In the car manufacturing arena, you have pretty much two schools of thought. One school tries to go for the revolutionary new thing every year. The other school goes for small improvements every year that bring them more and more satisfied customers. The revolutionary school applies to most American car makers, while the evolutionary school applies to the Japanese car companies. I don't know about you, but I find my Toyota to be a much better driving experience than my Chevy from high school.
Until the day companies can come up with holographic displays or phones thinner than some unhealthy anorexic, we're probably looking at smaller evolutionary changes. As others have suggested, you can go for the android phones. Every phone ecosystem has tradeoffs.
Does that mean you can't hope for the next big thing? Of course not, but it doesn't seem as you have realistic expectations for what's feasible for Apple's economic plan.

Take two happy pills and go to bed for a week. When you wake up go buy an android phone, a windows notebook, a Samsung tablet. Call in next week and tell its how dumb you feel.

If the spec bumps aren't enough for you then don't upgrade? I could care less about the look of the phone. I care about the specs. I think the 4s specs are great when compared to all previous iPhones. The camera alone continues to amaze me. I have a nice cannon camera and the 4s consistently is able to take nicer pictures. I may never buy a point and shoot again, I think that's a big deal.

I will admit I've had the battery issues with the 4s that many other users have reported. After some tweaking it's better. Other than the initial battery issues I have been enjoying the 4s very much.

It's just the age we live in I guess- people are given more speed, more ram, more storage, better software, and they still just want more.

if you really wanted function over form, you wouldn't own an iphone would you?

I've been thinking of Apple for a while. I just thought of something. Maybe Apple is starting to suck. I mean, the "new" iPad is disappointing (Take the retina display off and what are we left with?) and the iPhone 4S (I mean really. It's just a camera, speed bump and a useless voice recognition app) and the Final Cut Pro X (That is much less powerful), the upcoming Mountain Lion (Which claims to be a "New" OS but is really just a bunch of apps), the Apple TV (A dumped UI), and the white iPod touch (Apple got lazy and just introduced a white model).

Do you think it's time to lower our Apple product release standards?

It could be just another disappointing speed bump and battery life increase.
Some of you may say I am an Apple hater. I am not. I am an apple lover. I just can't take this new Apple anymore.
Is Apple really dead without Steve Jobs?

What can you say?

Oh come on... I know you were expecting a virtual laser keyboard on the next iPad. :D

3. improved resolution.

How much better than Retina do you want? Might take a while to be supported and be able to be manufactured at a reasonable price point.

4. new Physical controler introduced as an add on for iphone so if you wanted to play a game you could have that extra playabilty as shooting games with touch screen are annoying.

Third party add ons. Won't happen from Apple.

5. make it slighly cheaper? lol not gonna happen.

Yup. Apple builds most of their products to a certain price point and sell all they can build.

6. 2 speakers rather than the crappy one.. i do actually notice the difference between mono and stereo thanks

Not gonna happen. No speaker worth anything can fit in the iPhone's form factor. Again, third party add ons fill this need.

7. led light in the home button for notifications... MAJOR WANT!!

That would be cool. Better than the whole screen lighting up. A nice pulse like when Macs sleep would be nice!

8. and finally the groundbreaking and actually the only thing i want more is........ a different coloured iphone, i would want dark metallic purple, yellow or orange or blue.

Colorware PC does iPads. I could have sworn that they did iPhones. I am sure there is someone out there that does.

Are you trolling or what? You want 2 things:
1) NFC last October, a tech that hasn't been fully adopted by retailers, a tech that isn't completely supported by 2 of the larger iPhone carriers, and a tech that is getting quite a bit of press for... next summer... So having a certain technology for the sake of it being there is a pretty ridiculous argument

2) Apple to invent some random thing, but you don't know what it is...

you really need to consider an Android phone, iPhone is not cutting it for you...

On your point one I have two. One, NFC is everywhere you just have to look for it. Gas stations, best buys, convenient stores, vending machines, etc. Not everywhere I agree but a lot of places. When I first got a smartphone I didn't realize how many places had free wifi because I wasn't looking for it. Two, you mention a tech that a lot of carriers don't support. Like LTE for most the world? Apple is still doing that.

And on your point two and this doesn't goto just you but why does everyone expect the OP to have this revolutionary idea? That wouldn't be very revolutionary if he's been carrying around this idea in his back pocket would it?

What is this improved 4S speaker nonsense? it sounds the same as my iPhone 4's mono speaker. Only the Bongiovi app makes mine sound better. I still want stereo speakers on opposite sides. If Blackberry can do it 3 years ago with the Bold 9000 - apple can do it. Make it a hair thicker- Who cares?

The 4S WAS both evolutionary AND revolutionary. Why? Because it managed to to take the "same old" design, and add enough to it to generate sales that dominate any other single phone in the marketplace. When has that EVER happened?
Don't confuse evolution and revolution with sales volume. One doesn't have anything to do with the other.

The iPhone has the best software of any smartphone in my opinion. I've used Android and BB. I haven't messed around with windows yet. But out of the phones I have tried the iPhone takes the cake by far. So yeah, for my needs, the iPhone has the function. The form isn't hurting either, but I honestly sometimes miss the larger, thicker phones of a few years back.

I was referring to the Improved speaker output and the gps whatever. The camera is ok. Just ok.

Apple used to make me wow on a yearly basis. Now, all I get is speed bumps. A little improvements, but only to catch up with the competition. Nothing is new. Just siri.

Um, I thought the point of technology was to enhance productivity and creativity? I don't need to be wowed (though, it is cool every once and a while) I just need a sold product that lets me get things done. The reason there is less "WOW" moments is that apple has gotten past the core of its products and is now tweaking and enhancing them.

Apple's products are the best they have ever been and looking back and seeing how far we have come in the last 10 years makes me say "WOW" :)

I think a lot of people will be surprised

A lot of people are saying that Apple has done so many amazing things that they are running out of ideas or bound to become just another tech company with minimal improvements. If memory serves me correctly, people were saying this after the 3rd generation iPod, and then the Video iPod came out and changed things again. People were also saying these things after the iPhone 3GS came out thinking that Apple was running out of ideas. A lot of these same sentiments were being expressed with their Macbook/MBP line before that was refreshed. Then the Macbook Air, then the iPad, then the new generation AppleTV....

I don't know what people expect. But for a company to continue to create things so frequently with such great build quality is awesome. I don't need the continuous innovation but enjoy it very much. What makes me continue to purchase Apple products is the quality. I have a 2009 iMac that still runs like it is new. I can say the same for my iPad, my iPhone 3GS, and my Apple TV. I even have the first video iPod 32GB that still works flawlessly; so does my wife. The fact that I can continue to use a device after 7 years the way it was intended to be used the day it was manufactured is absolutely amazing.

As a new user coming over from android I have to say I'm impressed with what I own Apple wise! I like there ideas and I like where there going I'm very happy without fragmentation. Still own a Galaxy Nexus but everything else is Apple. Their is nothing in the android world that will ever beat the iPad Nothing!!! The iPod Touch is excellent as well as the new Apple TV I'm very happy.

Your wife still works flawlessly after 7 years? That's great. Most people would be looking for a refresh about now!
In all seriousness I just gave my daughter my old iPod nano from years ago and it still works perfectly. Who can say that about there old Microsoft machine? Mine didn't work properly when new.

The only thing I can say to the OP's point is that maybe, just maybe, Apple having an "event" to announce upgraded products can leave people feeling disappointed sometimes. Don't get me wrong, I am sitting at my computer during these events reading along to see what's going on. But take for example the 4S, did that need an event to be announced? Couldn't an ad on the website have done the job? People expect this stuff anyway so the news would spread just like it does now.

I am not sure why we can't expect a redesign every year???

Why not multiple size?

What's wrong with experimenting? It won't even be experimenting as people buy anything apple throws at them anyway.

I am afraid in few years apple will be product people buy because of the brand than its product is truly amazing.

I hope it doesn't come to that.

What can you say?

No, according to the Macrumors forum participants, Apple started to suck a long long time ago.

I present you the Macrumors forums' reaction to the introduction of the original iPod from 2001. Some of the quotes from the first page of that thread:

iPoop... iCry. I was so hoping for something more.

hey - heres an idea Apple - rather than enter the world of gimmicks and toys, why dont you spend a little more time sorting out your pathetically expensive and crap server line up?
or are you really aiming to become a glorified consumer gimmicks firm?

I still can't believe this! All this hype for something so ridiculous! Who cares about an MP3 player? I want something new! I want them to think differently!
Why oh why would they do this?! It's so wrong! It's so stupid!

I've found the new iPad to be pretty dissappointing as well. I actually returned mine to Apply (not sure, but I think you have 10 days for a no questions asked refund). I'm liking my iPad 2 all the more better.

LMAO!!

Posts 6, 8 and especially 20 are classic. Are they still current members here? Hopefully they never got into management positions at a business.

It's amazing that our automobiles can go years without a complete refresh, but our technology must get a complete refresh every year in order for some people to be completely happy.
