Which would mean less sales in the US AND globally. Sure, the US is a large chunk of Apple's market at 43% - but that's still a minority. As long as Tim Cook has to please shareholders, they probably won't sabotage the other 57% of their revenue.Of course. Why would you think it wouldn't? Americans pay $2000 for an iPhone and Europeans will pay 3000€ for the same iPhone.
They will increase in many countries anyway because of retaliatory tariffs. I’m not sure how many Americans understand that the price of their exports will rise (leading to a decrease in demand) in any country choosing to impose their own tariffs eg China. At the moment there are few tariffs imposed on America. Trump’s cardboard table is a lie - they are not tariffs.
Apple products are not exported from the US, though. They will increase in many countries anyway because of retaliatory tariffs. Tim Cook could be clever and only import iPhones made in India into the US. That would reduce the tariff from 54% to 26%.
What could possibly go wrong when a six time bankrupt person determines the economic policy of a country?
It is as if a kindergarten made those calculationsThey will increase in many countries anyway because of retaliatory tariffs. I'm in Australia so Trump's tariffs don't apply.
Wouldn't be surprised if a heap of Americans are seen crossing the Canadian/Mexican borders in order to buy iPhones. They might as well buy a couple for 'friends'.
Suspect old mate's gonna learn that when you do silly stuff that increases tax on items by ~40% for no good reason (using wartime powers in a rather dubious manner), people will find alternatives.
Not true. Australia won’t put tariffs on china, so apple can still import iPhones to Australia as before. iPhones are NOT exported from the US, so only prices for stuff the US imports or exports will rise.Prices will rise worldwide. Australia is part of the planet.
Only a little, due to the general inflationary pressures that are the fallout of Trump's insane trade war. The items are shipping from China to Australia. Those two countries are not applying any new tariffs to each other.Prices will rise worldwide. Australia is part of the planet.
This really is almost literally true. When you look at the minuscule amount of effort that went into crafting the policy, like none whatsoever, versus the amount of documentation, lies and tortured logic spent trying to justify it to the American people, you really have to wonder what's gone on here. Who spends 0% effort on a plan, and 100% effort obfuscating the plan? Either he's literally insane and surrounded himself with utter morons, or some people made big money on the last massive crash and decided to engineer another one fast before anyone else catches on.It is as if a kindergarten made those calculations

Of course they could, but historically they didn’t. Seems like they have a target profit margin they want to hit and gonna adjust the retail price accordingly.Apple could very well increase prices across the boards to effectively subsidize imports to the US so that their US prices don't rise as much.

If anything they should reduce prices due to the dollar collapsing in value.Apple could very well increase prices across the board to effectively subsidize imports to the US so that their US prices don't rise as much.
People also need to realise that the retaliatory tariffs will be against the US only. They will increase in many countries anyway because of retaliatory tariffs. With consumers worldwide already starting to boycott American companies, and Tim Cook publicly aligning with Trump by donating to his inauguration, that's simply not going to work.Apple could very well increase prices across the board to effectively subsidize imports to the US so that their US prices don't rise as much.
Apple already charges a premium in the EU to subsidise Americans. The market won't accept more. With consumers worldwide already starting to boycott American companies, and Tim Cook publicly aligning with Trump by donating to his inauguration, that's simply not going to work.
A better choice would be for Apple to do the same thing Americans do with sales taxes, advertise the 'rest of the world' price on their website and add the Trump Tariff Tax at checkout just for US citizens.
