app wasn't optimized for this type of interaction 🤦🏼‍♂️). I also experienced the overheating warning after 5 minutes when trying to film 4K.

There are many wonderful things about Android but most of it feels rushed, unpolished or gimmicky. It feels like Google has no vision and they just fly by the seat of their pants, just with their pixel phones alone there is no feature parity, every year the phones either add or remove something from the previous model. For example, the Pixel 4's big feature was the Soli Radar sensor and their version of FaceID but there were only two functions that used the sensor and many apps that used fingerprint authentication could utilize the face scan because Google didn't properly code the APIs. What happened with the Pixel 5? Instead of perfecting Soli and refining the face-scanning, they freaking scrap them both!

Sorry for the long post but for me Android is a dumpster fire and I can't trust Google to create as cohesive an ecosystem as Apple has, Google has had the same amount of time as Apple to do this but for some reason refuse.
