I already know it'll be worth whatever price Apple chooses to charge for it.

What would be your cut-off? If it was like that expensive Apple Watch and it turns out the iPhone X is a limited edition and costs $10,000, would you still buy it?

I’m swaying to the 8+ can’t really justify an extra £200 on a smaller shape and an OLED. Never minded the bezels and I do actually like the plus size for my shovel hands.

People seem the X to be the better device on the price tag but the 8 and 8+ are well matured devices now and the new features will compliment it nicely.

It's not "a bit less", if the rumours are true it the iPhone 8 will cost a third less than the iPhone X.

So maybe $250 less? Ok that's a considerable difference for many people, but I am certain iPhone X is going to be sufficiently compelling that most people will find a way to get the extra money.

Tbh, I'm having a problem spending 1,000 for a phone that may last 2 years.

£1.36 per day. And that's not taking into account the cash you'll get when you sell it after two years.

Doesn't sound too bad to me considering how much I use my smartphone.

People spend many thousands on a car which spends the majority of its time sitting on a driveway/in a car park, so £1,000 for a top-of-the-range smartphone seems pretty cheap to me. Personally, I think Apple should charge £2,500+ for the iPhone X to make the iPhone 'exclusive' again as it once was. It should be the Range Rover of smartphones.

Let the masses enjoy the iPhone 8.

The iPhone 7 starts at $649, the iPhone X is rumored to cost around $1000 so it's probably at least $350. That's taking it past the point where it makes any sense to me. At the end of the day it's only a bloody smartphone. ;)

Let's wait and see. I don't think there's any chance I'll need to weigh up the merits of paying $10,000 for this. ;)

Well, thanks for playing along.

For what it's worth, I think my cut off would be £3,000. At least at that price there'd be less orders and you might actually get one this side of xmas.

Yes I agree with this assessment. For me, it means buying one less treat in the coffee house each day. And I get hours upon hours of enjoyment out of my iPhone each day. I think most of us can easily justify the relative daily expense of an iPhone X. But for sure, it is not unreasonable for people to be unwilling to spend that amount if it makes them uncomfortable.

I think calling it "only a bloody smartphone" is a massive disservice. :) In my eyes, it's an awesome Super Computer that fits into my pocket and is always with me.

I am absolutely unsure of what to do. Im currently on a 6S Regular and im considering every option because my phone contract is gonna be renewed this month, so i am due for a new phone. Maybe even just getting a iPhone 8 with the Contract, selling it immediately and just keep my 6S for another year or two. Its still running great.

Only you and few other suckers willing to pay €1000+ for being in the exclusive beta testers group...

Yes there is some appeal in making it a more exclusive device by charging far more. As you say, it'll lessen demand significantly and probably ensure those of us who want it will get it on day one.

I've often thought Apple should charge a launch day tax for those who want to lock in delivery of a new device on the first day.

Only Apple fans actually want products to be more expensive just so that they can feel elite for buying them!

You want to feel elite? You could brag to everyone about how much money you've donated to help hurricane victims, or some other charity of your choosing...
Not trying to preach, but come on!

Will just have to wait and see. I came from an Android phone and basically got 4 years out of it before it got wonky.

I bought my iPhone 6 on launch day. It has been pretty darn reliable to this point. But it is a 3 year phone and I do notice some performance issues from time to time with it. I could probably squeeze another year out of it.

But I am looking to buy this year more than in the last couple of years. Just will have to see if the price/performance/features will be worth the upgrade $$ for me.

Well, as someone who has owned an Android phone since 2010, I wouldn't call myself an Apple fan, so try again.

When was any iPhone ever “exclusive”. For 10 years or so I’ve seen them in the hands of people from all walks of life.

If you want the best, you have to pay for it. If you are happy to pay a bit less for a compromised experience, I'm happy for you.

It is iPhone X for me. I already know it'll be worth whatever price Apple chooses to charge for it.
'Compromised experience' for what is still a flagship level phone is an interesting way of putting it

I respect your opinion but "may" last two years is ridiculous. The A11 is rumored to be a 6 core CPU + who knows what the GPU looks like. The 2500k desktop CPU is still relevant today and we are entering into a 6 core CPU on a mobile device. That is crazy.

And I respect your opinion that two years shouldn't be the limit, but I must disagree. I used to upgrade every two years. This time I waited. I've run up against the wall of a rapidly changing world. My three-year-old iPhone (6+) works perfectly, except as a phone. It doesn't do Extended Range LTE, so in my current location I'm stuck with one bar of 2G service most of the time.

We know 600 MHz LTE is already being implemented. What's next? The pace of progress hasn't slowed down.

I'll get the iPhone X or whatever it's called. If you're going to buy a new phone, you might as well spend good money on the real thing instead of a gimped cheaper version. It's like those people who buy a Porsche Boxster or Cayman. They've purposely spent money of something purposely designed to not be very good so it doesn't tread on the toes of the most expensive model.
Not sure you know anything about Porsche. Boxster/Cayman runs $75k-$85k and are fantastic machines; not junky 911 knockoffs.

Already planning to order an 8+ on Friday morning. Looking forward to having a new phone in hand in a week and a half.

Love the Porsche reference. I am like you. Most likely, >90%, going to get the X or whatever they decide to call it. I am a techie that always has to have the latest and greatest stuff. I am finally on the every year plan and plan on buying the latest and greatest every year unless I don't like what I see. Now if only I could afford a lambo or maza, I would be set. :D:)
