The new iPad looks really nice, and I'd love to upgrade, but I'm having a hard time justifying spending $524 (16 GB WiFi + VA sales tax) on one when my original iPad still works great. There are times when it stutters a bit, but overall it still gets things done. I don't do anything too taxing on it, though.

I might upgrade later in the year or even wait until the fourth-generation iPad comes out, then pick up this iPad at a discount. The original iPad will be going to my four year old.

Holding onto it and like I said, it's retiring to the kitchen full time. I did upgrade though, as I planned to.

iPad 1 is way too slow for me now. Refurbs for iPad 2's are $349, may can even find one on CL for cheaper.

I'm not upgrading. I have an iPhone 4 which is great most of the time when not at home. When home, my MBA is perfect for everything else. Sometimes I'd prefer a bigger screen when sitting on the train during commute, but not enough to carry the thing.

I'd like the new retina display, though I still don't think I'd use it much. My original iPad is mostly used by my 4 year-old. It's perfect for him.

You could try updating to 5.1. I did so yesterday and Safari didn't crash on me all night.

Like many others have said, my iPad 1 keeps crashing. Common things that crash my iPad 1:
  • searching netflix
  • having "too many" tabs open in safari
  • monopoly and most games
  • any multitasking when some app is streaming something

I'm sure there are other events that crash it but those are the most frustrating. I can't wait to get the new one!!

After upgrading to iOS 5.1 my iPad 1 works MUCH better... It's a huge improvement over 5.0 or 5.0.1. I think I'm going to keep it for another year.

Yep, same here. iOS 5.1 did wonders for my old iPad :D it feels reborn!

The 5.1 update fixed the issues I was having. I will look at upgrading around the Christmas season, if not I will wait until next march when iPad 4 is announced and get a 32gig iPad 3 as a $399 refurb just like I did with iPad 1(I got a 16gig iPad 1 for $349 so I'll be going up to 32gigs next time). I'm still holding out hope for a 7 inch iPad, I'd upgrade to that immediately. For what I do, I don't need all the extra power and stuff right now.

I'm gluing my iPad 1 to the back of the iPad 2012 when it gets here. That way, I can have screens on both sides

Yep, getting rid of my iPad 1 and placed the order for the New iPad as soon as it went on sale yesterday. I've waited long enough. iPad 2 was not enough of an upgrade over the original for me to justify the purchase, but Retina graphics, come on... that just sealed the deal.

iPad 1 has gone all slow since iOS 5.

Safari crashes if there is a big page, even a forum.

It can take ages to respond at times.

I have the iPhone 4 so it has the same chipset, and that is much smoother on the same thing, so it is the RAM that is hampering it.

Will give it to my parents to use i think when i upgrade.

yeah I haven't made up my mind on either getting the 2 at a lower price or getting the 3. but if I do upgrade, I will give my original one to my dad.

I think I'll hold onto my iPad 1 for a while longer. iOS 5.1 seemed to make things a bit more responsive. Regardless, I've found that my iPad has been relegated to bed-side and couch-sitting duties. I typically use it to quickly look things up while watching TV or laying in bed. I will occasionally use Netflix or play games and I rarely take it out of my apartment. It was great for taking notes and reading class material in college, but I've recently graduated and landed a full-time job. I still find that my MBP is my main workhorse. If I have some extra cash this summer, I might upgrade, but I'm in no rush.

I'm keeping mine. It works well, has never crashed and does what I want, so I can see no reason to change.

However, if a windfall were to come my way...:)

I was on the fence to upgrade from ipad 1. Love the device and use it every morning for web, news, and email. For that, ipad 1 is still fine. However, I have had more safari crashes lately (possibly fixed with 5.1 update, clearing cookies+data, and limiting # of open tabs). Was leaning towards holding out one more year to amortize the cost a bit more, but wife says she wants my ipad 1.

So it's a done deal, new ipad ordered. I hope safari is snappier and loads pages faster, and hope the weight is noticeably lighter. Everything else is gravy.

Good luck to those deciding to upgrade. I don't think you can go wrong either way. You might even spread the joy to someone you love by giving away your old one in upgrading.

Seriously considering getting an iPad 2 for the family as the prices have dropped across the range here in Korea. The 32gb model is now selling for slightly less than the old 16gb price. Very tempting. I'll keep my iPad 1 a while longer. Want to see what issues might crop up on the new version.

I thought long and hard about waiting another year but the old iPad was slowing down a bit and all the photo software on the new model made my mind up and I sold the iPad1 on ebay. Paid $329 last April for a 3g 16GB refurb from AT&T and sold yesterday for $330. I'm feeling good about my upgrade.

I'm keeping my Ipad 1 (my 15 months baby love it to play baby games on it) and will buy the ipad 3 when it came to my country (maybe around july)..still have time to spare and to choose (white or black) hehehe...

I bought a iPad 1 a couple of weeks after release. I bought a iPad2 on realease day. My wife ended up with the iPad 1. The newer apps have been reseting on her like crazy lately so now is a good time to upgrade. I thought about just getting her a iPad2 after they lowered the price but decided to go ahead and get her the 3.

Went for a bargain!

Gave in to discount temptation and bought an iPad 2 last night.

On top of Apples drop across the range, the local dealer was offering a further 5% off. So I went for it and got a 64gb wifi model for about 700,000 Korean won. $ to won is about 1150 won to the $. The old 16gb price was 640,000!

Camera and display were the only big new features on the new one. I got a faster model and more space to store stuff, so I'm happy. Each to their own.

Must say the camera on the 2 is pretty crap though, and to think I nearly never bought the first gen because it didn't have a camera, ha ha.

I'm going to have to wait and see what it offers, the iPad3 that is. My iPad one is chugging along fine, no issues and does everything i need.

Unless the new screen is the best thing ever, and it has outstanding features, maybe, but i'll have to wait and see whats announced before i get rid of my original beauty

Mine too, but I fear the new apps coming out won't work on the iPad 1, such as the iPhoto app. That really sucks  I want to edit pictures and not have to take out my MBP.
