Never in the history of MBP, PB, etc has there ever been a notebook with a black keyboard.

what about the PowerBook G4 titaniums

how do you get the dock to the left like that? just wondering

i have trouble deciding whether to buy the current gen mbp or the next one because i want a computer that will last 5 years but the current mbp feels flimsy. the corners are easy to dent and the keyboard gets loose after a while. i agree that the macbook air is the most sturdy out of the three notebooks. the keyboard is not painted unlike the mbp's and also the way it is designed (aerodynamically and no corners) makes it less likely to dent.

That's a beautiful photo of a Titanium book. I don't think I have ever seen it look that clear and good.

And yes, how do you get the dock on the left like in OS9.

There's a terminal command to do it or you can download tinkertools that will allow you to do that as well as many other nifty things.

the reason why the mba seems more durable is because they are using aluminum/steel mixture to strengthen the case

Non-warp latch, maybe a hi-def screen of some sort, a few MBAish styling touches, optional SSDs, chips of the month, some sort of blue ray provision, whatever multi-touch updates. This amounts to a lot of stuff and worthwhile.

What I'd like to see at some point, and which would get me to trade up from my present just-fine MBP, a pivoting or removable screen for page views and a cool-running fuel cell battery that did not leave burn marks when I work in my shorts.

And, of course, connectivity from anywhere, anytime.

there's no way that the next update is coming next year. montevina is a significant update and the mbp is the flagship laptop. you cannot have the most expensive laptop having extra hardware features like a larger trackpad and stronger case.

Throw me a bone, Apple

Can I just get a maglatch, please? I'm so confused as to why that wasn't part of the slight upgrade earlier this year. Since everything else is already on maglatch, it wouldn't seem like a terribly complicated update to make?

What? What does a large trackpad have to do with expense? I think the trackpad is pretty big already, it's bigger than most PC's trackpads. (if not all)
Also, I think the case is pretty strong. I read a thread on here a while ago about a guy who ran over his MBP with a car and it still worked, the case was only bent a little.

Also, the latch on the MBP is a partial maglatch. The clips swing down via a magnet when it gets close to closing, play with your lid and you will see it.

Ok guys I am a girl and I think the desing that we currently have for de MBP is great is unisex and it looks professional at the same time, if they change something i think it would be a huge mistake I hope they don't do anything to it because i just got one !!! ;)

lol im willing to say theyll updat the look in the nxt round of updates.
probably november or october, just before the holiday season.
motevina is due in july, but apple will need to make their own version of the chipset to fit their macbook case and their custom config...happened with penryn last time

@ bebetc & teknikal90 the design update is inevitable but i think it will still look similar to the current MBP design kind of like the 3G iPhone to the first iPhone. Apple will make it sleeker and prepare it for the future just like they did for the PowerBook G4's design.

here is what our beautiful MBP look like with black on the keys, not bad, just not too subtle.

There is no subtle change, its just silver, THEN BLACK.

it looked good to me in person, but i sent the protector back.

I hope they don't change the keyboard of the MBP to what the MB/MBA have. I can't stand typing on those things.

I do, however, like the mockup of the MBP with the same keyboard it currently has but with a touchscreen trackpad. I'd be willing to pay for it.

Aesthetically I like the current design, even the trackpad really is big enough. The keyboard is fine, designwise and responsively. Round slightly the top edge where the palmrest and palms/wrists come in contact - the sharpish edge has bugged me slightly. It would be nice if the user surfaces (keyboard/palmrest, etc. were actually metal and not colored plastic. The textured paint on the keys, especially the spacebar seems to wear faster than I'd like, but I am a prolific typist so maybe that's asking a bit much.

It's a pro model - so make the hard drive user accessible for upgrades, like the A series IBM Thinkpads. One screw, pull the side latch and out she comes, remove hd from carrier (four screws,) replace w/ new drive, insert into laptop, one screw (can use a coin) and you're done. Also, some design that would allow the optical drive bay to be upgraded with newer drives, like blueray or faster drives in the future. IBM had this feature on their pro-laptops for years called the ultrabay 2000, and tons of peripherals could be swapped out there, including extra battery. Since it's a "pro" machine, and Apple is looking at penetrating the enterprise market, don't worry about making it thinner, just make it more durable, and easily serviced by IT departments with quick-replace parts (more modular.)

Also, a HD variant on the 15.4" model.

Finally, perhaps a redesign on the hinge mechanism to allow the screen to be tilted back at a more radical angle.

So, to summarize.... make it tougher, more modular for user/IT upgrades, HD and better hinge angles. No chicklet keyboards, default model remains matte display, slightly softened edges, maintain minimalist design.

Maybe they'll just release the MBP in Carbon fiber *dreaming*

I hope they dont, I loved the sony vaio tz that I used to own as well but I was constantly afraid of dropping it even more so than my mbp. Also I heard horror stories of carbon fiber easily cracking(due to heat especially where I live in Texas) and shattering.

I rather have a dented aluminum mbp than a shattered one.
