If it were not for the lack of ram on the iPad 1 I would stay with it but safari crashing all the time when there is a little bit of load is killing the fun of it.
To be honest I actually like the look and feel better of the iPad 1 vs. the iPad 2.

I always felt like the iPad 1 was more "solid" than the iPad 2, but I never missed its girth :)

Sorry ladies but iPad 1 was gimped from the start. The real deal was always iPad 3. Glad I made the choice of purchasing the iPhone 4 over the iPad 1

I'm going to have to wait and see what it offers, the iPad3 that is. My iPad one is chugging along fine, no issues and does everything i need.

Unless the new screen is the best thing ever, and it has outstanding features, maybe, but i'll have to wait and see whats announced before i get rid of my original beauty

I'm not upgrading from iPad 1. It crashes some, but since I wiped and set up as new it has been much better. It's still a very useful device. If anything, I'll upgrade to an iPad 2 if Verizon or someone has a fire sale on them (that's when I got the 32GB wifi for $399).

I consider the iPad to costly to replace every year (unlike many people on this forum.) I do really want an iPad 3 though, but I will have to wait and figure out how to pay for a new one first.

I am hopeful that IOS 5.1 will help with some of the slowness issues, so I do want to wait until that is released before I decide to retire/repurpose the iPad 1.

My iPad 1 is perfectly fine, but I bought it cheap off a friend who won 2 in competitions..... Only about a year ago though

Unless the spec of the 3 is disappointing I will probably be trading up

Keeping my iPad 1. Still works great for iBooks, email and Internet (I use pulse rather than safari). All seems perfect to me.

Well done, you've had two years of not enjoying the ownership of an iPad.

(Slow hand-clap)

Erm no. I bought iPad 2 on launch day. It is a vast improvement over the original in every way. If iPad 1 was so right then why did SO MANY improvements need to be made for the revision? I accept app support was slow at first but the original was clearly designed for the why-even-try-they'll-buy-it-anyway test sheep demographic. They clearly saved the true features for the 2nd and 3rd gen.

i don't know about this logic. the 1927 model a was clearly designed for the sheep and ford saved the true features for the 2013 ford escape!

the ipad 1 was still ahead of any competitor until at least the beginning of 2011. that ought to say something about how advanced it was.

anyhow, the ipad 2 was an improvement, and i expect the ipad 3 was as well. but, for some people, it is unnecessary for their needs. that doesn't make them sheep.

How is that even an equatable decision?

Not having enough money was the reason you didn't buy an iPad 1.

Not quite.

iPhone 4 was a MAJOR overhaul to keep it ahead of the competition (higher performing A4 processor compared to iPad, 512MB ram, Retina Display, 5MP camera, facetime etc. etc.)

iPad 1 = why waste features on a device that has no competition and will sell by the millions anyway?

Let me say this again, iPad 1 = why waste features on a device that has no competition and will sell by the millions anyway?

iPad 2 was a vast improvement since there were million more competitors on the market. If it wasnt for this competition we would have had far fewer updates. iPad 3 will do just enough to keep apple ahead not that much more is needed since its near perfect anyway.

I'm in the iPad 1 boat. I think I'm keeping it. It's the original. If the iPad 3 is really that incredible ill wait until its proven itself and not get caught up in the new release madness.

Ill more than likely be keeping my ipad 1...For me it does what I want, books, movies, web browsing...Bought the 64 gig two years ago for what, $700.00 ? I have a ways to go before I finish getting my money out of it.

I'd read back a few years in the news and see how critical people were of Jobs for releasing a big iPod. I was one of them. Millions of iPads and dollars later, it is pretty clear their gamble paid off.

I'm not exactly sure what your point is. Anyhow, the iPad 1 impressed me enough to buy into an environment I was (and still am) not pleased about (the locked down nature of it all). It continues to be so good that I am willing to buy the iPad 3 sight unseen. I can't say that for any other product, so I'd say Apple picked a good strategy.

My iPad 1 still running fine especially after a restore.
Always wanted a better screen though from the beginning
and the weight for one hand gets tiring, so I'll be in line.

The real deal was always the iPad 3? Where do you come from with such failed logic about a device we haven't seen yet? There is much ignorance in this logic of yours.

unlikely that it will be lighter. sorry, but all signs point to a much heavier one.

Lol.. it will sure be lighter than the iPad 1 ... a LITTLE more heavy than the iPad 2 though :D

iPad 1 = 730 grams

iPad 2 = 600 grams

iPad 3 = only about 1-2 mm. thicker (if its what rumors say it is) - will add MAYBE 30 grams (with the bigger battery) so = 630 - still 100 grams lighter then iPad 1

Had iPad 1 and sold it when iPad 2 came out. Had iPad 2 for a couple months and sold it after I realized I don't need a $600 ereader/comic reader (that is literally the only thing I used it for).

I am now considering repurchasing an iPad 1 (if I can find one like, super cheap) to once again read stuff on.

I just picked up a 64GB 3G model on eBay for $300 shipped. I plan on being inline for the release of the 3, But just to list it on eBay for a little extra coin :)

My parents are keeping theirs. It's still on 4.3.3 os and they mainly use it for safari, youtube, solitaire, and the dictionary. It's still going pretty smoothly. I'm too afraid to upgrade it to ios 5.
