For me, the 12 was just much better value. In my country the 12 is priced at $670, and 13 at $1000. For just slightly better performance and battery life, its just not worth it.

I upgraded this week from a 1st gen iPhone SE to a iPhone 12.

Wow, the difference is amazing. Much better performance, camera, battery life, screen, everything really. It really feels like the perfect phone to me.

I'm perfectly happy this year...Now don't be jealous and don't be afraid to admit you had one either...

I had one in 2001. My most vivid memory of it was that the battery would die even if you had it charging while you talked on it. It consumed power faster than it could charge.

Great days, though. I miss the early days of cell phones. It was kind of fun to buy different phones from different brands back then. Besides Motorola, almost everyone was on equal footing.

I still have a bag of my old Nokias, I never owned the 6110 sadly but I did have an 8810 and an 8850 which were just the most gorgeous designs… I do miss those days when new phones could look radically different, but I wouldn’t give up all the stuff my iPhone can do

If I can make it 4 years with my XR I’ll be happy - unless these rumours about a new SE Plus next year come true…

Nice, I was on a 6s Plus but decided to go all in on a 13 Pro Max because it’d been 6 years since my last upgrade. People here often forget that iPhones can last 6+ years.

This, absolutely. I had an OG SE until I upgraded to an 11 Pro and I can envision keeping this thing quite a while.

I’m still thinking about it actually. GSMArena reported a 121 hours battery life rating for the 13 Pro Max. My kind of battery numbers. It’s very tempting but I wonder if the regular 13 Pro might boasts decent numbers too. If it does then I think I’ll go from my 11 Pro Max to the 13 Pro. The size is ideal for me I would think.

Still contemplating…

With the insane trade-in values this year, it made no sense not to upgrade. I upgraded the whole family — iPhone X, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12 Pro, all netted $1,000 each for Verizon trade-in. (Well… minus $200 for the cracked back glass of the X).

Now the whole family is on iPhone 13 Pro (with 1 Max).

I know I posted earlier - my wife and I decided not to upgrade only to ... after the macro lens information came out, decide to upgrade. But, we could only find a phone for my wife at our local apple store, so I decided I'd stick with my 12 Pro Max.

Her 12 Pro Max. was at 93% battery health and dropping like a brick. My 12 Pro Max is still at 104% capacity.

She got a 13 Pro Max specifically because she works in a lab and could really use macro photography. I still have my 12 Pro Max and cuz I really don't take macro shots and I spend most of my time reading an iPad .... I'll keep mine till the 14 next year.

She's not really noticing that much of a battery life difference but she hasn't taken it through the ringer yet doing all day trips, etc. But I'm surprised, I expected a night and day difference. She is a heavy phone user and could easily charge her 12 Pro Max 2x a day.

I had the 12 mini which I gave to the wife and got the 13 pro. If the wife didn’t need a new phone I would not of upgraded.

I lied earlier about not upgrading my 11 Pro. I went to Best Buy and they offered me $680 off a 13 Pro with a trade. I took the deal and ran. My only concern is my fully paid for 13 Pro is locked to T-Mobile. I have read that it is very difficult to get T-Mobile to unlock phones not sold directly by T-Mobile. I may be back in a couple of months screaming about this when I try to get it unlocked.

iPhones can last much longer. I’ve been using my actual phone 11+ years.

Yea I got a co worker still rocking an iphone 5S and it still works. I told him that an upgrade would be well worth it for him at this point. He is an older dude and refuses to upgrade stating that Apple phones cost too much these days. I told him not all the phones cost 1,000 dollars he could get and SE or XR for couple hundred bucks. An iphone 7 Plus is running for like 200 these days.

I am not upgrading. I just got iPhone 12 Pro (well February but you get my point). I bought the phone with the idea to use it for 5 years (given the price I paid for it) and I am sticking with that. Not that iPhone 13 Pro does not have benefits, it does but not enough to make me upgrade so soon. I prefer to wait for move to USB-C (otherwise transfer of ProRes is PITA), allow cinematic mode for 4K videos and 60 frames, make the camera bump slower or remove it all together and if possible remove the notch. Again iPhone 13 Pro is not a bad phone but I don't think that it is so cool to make me ditch the 12 Pro. I am interested whether they would go with the iPhone in the next 5 years though.

I'm kind of tempted to but I'd be coming from an XS Max. Compared to my wife's 12 Pro the camera in my XS Max is definitely showing it's age. However, I still am sticking to my 4 year upgrade cycle and will get a 14 Pro Max next year.

While I am quite tempted, my 12-mini will do just fine for at-least another year.

It's the new iPad Mini that has my attention right now . . . which is awkward, as I have no need, or existing use-case scenario <smile>

Are you noticing any thermal issues with your 12 mini, getting warm to the touch with light use, or even randomly hot? One reason I might want to upgrade is that I am hearing the 13 series isn't as bad in this regard.

It has become 'warm-er' on a few occasions, but nothing that really stood-out.

I work outside on the daily, and "warm" is a relative concept . . . 32C mid-day, and 'everything' seems warm ;)

Speaking of Warm:

Always enjoy watching JerryRigEverything on YT

He usually takes a lighter to the screen of his 'teardowns', and the IP13PM's response was different:

Don't know if that means anything profound, but it is singular.

Thanks for the response! Mine might be problematic, then- noticeably warm to the touch in a cold room even with very light use, and flat out hot- with the screen even dimming due to the heat- in that same cold room on random occasions doing nothing heavy at all- just browsing social media.

Same mentality here. Next year, the 13 Pro will likely have a trade in value delta that is close to the amount I had to pay to trade in my 12 Pro this year. For a device that I use multiple hours every day of the year, the small amount I had to pay out of pocket to cover trade in made it a no brainer.

URWelcome :)

Mine only dims when out in full (hot) sunlight . . . right at about the time I am desiring/needing more brightness, which is, er, rather inconvenient :/
