Now I’m losing my mind. I never owned an iPhone 8, but didn’t Apple make a battery case for it? Everything I read says there is no iPhone 8 battery case, but I could swear there was, and that only one of the Apple battery cases works for the se2.

Or maybe I’m thinking about how the 7 case works but the 6s case doesn’t.
Just going off of memory I think the iPhone 7 case fit so they didn’t make one specifically for iPhone 8.

Found a “new” se2 for $299 on swappa. iPhone 7 battery case for $80 on Amazon. Only thing holding me back is there is no returns on swappa, so if it bothers my eyes like the 11 I am SOL. I don’t wanna pay $450 after tax to Apple, just so I can return if necessary.

If you can get it new (hopefully unlocked) for $299 then I don’t think you’ll have too much trouble selling it as lightly used on eBay if you experience any issues. I can’t fathom why it would bother your eyes.

I’ve tried finding a better deal elsewhere but it’s preferable to just go through Apple directly.

Also I think you’re responding to the wrong thread since we have a conversation ongoing in both. ;)

The iPhone 11 and xr bothers my eyes (and a few more people on here) and the theory is it’s temporal dithering on all phones made after the 8. It’s $299 on swappa and was purchased in March 2021, so it’s not new, but obviously was hardly used. I may do it but I’m like you and struggle badly to make a decision, even after massive research lol

I already know the answer, but are any iPhone 12 models better than the others in terms of PWM?

Admittedly I’m still searching for some sort of workaround, but even the jailbreak community hasn’t attempted to create a flicker-free setting.

There are simply no real alternatives for those that suffer from symptoms. I’ve already tried iPhone XR, iPhone 11, and iPhone SE and suffice to say I haven’t come away satisfied with any of them whereas I was completely satisfied with iPhone 12 Pro Max notwithstanding headaches.

@MICHAELSD: When i compare the test results from Notebookcheck it seems that the iphone 12 pro would be the best option to try. It uses on brightness between 21-50% a 60 Hz mode similar to a DC Dimming Function. Here has someone post a video and compared the iphone 12 pro with the iphone 12 and its seems really better. But what when Apple use LG und Samsung Panels on the pro and there could be differences? I would like to try the iphone 12 because here in Germany it is over 200€ cheaper than the pro model and i don't would miss the third camera. But when the pro ist better regarding pwm, then the pro could be the better choice to try. I would like to see a iPhone whit a good 6,4 inch LDC Display like on the iPhone 11.

Does Apple use Samsung and LG on the Pro? This might explain why my first Pro made me sick but my current one does not.

How do we check who the display manufacturer is on our phones?

@noobinator: I have read that there is a Software from China that can determine what Display is installed. Rumours says that LG supplies Apple with 6,1 OLED Displays for the 12 Serie but not if only for one of the two or both. The experiences are quite different. Some say they had problems with the pro and not the normal 12 Model, others are quite opposite. It seems that the 12 pro is not always better than the 12.

They should in theory be using the same display panels, so the real difference if there is one should come down to supplier: LG vs Samsung.

iPhone 13 Pro is using 480hz PWM dimming at all brightness, worse than iPhone 12 series

It’s worse because it uses PWM at all brightness levels instead of below a certain brightness level? Because the frequency is higher than the 12's ~250Hz which should make it less noticeable, no?

You can see the PWM in the 13 & 13 mini in this video -- flicker is noticeable.

For the 13 Pro Max, I'm not able to see the flicker. And he has a comment box that says it's possibly flicker-free.

The 13 Pro is similar to the 13 Pro Max in that it's not detectable.

If you look at the 12 Pro and 13 Pro side by side, you can see the flicker in the 12 Pro but not the 13 Pro.

When i search for "iphone 13 pro max pwm" on google i find references to chines websites that mention this. When the google translator are working correct, then there should be low pwm frequency on all brightness level. They say that it could be worser with LTPO than before 😵It's time that the new iphones arrive so that we have first experience and or could check in the store.

Really bad news about iPhone 13 screen. Apple don't think about safety and health of customers who uses these flickering OLED screens. I plan to use my iPhone SE 2020 as long as possible to stay with safe IPS screen.

I am confused, 480hz is pretty good, no? It may be there all the time now but at that higher frequency it should cause issues for fewer people?

In iPhone 12 series, we can set a high brighness using DC dimming, and then use Reduce White Point to stimulate brightness adjust to avoid PWM flicker. But with 13 pro, there's no DC dimming at all.

Aaron from zollotech showed the screen at 240fps slow mo and in the video there is no flicker compared to the iPhone 12 or 13 OLED screen.
Well, this certainly could be promising! I wish he’d done the 13 pro and 13 pro max at the same time like he did the mini and regular 13. I have a pro coming and am curious if there’s a difference between the two pros.

This would be promising! Could you say me at which time he test this so that i not waste my mobile data?

Thank you for posting this! It indeed does look promising. I'm really hoping that this screen will work with my eyes this year. I also like that the display is on the cooler side but who knows what I'll get. Hoping that the regular Pro is similar.
