I think a redesign of the speakers is in order... Or perhaps I'm the only one who gets random pieces of junk in the tiny speaker holes...

Agreed... And I can't seem to blow or vacuum that crap out.

Pixels pixels pixels

The only thing I would like to see is a hi-res 15". I have a PowerBook G4 (aluminum) and I actually have 60 extra vertical pixels then all of the MBP. For some reason the added width did not add extra pixels, so despite having a larger diagnal (15.4 vs 15) there are fewer pixels (PB 1440 x 960, MBP 1440 x 900). So I would like to be able to upgrade to a MBP without loosing any pixels. Otherwise I love the current design. I will be very sad if the change the keyboard, I think the MBP/PBG4 keyboards are so much sleeker in both look and feel then the chicklets.

I'm surprised none of you have commented on how much the Macbook Pro design has been used in Media and such, even with the apple logo (or taken off in some cases)

About 5 Commercials, especially those dealing with internet services or computer accessories
Zoey 101 (Nick show, Macbook pro and macbook design featured)
iCarly (i mean...yeah...the name should give it away, also utilizes Macbook pro design I think (or MB) )
27 Dresses (Macbook Pro, scene with presentation)
Transformers (Used 2x 30' Cinema display during multiple scenes)

I'll keep thinking because I know i'm leaving out a few.

I would like a redesign. I would like to see it take a lot of the Air's design queues. The chiclet keyboard I hated until I actually used it. Now I prefer it.

I want the oversized multitouch trackpad. Perhaps some of the more pointy Air design choices.

I would love to see it move to anodized black.

Who knows what they will do. But regardless everyone will hate it at first and then love it.

WRONG!! You aren't really wrong, but I just want to say that this is the case of "changing the design for design sake" and not something that was needed.

I think the Air has a distinctive look that can't be messed with. Apple would prove to the world that it's just like Dell if they take a design from another line and use it for something else. Yes make the trackpad larger, even though the current one does MT just fine. NO, don't give me plastic square keys because they are awful, and when you put key covers on them they are even worse.

Absolutely NO air design choices unless they ADD to the functionality of the book.

Maybe, I get you, I get stuff in my grill as well, but that only happens to me when my books is pushing 2 years old, and has been to hell and back. AFAIC the MBP hold up pretty well, and dust in the grill is the least of my problems when I am using it in some weird places.

If there is to be a redesign, then bring it on, but only if it's for the purpose of adding more HARDWARE into the mix, (check the signature below). The book is nice, but no PRO desktop replacement it is. It replaces an iMac, but not anything else.

Redesign the case so that we can get dual HDDs, more FW800 ports, eSATA ports, and at least a magnetic latch in the thing, not because we want a new cute little laptop to show off to our friends.

Where exactly do you expect the second HDD to fit? Sure I can see a 1.8" drive at the most, but not another standard 2.5"

I hope it changes and it has to evolve in some way. I guess most of the people want it the same because that's the status quo and Apple in the other hand, I bet has some great MBP prototypes  .

Remember the G3 iMac? Well a lot of people liked it and were comfortable and almost nobody imagined that G3 would evolve to the great iMac we have now. The people who imagined this new iMac clearly worked for apple ;) .

The point is that we may want it to stay the same but at the end of the day Apple just keeps surprising us with new ideas that most likely we will like.

"It's not about pop culture, and it's not about fooling people, and it's not about convincing people that they want something they don't. We figure out what we want. ... "So you can't go out and ask people, you know, what the next big [thing.] There's a great quote by Henry Ford, right? He said, 'If I'd have asked my customers what they wanted, they would have told me "A faster horse." ' "

That's Steve Jobs talking about their success and some way relates to what I'm trying to say.

Well,
I didnt mean the color of the keyboard to change, but the layout. I am glad I can use my bluetoothed one at home, but on the road i could need a better layout with bigger keys (but the german is a different one)...

btw
I just see the 9600m gt is out, maybe the next in the MBPs?

Let's just say that if they don't do a single thing to the design of the the MBP, I'd be totally happy.

But they may bring something new and amazing to the table.

There really isn't much wrong with the current design. I think rounding off the edges may be a little neat (like the first black one you have), but that may be an issue with the logic board.

I think the latch needs some decent work. Multiple magnetic points of contact would keep the thing from warping a little like mine has. It's maybe 2mm on the end, but it's a little annoying.

Maybe next year, they could ditch the ethernet port and give us another USB port. I may be jumping the gun on this by a few years, but I hardly every use mine. I'm pretty sure PCI Express cards have ethernet ports, so it can be an option. Of course all the MBPs we have at work are put on a wired Internet, but we work in a 10-years-ago time warp.

An easy-access hard drive would be nice. I wouldn't mind easier access to the optical drive since I plan on popping a Blu-ray drive in here once they're available and cheap enough.

I don't want them to change it. Why? Because it would be clear I own an old model!

As other users say, the only issue with the current one is are getting dirt in the speaker grille, but then again they do look nice...

I think they should leave it as it is. Perfection should not be messed with:) I wouldn't mind seeing it in black, however.

"Hidden Potential" on HGTV, though they've recently started covering the logo with a silver sticker, which oddly enough still shows the apple logo's outline through the cover up.

I think the Macbook Pro design is great! It is actually one of the reasons why I didn't bother to wait and see if there would be a new model, I'm not a fan of the MBA keyboard.

I think it would nice in black too though.

the current design of the macbook pro design is great. but it is also a tired design. you have to remember that apple considers themselves an artist just like most people that they sell computers to and when you keep things the same it becomes stale and boring. i wouldn't mind them taking the same design cues as the macbook air. the main problem that people have here are the keys. the black
keyboard that apple uses in the mba are better than the ones used on the macbook and a lot think better than the macbook pro. the black keys provide better contrast when backlit as compared to the silver keys of the macbook pro and provide better contrast outside in the sun without the silver keys shining outside in the sun back at you. i'm sure there were a lot of people complaining when they changed the keys from the titanium powerbook from black to silver. and also since when did anybody complain that black and silver don't go well together?

the design cues from mba i would like to see are:
-larger trackpad
-magnetic lid
-new magsafe power adapter
-aerodynamic shape
-rounded isight camera
-matte black feet underneath
-and yes the matte black keyboard

new things for the macbook pro that are not in mba:
-nvidia 9 series graphics card
-new 16:9 15.6" panels screens that are coming out
-better speakers

i love the current design.
but id rather have it more solid.stronger chassis...just stop the warping!
my macbook pro warps up at the super drive so that foot never quite touches the table.

i think alot of people here like the current design and dont want to see it changed is becasue they just bought a macbook pro and dont like seeing their piece of technology get outdated!
im one lol.

PB with black keyboard....

Switching to a different keyboard would have basically no cost to apple.

now that the consumer line is switching to aluminum...maybe apple should keep the case design but switch the pro lines to black annodized aluminum....silver has been dominant for a while...now it seems like black is the de facto premium color...(think amex centurion vs. the platinum charge card) :D

Yeah think of a Carbon fiber MBP vs a Aluminum MBP !
