Regarding the "theme" item, changing your background image significantly alters the overall theme of the OS. Because there is a level of translucence to most items, the color palette of the wallpaper can completely change the feel and emotion of the design. It is quite spectacular, actually.

THat does sound exciting and very personal. But doesn't negate the fact that the icon designs are horribly executed.

Wow, all this from the first beta for a product that wont be released until the fall.

I used it for like an hour and went back.

I love the new features, it's about time we got android like features. I like the way we can get to them too.

(I switched from a Nexus to iPhone 5 when it came out, after having switched to an iPad in March of 2012 from a Xoom, and OS X from Linux in Dec/Jan of 11/12, I really missed some android stuff dearly but iOS was better for me, so was the eco-system)

The settings, features etc remind me of Jellybean, and that's OK, some of the stuff feels a little more complicated like android (just more stuff to tap on to do stuff).

I hate the way it looks. I think Google did a way better 'flat' design styling. Sure, it may have been time to drop the textured and inconsistent areas, I agree with that. And sure, why not update it to feel more modern if you want to, though, the whole feel of it now sucks to me. It's cartoony, you can do white space and relief space without shoving it down someone's throat. I like relief space to add contrast and shift focus to where the eye should be, here it all kind of gets lost together. You can do flat without being cartoon too.

It seems like a lot of design just for the sake of design. I mean really, re-doing the sharing arrow (or 'sharrow' as I like to call it) but leaving the icons like that? It's a little baffling. Also, without shadowing or stroking the text for the app icon names, they get lost in the background.

Seriously, think about this, what if Apple just compiled android for their hardware, added an iOS emulator and were done? It'd look just like this except you'd be able to change their ridiculous icons and adjust the theme to your liking.

I personally think apple has a history of "toy-looking" products and simple OS's that could be perceived as "toy-like". That colorful, plastic iMac, colorful iPods, iOS 6 looks "kiddish" and who cares? My phone is in fact a "tool" in one sense but at the same time it's a big-kid TOY for me... So is the iPad.... sure it's a "reader" for my wife but simply a "fun browser" (i.e. toy) too.

In short, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

To me, it looks kiddy and childish. Reminiscent of Fisher-Price colors and design. The new default font is thin, stick-like, and hard to read, especially against many backgrounds.

The whole look-and-feel seems more at home on a LeapPad, not an iPad.

What is a shame is that the features look great – the updated notifications, the control center, the photos categorization, AirDrop, all that. Much more modern.

But you’d never know it from the candy coating.

Wow - it's like you don't know how beta's work!

The look and feel is done. It is baked-in. In all my years of beta testing/developing for Apple I cannot ever recall significant changes to look and feel during the beta program. Even when I've reported legitimate bugs to radar, provided unit tests detailing the bugs they haven't been fixed to version X.0.1.

Beta's are not sounding boards, they are not alpha's, they are there purely for stability improvements and bug fixes.

I think iOS 7 looks great. More sleek, and modern. I'm diggin the brighter colors and hues. I'm obviously the minority here.

The general feeling is the other companies have the flat OS better than Apple.

Not many seem to like the colouring.

Is it just me or are you always trolling on the forums saying how apple sucks. I looked at your history and it seems that's all your contribution is.

You say you are a developer, what do you develop?

It is you. Seriously.

Are you a complete idiot? You're asking a developer - in an open forum no less - to name himself with regards to commenting about a private beta?

They said it would be polarizing. It sure seems that comment was absolutely right.

The only think I hate and I will. Bitch about is the dock I'm gonna miss the iOS 4-6 dock it was just cleaner and you could see your full background now however the dock has wheat back to the iOS 1-3 days just with out the metal grate background now it's just matted an I hate it

I view the change with mixed emotions. On the one hand, it needed updating, and things like control center and the like were long overdue.

That said, it does look a lot more like a droid phone than an Apple phone. It could be a good thing, given some of my droid user friends said they now plan to buy an iPhone for their next phone.

I don't know. This is a bit bittersweet for me, because Apple is moving away from the Jobs/Forstall era into the Cook/Ive era. iOS had become stale over the years, but I still think it was far better than Android. It just felt like a premium product. Sure, some parts of it were a little cheesy, but I feel the same way about iOS 7.

I know how betas work and the look and feel is not done.

Give me a minute and I can make up phony 'developer' credentials, too.

It will be 5 years after Steve job's death that products will be directed by Cook. Steve planned out all updates and devices until 2016.

I really would like people to specify whether they've installed it and used it before commenting.

I've just downgraded. In my opinion it looks amateurish and unbalanced with a distinct lack of refinement. I suspect while there will be some who try it and like it the majority of the posters defending the new look are only going my youtube walkthroughs and the keynote.

I agree, at least with respect to the home screen. I don't care for the Fisher Price color theme. Ignoring that (how can you?), the icons are poorly done and they blend in with the background of many photo wallpapers. The new font is much more difficult to read as well.

I downgraded last night.

I agree. Two days in and I'm still trying not to puke. I love Apple and just feel let down. I know they don't cater to my needs, but I didn't know they wanted to cater to the Care Bears bright colorful, gradients, plus stencil icons.... ugh.

I have it installed and I like it. I actually like it more today than 2 days ago.

People are always much more likely to voice their displeasure than say they like or enjoy something. Especially on the internet.

Everyone is crying about the look of a handful of apps, most without even trying iOS7. Meanwhile ,those of us actually using it are enjoying all the new features most of these same folks have been crying about not having !
