Honestly, iOS 6 feels cheaper to me, it just shouts tacky whenever you see it, 7 has a much more thoughtful and elegant design regardless of colours, and there are no odd bits of UI like the iOS 5 phone pad etc.

I much prefer the current iOS 6 home screen look and feel. It just makes my iPhone feels like a premium device, I really like it. I can definitely appreciate the new multitasking, upgrade on Safari, and also the control switchers. But the design seems like a major downgrade... Anyone else feels the same way?

Your screen shot looks like a cheap toy. It's a busy, cluttered mess.

iOS 7 looks much sleeker, modern, and elegant. Everything about it is very classy compared to the cheap-looking iOS 6 and earlier.

Personally I don't have favourites. Both iOS 6's and iOS 7's design have good and bad points.

iOS 6 does look out dated. I have been using iPhone since iPhone 1 and when I saw those icons leaked before the keynote I was pinching myself in shock. Let's face it, those icons were not what all of us were expecting when we heard "flat" from leaks and what not. However, when the keynote was showing iOS 7, the icons went into place perfectly. Though I do have reservations about certain icons I feel overall the icons work.

Icons aside, I like the new features they've added, copied or not. The transparency theme is also great and the addition of animations into the whole OS gives it a more modern feel.

What I like about the old design is it DID feel premium. It was one of the reasons I bought the iPhone in the first place. I think some of the skeuomorphism could have stayed in iOS 7 as that was what you could argue the "soul" of the OS.

For better or worse iOS 7 is here to stay and I am sure things will be altered to improve upon the design.

Pre-WWDC:

"Apple better update the iOS UI. It's old".

Post-WWDC:

"iOS 7 is horrible, I hate it, my life isn't worth living, I now have a toy".

Hah, yeah I was one that complained it needed a refresh but that doesn't by any means say that I just wanted some different low res over saturated Easter basket setup. I think it's fair to complain. Man you must be a great employee, never complain about anything new.

Cheap toy?? Not even close. The old iOS certainly did though.

iOS 7 looks clean, classy, elegant, and modern.

Some of the icons aren't the best, but the keyboard, menus, control panel, notifications, app switcher, Safari tabs, new Calendar, basically all of the stock apps... They all look and feel great. iOS 6 now officially feels like an outdated turd.

It's you, from your screenshot, I'd say it looks as horrible as Windows and Myspace. Too much going on. I prefer the new cleaner, fresh and modern look of iOS 7 over iOS 6. Looking back at iOS 6 just looks extremely outdated now.

While I agree that iOS 6 is dated..

iOS 7 is absolutely not a cleaner, fresh and modern look.

Flat UI can be done beautifully to look modern, this just looks plain and boring. I am shocked and disappointed.

OP, i see where you're coming from and i agree that the new UI makes the iPhone lose it's individuality.
Thank god for jailbreaking!

Let's just hope that they do a much better job once they decide to update Mac OS X.

I don't see a problem. People were hoping that they would get something they would like, instead they hate it. What can one do.

A single screenshot has nothing to do with the improvements.

People on the internet don't like anything. If Apple didn't change the look, people would complain (just like every year). Now that they've listened to the people and changed it, the idiots still complain. People are just ridiculous.

Much like Apple. But seriously, when the new design plans were announced, people probably imagined some sort of new look in their head. That didn't materialize. Now many of the find the look "childish", too pastel, "feels like a cheap toy" etc. So what.

Ultimately, all this probably won't matter much. Or will significantly: the stock market isn't really thrilled and the internet, even forums like this, who are full of Apple devotees, hates it in good measure:

Sorry, AAPL stock isn't down because some people don't like the app icons in iOS 7. The Dow is down almost 1% today, Nasdaq down over 1%. Both Google and Amazon are down over 1% just like Apple. All these headlines about iOS backlash are just good click bait. Pretty hard to have a backlash when a very small percentage of iOS users even have access to the software. The media is inventing one based on a screen shot of app icons.

I feel like there needed to be two themes. The problem with the current design is that it suits a white iPhone more than a black iPhone.

They should have gone with two themes or simply a theme that fit both. Right now there is way too much white.

You're all bitching about it being horrible, but you're still here bitching about it. It's like you're waiting on someone to convince you otherwise. If you don't like it, buy a new phone and move on with life. It's not worth all of this.

It's worth it if it influences change before the release. This will be my phone - I hold Apple to a higher standard than this schlock.

The emperor is naked. Deal with it.

But are the people b**ching here actually communicating this to Apple? My guess is not. My guess is most of them aren't developers and aren't testing the beta software.

Wow you're in denial if you think the stock market responds to nerds on a forum whining about icons haha.

Eventually the design language for iOS 7 is gonna be transferred to OS X

The same customers who don't want a pastel homescreen are gonna be the same ones who won't want a pastel desktop

Good luck Mr Ive

You just don't like change. Your background is ugly and your home screen looks like a complete mess. I'm glad Mr. Ives didn't consult you when re-designing the iOS 7 interface.

It will be 5 years after Steve job's death that products will be directed by Cook. Steve planned out all updates and devices until 2016.

I can promise you, iOS 7 would not look like this is Steve were still alive, and Forestall would still be heading the iOS team. So that's a bit false.

I have also read that while he left 4 years worth of products in the pipeline, the iPhone 5 was the last thing he worked on before his death, the other things were just in the planning stages. Cook already made the company his when he dumped Forestall and shook up the management.

Agree, with Forestall gone it marks the end/trace of Steve on iOS; for all whe know those "4 years worth of product" were trashed.
