'..Exactly the same as the current design except with an ugly black keyboard in the middle. Never in the history of MBP, PB, etc has there ever been a notebook with a black keyboard.

Erm..

A little research goes along way, and I'm not even (yet) a Mac user ;)

(dammit, I was beaten twice :()

I think the case is lovely as it is, very minimalist and stylish and yet utilitarian and practical.. Still don't know how they've done it. I think my favourite design feature has either to be the fact the fans take in through the keyboard and out of the back thus avoiding any fans on the bottom, or MagSafe. Awesome machine, I look forward to buying one :)

What is this, a troll?

You post blatantly incorrect information ("never in the history..."), criticize a number of decent looking mock-ups, and then post the most hidious mockup picture imaginable and claim that THAT is what Apple is most likely to do?

You're clearly playing us for laughs.

Current one with new keyboard and 1680 panel pls!

I want the 1680 res LCD, but the keyboard is the best part of the MBP. The chicklet keyboard is really bad. Try writing a 150+ page thesis on it, and you'll hate the MacBook's keyboard. My old Powerbook keyboard was far better.

A carbon fiber MBP 17" with a WUXGA panel, SSDs, 8GB RAM support, and weighs 3 pounds? Yeah I'll pay $6000 for it.

What dissipates heat better, aluminium or carbon fibre? ;)

MBP Needs a Few Improvements

The basic MBP design is great but it really needs to catch up to the MacBook and the Air in a few areas:

1. Magnetic latch. I hate the current one.

2. Magnetic power cord like on the macbook (or do the new pros have this already?)

3. Bigger track pad (like the Air).

4. More stability. It's easy to dent the MBP and it seems more prone to minor breakage than the macbook (maybe because the macbook is designed for students to abuse).

The design of the MBP hasn't been updated in a long time, and it's weird that Apple's top of the line laptop doesn't have some of the new features that the cheaper (or smaller) models have. If you're going to pay that much more for a MBP you should get all the features of the other ones, plus more.

I'm typing this on my Dell Vostro, but I think the MacBook Pro is clearly the best-looking laptop on the market today. I agree that there's no real need for a redesign. I'll get one as soon as Apple cuts the price in half! ;)

I love the look of the MacBook Pro, and though I at first preferred the MacBook-style keyboard, after using my girlfriend's for a while I really prefer the current Pro's keyboard by far. The only changes I'd like to see are for Apple to make it a bit stronger, make the memory and hard drive as easy to get to as they are in the MacBook, and to give us a magnetic latch.

What I really hope they DON'T do is to give it a black keyboard, especially if it's the chiclet-style of the MacBook.

I think any new model will be thinner.

Seeing as it's the flagship for Apple PCs, I have no doubt they've spend 100's of hours coming up with the best design.

if they could at least design the chassis so you can pull out the hard drive from the battery bay like the macbook...

i wonder how they can top the design now...other than borrowing aspects of the Air.

I don't think it needs to be thinner. Making it thinner means sacrificing something, like we are already doing now with the current design (but it's okay). Making it thinner means less cooling and hotter laps, and less connectivity and more hubs.

The current thickness hasn't even been matched by the comp, especially in the 17" realm. The only aspect from the Air I would stand seeing is the large trackpad, but I hope they keep the one big button big, and not thin like the Air's. That and the magnetic latch and everything else can stay specifically Air.

Anything extra would be cosmetic and not necessary.

I just posted about how I made my wife wait to buy, in case the MBP is updated, but I have no complaint with the current design. I can't think of any functional change I'd want -- except if they could make it run cooler.

There are cosmetic changes that might be interesting -- carbon fiber or Texallium case, or something like that, but I really find the current design elegant and classic. I find the design elements of the Pro more appealing than those of the Air, so I don't want to see them go in that direction.

imo, the trackpad will stay at the same size. the size is perfect, any bigger, it'll be touching your palm and making the pointer move in random directions when you're typing. i hope apple change the keyboard to something similar to the ones on the macbook air, but keeping the colour the same. maybe mbp will be offered in two different colours: black and aluminum.

Well, that would mean it was even more dentable unless they find some stronger materials for the inner bracing.

I agree with the some of you that saids that the mba/macbook's chicklet style keyboard is nice to use BUT I still think the mbp's keyboard is much nicer overall to use.

For the size of the mba the keyboard works really well but still cant match the keyboard of the mbp.

Also I noticed that on my brother's 2 and a half year old macbook's chicklet keyboard that the keyboard looks like it has wore out and just seems beat up and not as aligned. But on the other hand my friend's 4 year old powerbook's keyboard still looks and feels like its brand new. =D

I am with you. The MBP keyboard is just to PRO to be taken away and made into a plastic chiclet thing.

I have used the new ones, and the wireless and wired keyboard and it is nice, but the MBP keyboard is just fine the way it is.

If Apple does change it then so be it, I will adapt and cope, but I am never going to say that the square plastic keys are nicer to use.

I like the current design, nothing on the PC has been able to come close after all these years. I had the same keyboard on my old PB 12" and I think it's the best laptop keyboard out there. Maybe putting the MBA trackpad in would be better, not sure, haven't used the MBA's.

1. Remove the plastic trip where the aluminum panels meet up. Make the panels one piece and round off the edges like the bottom of the case.

2. Replace the magnetic lid latches with the system in the MB, MBA. I think apple would have already made this change with the Penryn release, maybe the 15 and 17 screens are too large for the latch-less design?

Overall, these subtle changes would make the MBP look even cleaner.

I think the MBP is great the way it is. Leave the keyboard alone, although I like the feel of the MB keyboard, it looks cheap. The only changes I would like to see would be in the case design itself. Perhaps a little closer to the MBA shape (only thicker) without sacrificing any functionality.

2. Magnetic power cord like on the macbook (or do the new pros have this already?)

Yes it does. Had it for a while now since they changed it with the switch to Intel.

Overall, these subtle changes would make the MBP look even cleaner.

Agreed. If there is not going to be a complete overhaul for the sake of HARDWARE IMPROVEMENTS then all changes should be subtle and for the sake of cleaning things up.

Needs a major upgrade. Thats why I bought a MB about a month ago.
Get functionally the same computer for 500-700 less and its more durable.
By this I mean that imo 75%+ of those who got a MBP don't need it.

True. As of now I consider the MBA the strongest Mac laptop, then the MB, then the Mac Book Pro being the least durable.

And yes, most people get the MBP simply because it has a larger screen, which isn't entirely bad, but they won't get to use or experience some of things that separate it from the Mac Book.

I want the MBP to be changed drastically so buyers (besides mac geeks, like us:D) will put forth the cash to buy it.

The current MBP is a bit 1970s modular looking--large expansive slabs, and square features. The MBA is a bit more 1990s Pismo curvy looking. I'd like to see the look freshened and tightened a bit, maybe something a bit curvier and more muscle like--but certainly nothing garish like Dell/Alienware.

I wished the mbp gets the mba's trackpad but hope apple keeps the clicker the same (thick). When I had the MBA the trackpad size was nice but the clicker was too thin and wasn't satisfying as the mbp's clicker as well. The mba's clicker is too thin and the MacBooks clicker is springy/clunky/cheap and so far the mbp's clicker feels perfect.
