Not upgrading immediately but will likely look to do so in the spring. I'm currently om the 6s and getting iOS 15. I'm going to see how much longer I get security updates before I make the jump. Trying to milk every possible minute out of this phone.
WOW! and I thought my mom's 6s plus was old!

I’ve had my XS for three years. The plan was to upgrade to the 13 or 13 Pro this year. I used to always upgrade every two years back when Apples phone cycles were more predictable. I’ve also had $1,300 worth of credit in my Apple balance for the past year with nothing to spend it on. All acquired through credit card rewards. After watching the event, I decided to just wait another year, because the phones don’t seem much different than the 12.

Then, I ran across a deal on Visible where they are selling the iPhone 12 for $600, plus you receive a $200 gift card after 3 months of service. You also get $15 off your first month of service, and they have no activation fee. After selling my XS, and acquiring the $200 gift card, the 12 will only cost me $188. That was a good enough deal to make me upgrade. No lease, and if I want the 14 next year, I won’t feel bad because I didn’t spend much this year to get the 12. My XS battery is at 77% health so spending $100 more than a battery change for a brand new iPhone 12 seems like a no brainer. I’m not sure why they are running such a good deal on the 12. They are selling the 12 mini for $120 more than the 12, and you only get a $150 gift card with the mini.

I wasn’t going to leave that $1,300 in my Apple account for another year either, so I ordered the new 24” iMac to replace my 2013 MBP that rarely leaves my desk. Win, win.

I currently have the 12 pro max but my wife wants to step up from her xs max. So I’ll be upgrading to the 13 Pro max as she wants my 12. Win win, bigger win for me lol

I am not tempted and I have an "aging" iPhone X. The reason I put aging in quotes there is because I had the battery replaced, so the iPhone's battery life is like new.

There really wasn't any significant features announced in this year's iPhone revision that had me salivating or nudging me to upgrade:
  • The notch is still there, just like with my iPhone X
  • only the Pro phones get ProMotion
  • There is still no TouchID; FaceID only, and we all know how difficult it was for us to unlock our iPhones when wearing masks....
  • 5G still seems to be in its infancy and I believe that when Apple releases their own custom modems in hopefully 2 years time, the battery savings and performance you will see when cellular connectivity is enabled on these iPhones that have Apple-equipped modems, will just blow you away...if their M1/A-series chips are anything to go by....
So, for many reasons, 4 of which I mentioned above, are, I think reasons enough to skip the iPhone 13 and wait for the iPhone 14 or, hell, even the iPhone 15, when 5G will become more mature and Apple will be shipping iPhones with not just their own SoC, but also with their own modems too.

In addition, in 2 years' time, the chip shortage will most likely be a nonissue, and you will, most likely, be able to order a new Day 1 iPhone, even if you place the order the next day!

I guess, what I am trying to say here is, if you can hold off, I would suggest you hold off: the pandemic, the chip shortage, and Apple's long term plan for the iPhone seems promising and new features are coming to the iPhone which will blow you away and make today's iPhone seem old and boring...

I am not, as I am very happy with my 12 mini and planning to use it for as long as possible. And the longer I do, the better my next upgrade will feel. It’s a win-win. 👍

I wasnt going to upgrade from my 12PM but thought I’d give it a try (13PM). I can always send it back If there is not too much difference. For me it’s more for the screen and battery life.

I am going to pass on the 13 and keep using my 8 plus. I am waiting to see if the rumored SE3 plus comes to fruition.

I'm running a samsung note 8 with a cracked screen and 75% battery health left, and man was I looking forward for this 13 release. Well in the end it didn't really give me any closer to the edge of throwing 929€ (13) 1179€ (p) or 1279€ (pm) for a new phone. And nah the exonys s21 ultra for a 999€ (current sale) feels just the same.
These prices are getting silly, and features eeeh. Well maybe the camera reviews will get me closer to upgrading.. dunno.
On the other hand I think it is always best economically and enviromentally to get the best thing possible and use it as long as possible, but man I get buyers remorse even from watching the adds lol.

But but but, no more mini after this year 😁😂

The blue 13 mini is 😍

No worries. 😊🖐

Firstly, Apple might continue selling 13 mini even after iPhones 14 come out, just as they did this year.

Secondly, there is a chance that a mini might take the SE spot at some point.

Also, what we hear so far is that Apple will stop making 5.4” iPhones. They might well go back to 5.8”, which will be great, IMO.

If none of this happens, I will just punish Apple’s lack of hardware flexibility by getting the smallest and, therefore, cheapest iPhone model. As long as it runs the latest iOS and has a decent camera, I am good. 🖐

But we already know what the differences are. Or are you looking for hidden differences?

We know the specs. I think he/she means if there is no discernible difference in practice. I.e. pictures don’t look that much better or ProMotion doesn’t make a huge difference

That's nothing. There are members here still using a 4s.

This is the first year in many years that I did not upgrade. I’m on the IUP so it’s usually pretty easy to justify upgrading even though upgrades for the past few years have been incremental. Nothing particularly less appealing in the 12 to 13 upgrade than say the X to XS or 11 to 12, but this time I’m just replacing my Apple Watch 4.

No - as a super portable device I use to pay, make calls, respond to texts and snap a photo here and there of notes of things of interest, plug into CarPlay, etc

Not everyone has the same needs

Most things people seem to do with their larger iPhones I do on my iPad or Mac.
I meant no offense. Just trying to bring a bit of levity.
But seriously the mini is tiny compared to a pro max. I can’t imagine trying to do things on a 4” screen. Typing on the mini (w/ 2 hands) was tough.
