I am not tempted and I have an "aging" iPhone X. The reason I put aging in quotes there is because I had the battery replaced, so the iPhone's battery life is like new.
There really wasn't any significant features announced in this year's iPhone revision that had me salivating or nudging me to upgrade:
- The notch is still there, just like with my iPhone X
- only the Pro phones get ProMotion
- There is still no TouchID; FaceID only, and we all know how difficult it was for us to unlock our iPhones when wearing masks....
- 5G still seems to be in its infancy and I believe that when Apple releases their own custom modems in hopefully 2 years time, the battery savings and performance you will see when cellular connectivity is enabled on these iPhones that have Apple-equipped modems, will just blow you away...if their M1/A-series chips are anything to go by....
So, for many reasons, 4 of which I mentioned above, are, I think reasons enough to skip the iPhone 13 and wait for the iPhone 14 or, hell, even the iPhone 15, when 5G will become more mature and Apple will be shipping iPhones with not just their own SoC, but also with their own modems too.
In addition, in 2 years' time, the chip shortage will most likely be a nonissue, and you will, most likely, be able to order a new Day 1 iPhone, even if you place the order the next day!
I guess, what I am trying to say here is, if you can hold off, I would suggest you hold off: the pandemic, the chip shortage, and Apple's long term plan for the iPhone seems promising and new features are coming to the iPhone which will blow you away and make today's iPhone seem old and boring...
