Or do what I did - slap a saddle brown leather case on it and carry that sucker around for six months.

That's a good looking case.

Why do I have my phone out on dates?
Selfies bro.
I'm not usually doing selfies on a first date. By then I still haven't decided whether I want to know her more or even remember her. Some are cool on the first date, and the psycho comes out later.
I give it a while before there's any pictures of us together.
I would think that if you haven't determined whether she thinks you're phone makes you look girly, that it's too early to be interested in having pictures together or memories made.
If it's only to take pictures of yourself with her to brag to your friends, I haven't ever done that. So that falls into a whole different category.

If you personally think something is too feminine for you, that's your right. But why on earth would you care what someone else thinks? It's pretty sad that people would consider not buying something because of what a stranger might think. If someone judged me on the colour of my phone, they're irrelevant to me.
I have the matte black but I think the red iPhone looks great. Shame it has a white front and not red or black.
I remember with the first generation iPhones that there were lots of threads from guys asking if their white iPhones made them look gay.
Personally, if the phone I wanted only came in one color, I wouldn't give it a second thought. Even if it were hot pink.
If it comes in multiple colors, just buy what you like.
My phones have typically been black or grey. I think I remember having a yellow one once. I usually just say what model phone I want and take what they hand me. I've never asked for a specific color or rejected a color. I'm good with whatever they set on the counter.
The nice thing about black though, is that it usually is basic looking, and doesn't readily announce what phone I have. So it keeps the interest level pretty low if I pull my phone out in front of someone. I'd rather nobody care what I'm carrying, as it makes theft less of a thought.
