I meant no offense. Just trying to bring a bit of levity.
But seriously the mini is tiny compared to a pro max. I can’t imagine trying to do things on a 4” screen. Typing on the mini (w/ 2 hands) was tough.

All good - thx for clarifying actually :D

(lots of divisive snark on here these days and its' nice to hear that wasn't the case here).

For me, it's just not an issue I guess. So much of my interacting with it is simply swiping, unlocking for paying, answering calls - a lot of stuff through CarPlay too

The 4" phones have always been a great size for me and I haven't changed size since they came out.. haha

I'm just really happy it's getting iOS 15!
Hoping to keep using it as long as I can and maybe I guess get a good deal on a 12/13 mini eventually if need be.

Note: I "only” have an iPhone 11, but the ultrawide lens on it is exactly the same as on all iPhone 12 models. (This, and the fact that I would have had to upgrade to the 12 Max to get the best normal lens, caused me NOT to upgrade to the 12 series last year.) And as the main weakness of the 11/12 series is the ultrawide lens and my main aim would be getting the 13 Pro for a much better UW lens, I chime in the discussion.

So, I’d use the 13 Pro mostly for shooting (which I do a LOT). About 70-80% of the time I use the UW lens to shoot multiple-hour nature videos (swans, sunset, sunrise etc.) and I need the UW too very often when shooting handheld on for example vintage car fairs and the like. If (if!) indeed the 13 Pro gets a significantly better UW lens, I’ll get it. 60 fps would also be great - for example, handheld shooting (see the above example of vintage car fairs) could then always be done at 4k60 because, then, I could always switch back to UW when there’s need to it (for example, an approaching car got too close etc.).

I think the 6s is getting 15 which means the SE should as well since it has the same internals.

With the trade in value of my 12PM, the upgrade to a 13PM is $300. I’d call that a no brainer.

I just went through same process to trade in 12PM 256GB for a 13PM 256GB and it was going to cost £600.

Can you provide some more detail on your upgrate?

What upgrade deals are others getting?

The 13 doesn’t interest me as an upgrade at all over my 12. The 13 pro does a bit, but I’m going to hold off and wait for the 14 series.

I fully expected to be getting a new one, I usually find the allure of a shiny new toy too hard to resist.

But this year, it’s a hard pass for me. I honestly said, I’d that it, at the end of the iPhone segment this year.

Of course the 13 is a better phone in every way than my 12 PM, to expect anything less would be madness.

But it’s just not a significant enough of an update to open my wallet this year.

I know we can’t expect too much else at this point, incremental updates are to be expected with the current state of technology. But I’m hoping that next year we’ll at least see a few more significant changes.

My wife and I didn't upgrade, first time since the Xs Max (we've upgraded every year since then). We just didn't feel like shelling out $ for it.

Biggest factor? My wife stayed on the Apple Upgrade Plan for the 12 Pro Max but I got my 12 Pro Max through my Apple Card with 2 year payments. Realized I couldn't just trade mine in for a new one like I could with the iUP.

Next year, we both can trade in our 12 Pro Maxes in for a $500 reduction/each on a new iPhone 14. Yeah, we'll do that. lol.

Sounds like a very sensible decision to me. I honestly think next year’s iPhone will be a much better upgrade over the 12. Well, it’s bound to be after a two year gap. And if the rumours about it are true, it’s definitely going to be my next upgrade….. well, it likely will be regardless :D

All I did was select my iPhone 12PM for trade in and that it is in excellent condition. They're giving me over $700 for it

I don’t think i will upgrade. I love my mini. I still daydream of a mini pro model but i know it won’t happen lol

For now I am passing. The 11 Pro is still a great phone. I hate the Intel modem though.

we also just got a meeting AT&T cell tower near us so I am switching from Verizon since our service here is non existent. I couldn’t stomach being locked in for 36 months for upgrading, so I am taking the 10 month $25 credits x 2.

I haven’t been traveling for work and mostly stick to the house so I will give it another year and see what the 14 brings. If I really get the itch I can trade in my phone to Apple and pay in full to keep my $25 bill credits so not losing much.

I think a lot of people are upgrading.. to the 11. That is a great phone for $499.

Problem is, it's sold out. The 12 and 13 are easy to get at least for now.

In fact, I was going to go that route of upgrading to an 11 myself, but since it's sold out I'm getting a 13 Friday.

Normally I'd just get the 12, but as prices on the iPhone have gone up the $100 price reduction for the 12 becomes less relevant. It's a lot more relevant when you're talking $400 vs $500 or $500 vs $600. At $700 vs $800, not so much. This is particularly true when you get 1.5-2.5hrs more battery life, twice the storage, and what should be a better modem for $100 more. The other improvements seem like fluff to me. Still the reality is, if the 11 were in stock and available anytime in the next couple of weeks I'd be getting that.

All that said, I am a little bit excited to have the most recent version of an Apple product. Haven't done that since the iPad 2 came out, when I bought the iPad 2 with 3G, a 27" iMac, a Macbook pro, and an iPhone 4S all in one go in 2011.

Look at the Visible website. You can get the 12 for $600 plus a $200 gift card in three months by porting in your number. You can leave after that if you’d like. That makes the phone $400 plus original sales tax.

You also save Apple’s BS $30 surcharge for buying an unlocked iPhone.

Is anyone not upgrading and waiting until next year? I’m not going to lie I am very tempted by all these deals!
This is the first year I’m not upgrading. I’m pretty happy with my 12 Pro Max. The 120hz screen was tempting but I can wait another year and hopefully get a design change and/or usb c.

What capacity are you buying and what capacity trading in?

In UK the 256GB price is £1149 and I was offered £540 for my 12PM/256GB, which would have been £610 for trading in a 512GB.

EDIT: I just went through the buy with trade in process on the US website and was offered $790 trade in without saying what capacity it was !!? Buying a 128GB would have net cost $309 as you have found.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me but I think the UK to US comparison is confused at least partly because the US purchase involves carriers and in the UK it is carrier independent, plus the usual UK "tax"?

There is no sane or logical reason for anyone to upgrade from a 12 series to the 13. None, nada whatsoever. Certain people will want to pretend that pro-motion is worth the upgrade, it isn’t. People will hold out updating their 12s to ios15 just so the 13 feels ‘new’.
Cinematic mode will eventually come to the 12 via a software update - and I bet you that happens next year.

I’m not sure what’s going on. I have a 128gb device which I’m assuming they know because it allowed me to choose my current device for the trade in. It quoted me $790 trade in value for a 13PM.

Yes, when I do the trade in process on my phone (with UK site) it detects what my capacity is, but when I did it on the US site I was using my computer so it couldn't know what the capacity was and didn't ask, as it had on the UK site.

All very strange

My last iPhone was iPhone 6s, and my current phone is Samsung S8+. I wanna get back to iPhone but am debating between the Pro 12 and Pro 13. Camera is my most important feature, all the other stuff Pro 13 has over the 12 Pro is not important.

But price wise, dunno if the Pro 13 is worth the extra over the Pro 12 second hand market.

EDIT: What's all this trade in? Can I buy an iPhone 14 on apple.ca next year and trade in my 13?

I am REALLY tempted to upgrade since I am hearing great things about the camera improvements this year on the 13 pro max as I do video and photography on a freelance basis. But I want to upgrade when there are more substantial features and maybe a redesign (no notch and under the screen touch ID).

So I plan to stick with my recently replaced/ brand new 11 Pro Max ( 256 GB) for another year.
