I returned mine for multiple issues. Looking at an XPS. Need to get work done.

Horizontal lines flashing across the screen. Reminds me of graphics card issues from the past. Battery depletion issues for no reason, and the sides got so hot I couldn’t use my laptop on my lap. And I can’t confirm but I could swear I had keys double strike.

I had the 13 inch base with 256gb of storage.

i haven't noticed anything with the trackpad yet.

i love the new keyboard, and i like the trackpad compared to the 2014 macbook air i had. i know people have said the keyboards are going bad, i hope they fixed this issue and don't change the feel of it because it's probably the best keyboard i have ever typed on... i'm a big fan of 'blast typing' and never enjoyed long travel keys.
Keep and eye on the trackpad. It took me a quite a while to notice it, but luckily it is very minor and I probably get used to it once I learn to ignore that. I mean I'm talking about something around 0.05mm or so, it is just that when it is fraction of that lower of the chassis when cold and just fraction of that higher over the chassis when hot, I can feel it with my finger. If the trackpad would be already say 0.05mm lower at the highest end than now staying all the time just a bit under the chassis level even when hot, I would have never even noticed that feature.

About the keyboard, I like the short key travel a lot but I'm not sure if the latest keyboard version really makes much difference as I've had several stuck keys in my Pro already but I had none with my Air 2018 which had older gen kb. Anyway, I have always gotten it work again by just hitting the key many times and I've also used compressed air just in case. I think it probably just need some break in time as it seems to improve. Also it is somewhat heat related as the last stuck key was in the area that heats the most. Maybe new plastic material reacts different way to heat than older silicone type they used and needs some more use to "break in". Or I'm just hopeless optimistic...

I see but I think you just got mixed up thinking features as issues… :D
Seriously I've experienced all you listed but I'm dreaming about them being just normal for this model and hopefully some of them gets fixed along the road with updates because I've seen way to many complaints about the same things I cannot believe they are all just faulty. I'm "sucking up" all these features for now because I wanted my new computer with Apple logo.

i wasn't going to get applecare on this unit just like i didn't on my prevous two machines but it looks like that wouldn't be wise.

are these computers really having issues like this? jeez. applecare it is.

I seriously doubt the flashing horizontal lines were a feature. They looked just like graphics card failure. It happened sometimes by itself or when I was using the computer. It started off random but became more common. I don’t feel this is a software issue. This is a hardware issue.

I can see where the heat issue could be a design feature, and maybe the battery was depleting based on my use which by the way was minimal, but either way based on the history of the model it made me nervous enough to return it.

Lets hope you are wrong. :)
Because in my unit I've seen them more rarely now. The flashes definitely looked similar to what hardware issue can cause too but since I've seen so many complaining about these and some even swapped machines without any improvement I doubt they are not that. Also I'm mine the first time I saw that was just the same time when my machine entered night shift mode. I also considered it might have been loose cable or bad soldering but since knocking and shaking the machine never cause them I doubt it could be the reason (not impossible but I'd say unlikely as I tried that after every time I saw flashes).

Actually I'm most annoyed about the gradient banding. It is something I used to see in Windows machines before 16.7M color era and in some badly implemented 6+2bit dithering panels (but even those are not usually this pronounced), I was not expecting to see that even again after that. I guess it may be due to panels being pushed over their limits to show correct colors.

ok so the battery workaround issue seems to have worked. Im' under 54% and the computer has not shut off.

No, they're not serious, they just did that to mess with you. They have the screenshots of you getting pissed all around the office and they are laughing.

Seriously, they probably find that not too many people use facetime on the laptop and think the camera it came with is adequate for the task.

Have a nice day.

Holy goddamn cow. I"m in utter shock right now. I purchased a $1400 computer (before applecare) and i have a camera that is as good as a $200 chromebook?

Is this company serious? I'm sorry for the rant post but my god i can't believe everyone here, and elsewhere still accepts this.

Let me get this straight, you are shocked at something that is clearly advertised on Apple's spec page ? It's common knowledge that the webcam on Apple's notebooks are not top notch, a bit of research would have saved you from this emotional distress.

There is no perfect device nor a perfect company. This is why to each his own, what might be important to you won't be to others and we are lucky enough to have more than enough options out there in the market.

.

yeah dude sorry i got shocked that they decided to put an inferior camera in their 2019 than they had on their 2014 laptops

my bad lol

what type of videoconferencing? it's serviceable if you're basically talking about business and what not. But if you need quality image to judge a piece of fabric or design....yeah, no.

i'll post pics later today but moving visuals is worse since it's such a noisy signal, the more the image moves, the more noise.

I wish it were as interesting as judging fabric or design, but it's mostly talking to guys in suits about spreadsheets. Sounds like it may be adequate for my purposes, but it's a shame to have to settle for adequate with an expensive machine. Thanks.

yeah you'll be fine then but it may still be embarrassing.

I've noticed those, too.

I'm (kind of) hoping it's a software issue, knowing (very well) that it might be some hardware glitch. :(

To the topic at hand: The camera is (more than) good enough for my needs; which is the very occasional videoconference from home... :)

Is there a video or a picture that shows this problem?

I have not seen a video of the issue. For me it was random not something I could recreate. It would happen for a few seconds and disappear then reoccur sometimes minutes or sometimes hours after the first incident. To sit there with a camera waiting to capture the incident did not seem reasonable.

Usually when people ask for video it is because they doubt the alleged problem. Are you doubting my MacBook Pro had an issue with horizontal lines?

I tell you one thing, if the lines had not occurred I probably would be typing on the computer right now. I really wanted to keep it, but do not trust the current hardware Apple is putting out.

Edit: Found this thread. Was pretty similar to what I was seeing...

Which model did you have exactly? I hope they fixed the issue because despite my complaints about the facetime i am realy enjoying this computer.

It's powerful enough, i love the keyboard, the touchbar is growing on me, and the screen is really nice. Oh, and of course its' a beautiful machine.

It isn't perfect though but close.

I had a 2019 1.4, 8gb ram, 256 storage, space gray with Touch Bar.

It’s not even close to perfection when overheat doing different things

If it overheats it's faulty. They may mean that it's getting hot, which is not the same thing. It's hard to tell though.

Mine ran really hot on both sides. Too hot to use my laptop on my lap. This was just browsing and watching a few videos.
