Hello everybody!
I got an all new MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro Base Model and my LG Ultrafine 5k charges it normally but it isn't detected as a Display or shows any kind of image. My old 15,4" 2018 Intel MacBook Pro runs the monitor without any problems. Both Monterey 12.0.1 and same cable connection (I tried both the original and a replacement cable, which worked fine with my 2018 MacBook Pro). The 5k is updated to its latest firmware (according to lg Screen Manager tested with my 2018).

Contacted Apple support with trying following steps:
- New Admin account -> nothing changed
- New Monterey Installation -> nothing changed
- Deleted the com.apple.windowserver....plist files in both Libraries with a reboot -> nothing changed

Apple support told me to get in contact with LG which I did and they told me its a problem which has to be solved by apple. Now my Macbook Data is checked by Apple Technic Support within the next 7 days.

Does anyone have the same issues and knows an answer to the problem apple does not know? Do I have to wait for a software update, is it a Monterey or M1 Pro problem? Any help is gladly appreciated! :)

Does it appear as a Thunderbolt device connected at 40 Gbps x1 with Link width x2 in System Information.app?
Does it add a USB Bus in System Information.app? And some USB devices for audio and camera and brightness control?
Do you have a Thunderbolt dock to connect it to?
Can you connect two normal displays to two Thunderbolt ports? To one Thunderbolt port using a Thunderbolt dock or adapter?

Thanks for your reply.
It doesn't appear, it says "no device connected" at any of the three TB4 Ports. Speed is 40 gbps x1 but Link width is 0x1 at all three ports.
As well there is no information at any of your mentioned Tabs, only in Power supply the battery gets charged but no further device detection anywhere.
I have no dock, I just connect it directly via Thunderbolt cable to the LG 5k. Tried it with a cheap adapter, charges again but no image. HDMI works with another monitor but I have no possibility to test another TB Monitor with my MacBook.

Happens every time I wake my M1 Mac Mini from sleep. Monterey still hasn't fixed this..
How do you know this is a Monterey issue and not an LG issue? From what I can tell LG can't even be bothered to update their LG Screen Manager app so that it works on new MacBooks. They released an update for M1 support like a year ago but it still doesn't work.

I am having this exact same issue with my new 14" 2021 M1 MacBook Pro connected to my LG Ultrafine 5k. The MBP shows that is charging, but no image displays on the external monitor at all. I have restarted both devices, tried new cables, etc., all to no avail. My prior 13" 2020 M1 MacBook Pro still connects/works just fine with this monitor.

Update: It seems that the USB-C cable that originally came with the LG Ultrafine will not work with the 2021 MBPs. The screen is now working with my new MBP after switching out the original cable for a newer, higher bandwidth Thunderbolt cable.

LG Ultrafine 5k comes with two cables - USB-C and Thunderbolt.

Thanks for your answer, what kind of cable are you using? I am using a Thunderbolt 3 40Gbps 8k@30Hz/5k@60Hz replacement cable as well, but it still doesn't work. Can you tell me which exact cable you're using? If that's the solution I will buy it immediately but it will still keep me wondering what's wrong with the other one.

Could one of you guys using an M1 Pro/Max based MacBook Pro show us what resolutions are offered in Display Preferences if you Option-Click "Scaled"? The list was pretty limited on a regular M1 MacBook due to limitations with its frame buffer (or so it was told on the first page of this thread). I'm really hoping there are more options again.

Via my 16" M1 Max, I get the following resolutions for my LG 5k Ultrafine

5120x2880
3200x1800
2880x1620
2560x1440
2048x1152
1920x1080
1600x900
1440x810
1280x720

I use an OWC .7m Thunderbolt 4 cable to connect my LG 5k to my M1 Mac mini (or my 16" M1 Max) and it performs flawlessly.

Thank you @Bebel! That is far more limited than I thought it would be. :(

For context, this is what my Dell U2720Q allows:

3840x2160
3360x1890
3200x1800
1692x3008
2560x1440
2304x1296
2048x1152
1920x1080
1680x945
1600x900
1504x846
1280x720
1152x648

My issue is that any of the top scaled resolutions feel a bit blurry to me since they aren't actually an integer scale, anything less than 3008x1692 feels too large, and the unscaled 3840x2160 is too small. The UltraFine 5k actually just exacerbates that then.

Can anyone running an M1 Mac Mini with the LG Ultrafine 5k confirm if upgrading to Monterey solves any of the known issues? Such as:
• when waking the monitor can be full brightness?
• taking 5+ seconds to wake from sleep?
• the pixel shifting issue in the middle of the screen?
• apps (including Safari) being resized as though they were on a smaller screen?

To recap, I also have a 15" MBP 2018 that shows none of these issues when used with the monitor. To be fair, since the latest Big Sur upgrade (11.6 / 20G165) I haven't had the pixel shifting issue.
I can't update for a week or so, but I'll report back if I find the brightness/resizing issue fixed...
I'm still having issues 1, 2 and 4 after waking up from sleep, on my M1 MacBook Air, Monterey 12.1, and the LG Ultrafine 5K.

I never had this issues with my old 2016 Intel 13" MacBook Pro.
