I'll most likely go from 7 Plus to X, then X to X Plus next year.
BTW here's a comparo of actual screen sizes.

I am, I actually like that its a bit smaller then my 7+.Is anyone here upgrading from the 7 Plus to the X? Kinda feeling scared as reddit and some posts here are all warning me it’s a much smaller screen than my Plus but I really feel like handling that new tech so very conflicted whether to get this or get a Note 8 which has similar technology but without the screen size issue. Is anyone here making the jump? So I feel like i am not alone.![]()
My thoughts almost exactly. If the X wasn't coming, I was going to go with the iPhone 8 this year after having 6S Plus and 7 Plus. I'm growing tired of the larger size but stayed with it for reasons listed above. I'm excited that I won't have to make sacrifices to use the device I want.I've always hated that the Plus iPhones were always a bit better than the non-plus, because I do prefer the smaller physical size of those phones. But the better battery life, camera, and screen density always kept me choosing the Plus. So now I'm really looking forward to having the best iPhone available with the smaller body. Hopefully the battery life will be the same as with the Pluses as Apple claims. Next year when the X Plus is offered, I hope all the specs will be identical to the smaller version. So yes, I will be getting the X when it's released

The screen is taller but it’s width is only as much as the 4.7 iPhone so if you take into account the notch it’s much smaller than the 7 Plus. What do you mean smaller screen, it’s a 5.8 compared to 5.5 on the plus. So it’s bigger.

The time between the announcement and the time to get the phone allowed me to get some priorities straight. I decided to put the money to hurricane relief instead. Also it gave me time, on a more self serving level, to realize I don't want to be stuck preordering the carrier version of the X with the Intel modem. There was a discussion about that elsewhere and I really would prefer to get the unlocked version. I actually have more interest in the iPhone 8 Plus at this point as a more practical choice for myself, if I were going to upgrade at all. In the end I am just going to hold onto my 7+. Eventually the funds will be there again to re-evaluate my options when my 7+ is well past the year mark of ownership. Like around Mothers Day or something.I too am having second thoughts to upgrade from an iPhone 7+ to an iPhone X. I was going to order two phones, one of them for my wife. I am having second thoughts for myself. Main reason being I am very uncomfortable not being able to play on the phone prior to ordering it. If the phone was on display at an Apple stores, I would play with it and then I would order it. The time between the announcement and the time to get the phone is kind of killing my enthusiasm for it.
I’m excited - definitely getting the x - I know I want a 256 - I’m in turmoil about the color
To match my SS watch or not

The aspect ratios are different so it’s not reliable to compare screen size directly.
It's bigger on paper because it has a different aspect ratio. You could take the X's screen cut the width in half make it a tiny bit longer and have a bigger screen on paper. A marketer's dream really.
Measuring diagonally in inches kind of losses it's point when you change the aspect ratio, but the measurement is true on paper and marketing loves it. Here is an easy example, I even threw a notch in.
