Seeing that they released iTunes 8.2 prior to WWDC and saying that it supports iPhone 3.0 OS, it is very possible that they will release the 3.0 at or not too long after WWDC.... That's what I'm hoping for anyways

Don't do this to yourself! I've learned after 8 years of following Apple events that if you expect the worst, more often than not, you'll find yourself not being disappointed. We'll most likely see a Beta 6 released at WWDC after the new features are announced, if their are any, and then the final will be out in late June or mid July.

I also doubt BeeJive knows when the release is because I can't see Apple telling them that before WWDC. If they were telling developers this, I am sure more would've leaked out than what we've seen.

I've learned this in my 2 or so years so I yes I must agree with you . :p

They may be telling big devs such as EA, but that would be the most I could see finding out.

However I see the argument for it, because if Sprint is like most companies you have a month to return or do whatever, and having 3.0 out before this gap is over might give them time to snag back some customers.

In conclusion I am not hoping for it on the eighth, but will by no means be surprised.

They may tell big firms that will have things like in-app purchasing in their apps, but small firms like BeeJive will probably not get any heads up prior to the release. After all, it probably isn't difficult to have PUSH put into the app, and they could have already done it for the betas. They might announce 3.0 at WWDC and have it released when 3.0 comes out.

3.0 will be released during WWDC because of the June 6th release of the Pre. Apple wants all of the comparisons to the pre to include the new functions of 3.0.

Thank God for the Pre or we'd have never gotten MMS & cut and paste.

I disagree. This was not the motivating force for Apple. In the scheme of things, the Pre is just an annoying gnat to the Apple machine. The pre is lucky to sell a million units. What is the iPhone at? 20 million worldwide and growing?

MMS & copy/cut/paste was an outcry from the user community worldwide. I think Apple just relented. Nothing more.

I highly doubt we will be seeing it released next week because apple will want to have sessions to teach the attendes of the WWDC. Let's not forget why they have the world wide Developer's conference, so that developers can come and learn form apple and each other.

Considering the number of reports concerning the bugginess of OS 3.0b5 (it is a beta, after all), I highly doubt that a final release is near. There will certainly be another beta at WWDC, but I am betting the final release will be mid-July.

I reckon it will be released next Friday
3.0 that is , and the new phone in July or end of June
at the earliest !
I have 3.0 beta 5 and it's not at all buggy so Im sure
now the push has been tested it's nearly ready to be
released .

My theory: Apple will release beta 6 after the keynote, with new features announced in the keynote. This gives developers a month or so before the new phone and 3.0 release.

i guess the answer to the title of the thread is 'yes'.

let's wait until monday to see shall we? :p

Joe Schmoe average customer will not have the patience.

Joe Schmoe average customer doesn't even know what a Pre is. Seriously, go talk to people who don't read tech forums/blogs and see what percentage know or care about a new release from Palm.

I'm not saying the Pre is bad, or that it won't sell (relatively) well. It will probably appeal greatly to a lot of people who know the smartphone market pretty well. But it's not an iphone.

Most of the people I know who have or are planning to get iphones didn't/wouldn't even consider any other smartphone - not because the iphone is that much better but because it's the iphone. Rightly or wrongly, it's become a phenomenon, a cultural icon (much like the ipod, though not yet to that degree).

People will wait for the new iphone. Not everyone, but a huge number. And of those that don't, many will just get an iphone 3G because they don't know/care about the differences. Yes, Apple will lose some customers to Palm and others if their release isn't until mid-July, but not many, and better that than put out a product that isn't ready yet.

Exactly, the intern at our office just got the touch diamond from Sprint thinking it is/was the latest and greatest. I said "why didn't you wait for the Pre" and he responded "the what?". He is a pretty bright kid too.

I am suprised that there has not been any commercials on TV for the Pre, this would probably give them the boost, Sprint has the money for that too. Whoa sorry there, a little off track.

For the record: I don't think 3.0 will be released at WWDC, it will be the day the new iPhone is released. Hopefully soon after, but probably a month.

I agree, but they will probably not know the iPhone is coming out soon either. Anyone's who contract is up right now is just going to waltz into a cellphone store (maybe a couple) and see what's available. They'll get what's in their face and the cellphone salesman cons them into. (Just like that dude above who got one of those brand spankin new touch Diamonds).

If I know anything about Apple... it's this:

We like to think that we'll get something out of the keynote, but EVERY TIME we're disappointed that we have to wait about a month to get it. They just announce things at these WWDC things. I'm willing to bet that developers get another 3.0 beta shortly after the conference, but nothing will go out to the public. However, things may be different now without Steve Jobs so you never know... they could change it up this time and catch us all by surprise, but I'm not holding my breath at all. We'll get 3.0 when we get it and we're just going to have to accept that... just like we always have.

Right - so we can experience the same debacle we had last yesr.

The problem last year was with the iTunes activation servers being overloaded, it had nothing to do with the 2.0 OS. So given that, I don't see how releasing 3.0 and the new iPhone on the same day would affect one another.

They did release iTunes 8.2 with the only reason to support 3.0. So I think it might be closer then we think, maybe monday after the keynote.

But I wouldn't bet on it though.

Bring on iChat. I refuse to pay 16 bucks for Beejive. I've used it on my friend's phone and just... just... no.

I meant that you typed "yesr". I think you meant "year" but you must've typed it on your iPhone and didn't read it before you hit send. That's all I meant.

Actually, I probably typed that on my desktop PC! :D

I really do proof my posts before submitting them, but every once in a blue moon...ack!

No harm, no foul, my friend.
