I've had every iphone since the first one in 2007. That being said, I have now switched to the Galaxy s3 and couldn't be happier.

Most of the hate aimed at Android phones stems from unshakable Apple fanboyism. People are afraid that there $400 iPhone is no longer the best product on the market, and rightfully so.

In my opinion, the various problems with the 5 are unacceptable and are completely at odds with the Apple 'quality' that I have come to appreciate.

I haven't had any of these new issues. The only real issues I've had have been with the maps program. But even those issues I feel like got fixed quickly.

Before iOS 6 and the new iPhone, everything was great. After updating to iOS 6, my battery life has been cut in half (yes I've explored every option to fix it) and my bookmarks are stuck in sync so that I can't edit or delete them, nor can I add to my reading list...
(EDIT: for the record, I have an iPhone 4 currently)

I want the new iPhone and my upgrade is in the next month, but am cautious of buying a phone with a flawed camera and possibly a weaker than normal aluminum casing. I'm hoping these issues are worked out soon and that there will be an iOS update VERY soon. Never had an issue until this year, and I've owned an iPhone since the 3GS came out.

Anyone else frustrated and feel the same way? I wish there was another phone manufacturer I could go to and rely on, which makes it even harder to leave Apple. Just my thoughts in case anyone is interested!

The iPhone 5 is a major improvement over the 4s! I am loving mine!

Im sorry, but where are you getting your info? 8 megapixels = 8 megapixels???

and the faster aperture, yes faster than the iphone 4s, but not than the competition from other brands??

Reminds me of that commercial where the girls said "it must be true because I read it on the internet, and they aren't allowed to say anything thats not true" lol

Megapixels are not the actual resolution, they are just the upper limit of resolution. The lens is what delivers a given resolution, and the iPhone's competitor's cameras have lenses that have half the resolution of the iPhone's.

The Galaxy S3 has a 0.2 f stop narrower aperture than the iPhone 5.

But seriously why even bother with people who think they know what they're talking about and make decisions on which peice of tech is better based on lack of understanding and gossip.

I am not moving on from Apple, but just might wait out the latest iPhone to see what comes next from Apple. They certainly won't want to go through what just happened. Weird that the Apple design team wins an award and then things go bust with the iphone design parameters. Almost as bad as Obama curiously winning the Nobel Peace Prize a few months into the presidency and then he starts snuffing out terrorists from the air, including one American born.

The Galaxy S3 intrigues me, but the screen makes me think twice. I want colors to look natural, not overblown, and I want white to be white, not bluish. I also have concerns about how the plastic buttons on the side and home button will hold up. From past experience with Motorola and HTC Android phones, they just seem to gain many bugs weeks into using them. I don't understand how they just pop up over time for no reason. Android has always interested me though.

The quality of the hardware was what kept me with apple since their OS was always boring (jailbreaking fixed that for me). Now I can't even say that about the hardware. These new iPhone 5's coming out of a brand new box look worse than my two year old iPhone 4.

Now's probably a good time for me to try an android device and see what they have to offer and see what apple does next year or the following year with iPhone 6.

I've got my eye on the Note 2, One X+, and maybe the Nexus.

I know there is no way around it. but the news just pisses me off. I am constantly hearing people under the impression that the iphone 5 is plagued with problems. "the camera is all purple and unusable and the case falls apart if touched". Yet not 1 of the people "pitying me" for having an iPhone 5 has even held one in their hands.

"oh i heard it on the news". The iPhone 5 is a blockbuster success so mainstream media want to piggyback onto that by dramatizing non-issues. I see the "purple haze" in pictures on facebook ALL DAY LONG from all sorts of different android phones. Its not an iPhone issue its a DIGITAL CAMERA SENSOR issue. If you point at the sun you will get the purple haze yet somehow its just an iphone 5 problem.

I have had my black 64gb iPhone 5 protected by nothing but a bumper since launch day and there is not a scratch on it! don't take keys and knives to it I treat it like what it is, an $800 piece of electronics! I put it in my pocket and make sure I have no keys or change or even my wallet in the same pocket. I don't know whats so hard about that. Oh I just spent a grand on this lets just throw it anywhere.

Now there are people on these forums posting threads just like this one without having witnessed any of these issues themselves based on the other posts by the same guy that has returned 50 phones because he has a magnifying glass and white gloves out everytime he gets a new one. Its a phone. its fantastic and the best phone I have ever used. If you don't want that pleasure then don't buy it but stop making assumptions based on experiences that aren't your own.

Agreed, but once again - what can you expect from the company which manufacturers tens of millions of units every quarter? Apple is not some miraculous company. It's impossible to avoid flaws and imperfections when making products on a huge scale at a minimum cost by minimum wage paid chinese workers. Apple is very good company in terms of marketing it's image and it's products, but behind all of this is just a regular company that struggles with quality control due to overwhelming demand for it's toys. Thank god they have no questions asked return or exchange policy during the first 14 days of purchase.

Glad you had a good experience. Many others are NOT. So you believe this is just one big world conspiracy to stop people from buying the iPhone? These issues are real and are happening at a higher rate than they should. Sorry some of us don't settle for exchanging phones 5 times to find one without knicks, bends, or higher purple haze/flare than found on other devices. Some of us, when we spend so much money on a device, expect it to be in pristine condition the first time, without going through the hassle of exchange and disappointment and setting up new phone each time. You can say everything has been dandy for you, but denying that these issues are happening at a much higher rate than normal would be ignorant.

Ill refrain from the proverb "the grass is always greener".. No phone is/will ever be perfect. Besides, where is there to turn? Droid?

The Galaxy S3 is the only one that interests me. Also ready to see what the new Nexus phones will bring. Motorola Atrix 2 couldn't match up well to my iPhone, and HTC burned me on two different phones with killer bugs, bad battery life, and horrible cell signal.

If you tried Android before and didn't like it, I doubt you will like it now as it hasn't changed much and the software foundation is the same. The things you mention like bad battery life is common with most android phones. Samsung basically tried to copy the iPhone for the most part with the S3. Why would you want a copy over the original?

If you do your research, you can get an amazing Android device. And you may be shocked to find that a lot of the fears and "issues" of Android are incredibly overblown or flat out do not exist.

There's a world to discover with Android, especially with today's Android. Most of the issues that people fear are issues of Android from yesteryears.

I made the switch after the 4S to the Nexus and have never been happier. The functionality and usability of Android is phenomenal. Customization does not mean just aesthetics. It also means the phone's usability is catered to your specific needs and style. Choice of keyboards, choice of browsers, choice of what lock screen you see when you wake your device... it all adds to the experience of making the device uniquely yours.

And it's a wonderful feeling. Do your research and give it a shot. THe only regret you may have is not having done so sooner.

I totally agree, I went the other way and grabbed the i5, had it for a little over 24 hours and had to go back to the Nexus. (From an S to a Gnex)

I have to say, aside from the Nexus devices, there is a lot of crap out there.

Android earned a bad rap early, jelly bean has nullified a lot of the ux issues but it will still take time to turn the every day iphone users's opinion.

Personally, I've moved on from iPhone and whilst there's some things I miss, there's a lot I'm enjoying. A lot of my friends have also moved from iPhone recently and I know a lot more who are seriously considering it.

Unfortunately, in the same way the iPod caused me to move to Mac eight years ago, I'm afraid moving away from iPhone (and therefore rediscovering life outside the Apple ecosystem), the Galaxy S3 is causing me to look more seriously at Windows 8.

What phone did you leave the iPhone for?

Looking forward to the LG Nexus unveiling. But if the rumor of no LTE and 8 gb of memory are true, then it'll be a no go. Sick of Google being unwilling to make a high end premium nexus. They always cut corners.
