Ok, so i have now switched out two units for battery issues. Apparently it might be software related i was given a workaround that might fix it.

Fine, then i go and try and make a facetime call. WOW. So, this company is literally cutting every corner for their margins aren't they? They had the audacity to put in an inferior facetime camera on this machine than their previous models from 2014 and before? ARE THEY SERIOUS?????

First off it's still a 720p camera not even a 1080p, second it's far inferior than the iphone cameras, and now unbelievably they decided to go even cheaper and make it worse than previous macbook models lol.

Holy goddamn cow. I"m in utter shock right now. I purchased a $1400 computer (before applecare) and i have a camera that is as good as a $200 chromebook?

Is this company serious? I'm sorry for the rant post but my god i can't believe everyone here, and elsewhere still accepts this.

It sucks to have cheap components on a fairly expensive laptop, I agree. However, it's business. A new upstart company would have to go out of their way to offer you value (or reasons) to buy their product. A company with Apple's reputation and clout doesn't need to do that, so they'll maximize the money they can make on each product.

Everyone "accepts" this because they'd still rather have the Apple laptop than the competition, even with the inferior camera or whatever else you can find in terms of cutting corners.

Perfect example of this is OnePlus. They began selling really cheap, and putting in relatively high end specs. Every year, as their brand and consumer awareness grew, so did the price, to the point where the difference is now not too big between the OnePlus 7 and other flagship devices.

You see this in other types of products too. Genesis offers you all kinds of extras as standard, BMW does not. In fact, BMW has the equivalent of 480p cameras in base models throughout the lineup. Porsche takes this to the next level, making all these companies look like amateurs selling lemonade on the side of the road.

And we americans are stupid to allow this to continue. for as much as i have loved Apple the constant sour grapes i get with their products these days leaves me bitter, and hoping for their downfall.\

if u think tje mbp has bad webcam(it does not), the mba one is horrible. so apple did use a better webcam on pro

other companies do the same. BUT only apple provides the best after sales support

Take it back and get a refund if you are not happy with it or you could just buy an external webcam if you need better quality. I agree the webcam could be better and Apple should not be costcutting when it comes to this.

The camera is not the best, but it’s certainly not worse than the 2014 model, no idea why you’d say that. The main reason why they use a 720p camera is simply because the display assembly is very thin. The iPhone is much thicker and can host a beefier camera module, so it’s incomparable. Case in point: all other premium laptops (Dell XP’s, Lenovo X1 etc) use a 720p cameras. First educate yourself, then rant.

Why don’t you give some details on exactly which model you are talking about? If it is the baseline new 2019 model, that is NOT my experience. At all.... only comparing i have is the speakers are mehhhh

Isn't it the same garbage as in Air 2018? At least when you look at the camera model numbers in MacOS "device manager" it is the same part in both of these. I had Air 2018 and now entry Pro 2019 model and cameras are identical in terms of image quality, only small difference is that Pro has little more saturated colors which I believe is just internal software setting in driver (it look washed out color in Air). All in all to me it looks like the camera quality is identical to those first cheap web cameras sold about two decades ago. They are enough good to recognize the person you are talking to. :)

That being said, I'm sure you don't want to start comparing the speakers with any previous Macbook...

I have the new 2019 MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) with 256gb hard drive.

What? sorry the camera IS worse than my 2014 Macbook. Sorry, but it is which is insane, really. There is no excuse for this, i can't believe people are making some, or attempting to.

It is 2019, this computer is going to cost over $1600 with applecare and inside we get some webcam that looks like it could be from 2010? are you serious?

The image is so bad that i thought there was a problem with the computer and got ahold of tech support lol ,that's how bad it is

Now you are exaggerating, more fair comparison would be to camera from year 1999. :D

Seriously this camera seem to require a lot of light to give any decent results. Normal "dimmish" room lightning just does not work at all. Then when you go to store compare between say 2017 nTB that has different camera and this 2019 model side by side the difference does not look big due to incredible bright lightning, or the demo models are just better.

i no longer have the 2014 but i'll see if i can find some old photo booth pics to demonstrate.

you're right about the lighting. this new camera doesn't do good in dim lit rooms. still, with the horrific saturation, gritty and noisy image it is still horrid compared to previous ones. it is shocking to me how bad it is when an iphone 6 facetime camera blows it out of the water.

Yeah, that is true. Still this one looks a bit better than the same camera in Air 2018, mainly because in that camera colors are even less saturated (probably just made up difference between the models as the camera part appear to be the same based on "device manager").

How you like the speakers in Pro 2019? I did direct comparison to Air 2018 and they are considerable worse in Pro (basically no bass output at all compared to Air). Otherwise sound is rather balanced, but so incredible "tinny".

Yep. That generation of MBP’s is unfortunately already infamous for its battery issues. If possible, I would recommend returning it and getting the early 2019 model with 4TB3. I have it and it is incredible. Good luck!

I haven't really done 1 to 1 with the air yet, my brother has one so i'll do that when he comes over but coming from a 2014 air, these speakers sound much better... i was going to say "obviously" but then i laughed thinking about the facetime camera, it's not obviously, it's thankfully lol

Tell me about the battery issues....

this laptop shut off by itself after 58%. i was told to do a workaround because it's some type of firmware issue

OK, good to hear they are better than in all previous Macbook's because difference to Air 2018 is pretty noticeable about low bass sounds. But luckily sound is rather balanced.

I haven't experienced any shut off issue with mine but I do see that battery full charge capacity takes quite noticeable "dives" when doing something CPU intensive stuff where power consumption is nearly 40W. It dips even lower loads but not that much.

Is trackpad in your machine completely level? It is not tilted in any direction? Mine definitely goes lower toward keyboard, not much but it can be seen when looking closely at right angles or feeling the lip with finger compared to chassis at different parts of the trackpad. Also higher edge is almost the same level as the chassis and it is somewhat annoying as it even lifts a bit when it gets warm just that much you can feel it is a thickness of a hair over chassis then.

I don't believe this is fixable with OS update alone. I'm pretty sure it needs fw update to hardware to fix this issue, unless the cause if not the most obvious reason (the battery itself).

This is concerning, as I was leaning toward purchasing this computer and need to do a lot of videoconferencing. Are you able to post examples?

If you plan to do that in low light, then I'd say you might want to look for the other options. Image quality is about the same as when you take a picture of someone during snowstorm. It is tolerable but far from good unless viewing it at the size of a stamp sized window.

I'm not sure if the camera in 4TB model is also the same. I think I checked that at the shop and the camera model number was the same, but honestly I may remember wrong. Image quality if very hard to compare at the shop anyway, due to extreme bright lightning. In 2017 nTB model camera seemed somewhat better and part number was Apple something… definitely seemed different part number than ones in 2019 models.

I returned mine for multiple issues. Looking at an XPS. Need to get work done.

what type of videoconferencing? it's serviceable if you're basically talking about business and what not. But if you need quality image to judge a piece of fabric or design....yeah, no.

i'll post pics later today but moving visuals is worse since it's such a noisy signal, the more the image moves, the more noise.

i haven't noticed anything with the trackpad yet.

i love the new keyboard, and i like the trackpad compared to the 2014 macbook air i had. i know people have said the keyboards are going bad, i hope they fixed this issue and don't change the feel of it because it's probably the best keyboard i have ever typed on... i'm a big fan of 'blast typing' and never enjoyed long travel keys.
