I agree, equally I agree to differ :) The 16/17 MBP works for many, however it also works against many other users. Perspective clearly differs; one of being satisfied, the other higher expectations.

Please do not take this as being derogatory or condescending as this is not the intent. W10 isn't the great panacea, equally nor is macOS. with both OS having issue. I find myself more drawn to Linux and Unix as a primary OS, however proprietary SW often can and does prohibit.

"Reverse the tides" what would you do if Apple cut you out of your workflow? Retire or fight and speak your mind? My money's on the latter. I can see as a business manager Apple is absolutely on the mark, as a fan of the Mac; disillusioned, disappointed and more importantly no longer a professional user...

Q-6

It’s a good question and i’d Vote with my wallet and buy something else if Apple weren’t making what I want or need. No whinging moaning or histrionics I just would quietly go somewhere else.

It's called sarcasm.... It's pure speculation as to when...and what spec's...Apple will refresh the CPU/GPU's on their MBP's. If someone absolutely needs to replace their MBP, it's a question of how long do you want to wait. You could guess that Apple will refresh the line in April (as they have done in the past)....or they could wait until WWDC in June (as they've also done in the past).

if you think those changes are coming in a few months, and are patient enough to wait for them then that is what you should do

The computers will be priced accordingly, and this years model will be found in the refurb store for a lower price (probably not by much... 10-15% usually). At that point you can buy the latest and greatest, or buy last years latest and greatest (2017 models) at a discount.

If you need that hexa core cpu and 32 gb ram, then wait

To quote myself from the 'Wait for Next Years 2018 MacBook Pro Update if You Can' thread:

To quote myself from the 'What Do You Want to See From Apple in 2018?' thread:

Great ideas, everyone; I've seen a lot that I like in all of the posts here, or at least the ones that I've given likes to. Here's my top wish for 2018: a return of the 17-inch MacBook Pro, with the option for a matte display. Give it at least 4 each of USB Type-A and Type-C ports, the latter all with integrated Thunderbolt 3. Slap in an HDMI port (or maybe even two.) Legacy ports I can get from accessories. Pack the most powerful CPU and GPU and the most RAM you can fit in it at the top build-to-order tier. Restore the function keys' row to the keyboard on models with the Touch Bar, which should also be offered as an option on all models, but not made mandatory. If possible, fit a full-sized keyboard on it, including navigation keys, number pad, extra function keys, and backlighting. Sell it in at least the colors you do MacBook Pros now (Silver and Space Gray,) and perhaps additionally Space Black, White (as a throwback to the iBooks, of course,) Gold, and/or Rose Gold. As for the rest of the MacBook family, I think an overlapping tiered strategy would do nicely with respect to model options: an 11- and 13-inch MacBook Air, a 13- and 15-inch MacBook, and a 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro (or they could do 12 and 14 inches on the Air, at least a 14-incher with the plain MacBook, perhaps adding in one of the other two sizes, and a 14- and a 16-inch Pro.) A headless server and/or BYOKVM machine like a new Mac mini or the promised modular Mac Pro would also be neat, but I can wait for that.

In any case, I sorely need a laptop…three to four years ago, but I'll not bother anybody overly much with my own personal financial irritations. Anything that could run an OS version higher than OS X v10.11.6 'El Capitan' and Xcode v8.2.1 would be better than this clunky old mid-2007 aluminum iMac that I currently still have to share with my family (thank the stars I have my own external boot drive…)

Wait for 2018. It's a no-brainer between new intel chips with 2 more cores and hopefully them fixing the stupid keyboard.

This next model should be one of the biggest performance jumps from year to year since sandy bridge rolled out 7 years ago.

I got a 2017 15" MBP i7 and it is great. Not sure why so many people dislike these machines. Sure, it is expensive, but I think it is totally worth it.

What did you own before? I own a 2015 15" rMBP and it works well. So, I am a little weary of the new system. Hopefully 2018 will change my mind and I can get one. My accountant says I need the tax write off.:)

I had a 2011 MBP 15". Obviously this is a new machine, much more powerful. I was going to wait for the 2018 units, but my 2011 died and I need a new laptop right away. If it hadn't died I would have waited.

I think the design of the 2017 MBP is nice and it's fast with the stuff I do (I'm a video editor). The screen is awesome and I actually like the touchbar. The only minor issue I have with it is that the keyboard is a little noisy. I would highly recommend it.

Because they are sick and tired of the keyboard failing, the absurdly oversized trackpad, the USB-C only ports, the lack of magsafe, etc.

The keyboard on my 2017 failed - the exact same key as on the 2016 it was a replacement for (the "b" key, along with part of the space bar, and the "n" key occasionally). The store I'd been working with finally just refunded me the cost of the 2017, so I bought a 2015 and invested the balance.

A sad endorsement of Apple's inability to serve both it's consumer & professional audience...

I would be so freaking thrilled if Apple basically took the desktop Magic Keyboard and put it in the 2018/19 laptops and got rid of the TouchBar (optionally at least).

I can live with the other issues/changes/compromises/whatever we want to call them, but the current keyboard and the TouchBar being mandatory on 15" models are 100% non-starters for me.

If I were to get greedy...Please fix the arrow key situation, even on the Magic Keyboard. The 2015 laptop keyboard arrow keys are much easier to use for a touch typist.

sted the balance.

Your story makes no sense. There is literally no apple store that will refund your purchase 2 years later. I mean seriously, red flags everywhere .They will give you a replacement but I frankly think your whole story is made up.

Entirely makes sense if you actually read the post and know the history...

Just to prove you wrong, I looked through his "history" and he hasn't made any threads since saying he got the 2017 and its working FINE. In fact one of the last posts he made was selling the 15" 2015 on these forums you interested?

This isn't worth my time. He said he bought the 2015 model because of all the 'trouble he had with the 2016 and then 2017 model. Yet he's been trying to sell the 2015 15" model on these forums since before all of his threads. That is why he is lying.

Sigh . . .

There are none so blind . . .

Remember how skylake was available, and it took Apple until Kaby Lake was released for a year to put it in the 2016 MBP?
The delay was down to an issue with the new battery design they had to sort out, apparently. The machines were originally meant to launch in late spring/ summer 2016, like the 2015 and 2017 models. I guess that points to late spring/ summer 2018 for the refresh this year too.

So is this really going to happen? I too have a failing MBP and need to update as soon as possible. I'm trying to hold out as long as I can.. but it's getting tricky...

It will probably happen between March 27th and June the 4th. For me, the sooner the better (I already use my Air 2 years longer than originally planned ... and it has started to be almost unusable :( ).

I hope it comes soon... I've had mine since 2009... :(
