Watch his video below. He is right about the things missing that would have really made the 11 Pro a “pro” phone. I’m sure some of these things will come next year with the redesign. I wonder though if Apple didn’t know where to go with naming after XS and XR so decided to bite the bullet and pull out the “pro” nomenclature this year.

Apple pulled the marketing lever again, we saw this with iPhone 8. Not enough new features? Upgrade the name.

What are Pro features? Triple camera, OLED, 18W charging, bigger battery? Those features are familiar on many other phones.

But these are Pro Features.

Sure, other phones have big batteries too.. but they don't have the Pro Battery® in the iPhone Pro.

Apple always knew people would not be as interested in this year's phones so they upped the naming to make us believe it's something spectacular. It isn't. But I'm sure they're aware that we're expecting a bigger upgrade next year and they're planning much more cool stuff for the next iPhones.

So many people hung up on three letters in the name of a phone. This is Apple fixing the marketing issues they had with the iPhone Xr. The iPhone 8 2 years ago, and the Xr last year were meant to be the ‘normal’ phone with the X and the Xs as the pro versions. The iPhone has been Pro for a long time. They changed peoples mindsets making the iPhone 8 and Xr as ‘less than’ rather than making the X and Xs as pluses. They fixed that now.

Stephen Hackett made a good point on the latest Connected podcast. They were discussing this video. Stephen said the name changes were to bring clarity to the lineup. He also said if they added all these features to the “pro” models it would’ve made the 11 look like the ugly stepchild. Instead Apple made the phones very similar and knocked $50 off the price of the 11 (the phone I think they’re positioning as the iPhone for most people).

For me the names this year were about getting off the stupid XS XR naming convention and nothing more. Apple picked “pro” because that’s what they did with the iPad lineup. To me the “pro” isn’t much more than if you want an OLED screen it’s going to cost you. I much prefer this to purposely making the 11 an inferior phone to try and upsell you to a “pro” model.

The fact they threw in the $29 fast charge accessory shows they were compensating for the fact the hardware specs aren’t as attractive as they should be.

Because since when has Apple has decided to throw in an accessory they typically sell separately for a nice margin? Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure it will be a great phone, but clearly they felt the need to add something more enticing to the package. I’m sure they had 209 meetings about this internally.

When was the last time Apple gave away a year of a free service with purchase?

When Apple didn't include fast charger before, people complained, now that the fast charger is included it is considered 'compensation'. Seriously? Is 3rd lens on Pro models or A13 Bionic CPU also compensation?

Apple doesn’t heed to complaints unless it hits the mainstream media in a big way (I.e: antenna gate).

Doesn’t have anything major to differentiate between ‘pro’ & the XS max to justify the name. Yeah it has a better camera but every new iPhone has a better camera than the previous year.

I’m curious about next year, it’s been rumored that is going to be redesigned, so will they jump straight to iPhone 12?

It’s better for Apple if the question is, is the 11 Pro worth the extra $300 than boy Apple really skimped out on the 11 to hit a price point. The 11 will be the best selling model and I think Apple will be fine with that.

People have been saying this every single year since the iPhone 6.

It’s time to accept that phone technology has plateaued for a while. Just like with cars... New models release every year, with slight improvements from the previous year. Major redesigns don’t happen for a number of years.

It’s ridiculous to expect that you should feel the need to upgrade every single year. Instead, maybe just realize that phones stay relevant longer nowadays.

There's nothing pro about the new iPhones. They used the name pro cause they didn't want to bastardized the iPhone 11 by calling it 11R, so by calling the 11R the 11, they had to come up with a new name for the regular and max models, hence why they are pro but nothing about it is pro like mkbhd said.

Best time to get the XS, not as ugly, cheaper, and good hardware. So much marketing for 3D Touch only to have it removed.

I don’t think people understand just how advanced some of the camera features really are in the Pro. Filming with FOUR cameras at the same time is hard to accomplish. The color balance when switching between camera while filming is amazing. The improvement in screen colors and brightness are impressive. I’m looking forward to this phone, even in anticipation of the redesign plus 5G phones of next year.

And whose Pro is going to use this instead of their PRO cameras that are already built for this task?
This is pure market BS. No pro is going to trade their gear for a phone.
