I still use a 5 for work and it performs quite well considering its age and with iOS 9 on the way it should get even better. Of course the 5S should be even better than my old 5 and touch id is great to have as well.

My wife still uses it. Doesn't even want my 6 when I get my 6S Plus. It's the only phone she's been happy with in 3 years.

The 5S is still a perfectly good and capable phone, OS 9.1 has done nothing but breathe new life in to it. I know people still rocking a 5 and earlier who are perfectly happy. The only thing really "outdated" is the size; not to say that 4" is a bad size or even actual outdated but a LOT of people have the 6 now and which may make the 5S seem older than it actually is... if that makes sense.

May I ask what iOS 9.1 has done to breath new life into the 5S, as you say? Cheers.

Well, even though it doesn't bring anything really new it's the first update of iOS that really makes the phone feel like it's box fresh again. 8.3, 8.2, 9.0 (beta) have all gradually made me start to really feel like the time has come to upgrade with it gradually getting slower and the battery not really being up to scratch.

I've now been on 9.1 for 3 days and I know that is hardly an eternity but it's incredibly smooth, fluid and fast and the battery is actually lasting as long as it did the day I first got it on launch day 2 years ago.

It's hard to explain and perhaps hard to comprehend if you haven't spent the last 2 years living with one but to me it's the upgrade that really makes you think "wow, this is still an excellent and perfectly capable phone".

My daughter now has my IPhone 5s. The Touch ID rarely worked for me but works flawlessly for her. It works great overall and the only downside is poor battery life. It's not defective it's just looking bad compared to iPhone 6Plus which has spoiled me and my husband.

I think it's still a viable phone. About half the people I know are still using it and won't upgrade until 7.

It's a great phone. No complaints. I'm not into the super thin iPhones. Like carrying around a spatula. No thanks.

Oh 5S owners, if you are troubled by IOS 9 GM, get on the 9.1 beta or hold out for 9.1. The GM was a mess on my 5S (ran hot, laggy, battery life dropped). But 9.1 is super smooth. Like a brand new phone. Could have just been my experience but I am seeing others say the same over in IOS9 forum as well.

How is your battery life?

The fingerprint sensor fails to recognize my fingerprint 75% of the time.
My first go, it was iffy. So I wiped out the first batch of reads and started again. Close to 90% rate since. I would give it several rounds with clean fingers before giving up.

Picked up my new 5s last year for cheap. Will prob run it till os11 before passing it to family. Wouldn't want to work full time on it, but it's a trusty companion to my mini pad.

Phenomenal phone - Been using one since they were new and I'm not upgrading anytime soon as there's no new device in the same physical size category.

My 5S is still being used even after all this time. It is just becoming a work phone since its capabilities are so untapped. The 64-bit architecture (first of its kind) has enabled it to endure and still perform nicely. Now if I could somehow get an micro arc reactor in there to help with battery....

5S is one of the best iPhones IMO. Light, sturdy, high performance, good pictures, etc. If it weren't for the battery, I wouldn't switch to a 6 plus.

i like a small 4" phone.

Am I being stupid to buy a 32g 5s from Apple? while everyone prefers 6s or 6s+. do you rather pay $300 more for 6s?

5s 64gb gold here. My fav because of the size, weight, excellent battery life.
5 was terrible because of battery life and no Touch ID, game graphics are at lower quality too in 5.

I'm waiting for 7 and better design than 6/6s

I'm still on the 5S until I can get my hands a 6C or phone with a 4.7" screen. I tried out the 6 and didn't was constantly having to use two hands to navigate.

Although, I would like the extra memory from the 64Gb 5S. I don't have any music and still only have about 2gb of free space.

I love my 5s. Compact and still excellent after two years. But the screen is just too small. Find myself not using the phone and gravitating towards the ipad, when it would be more convenient not to. The 6s would be pretty perfect but I've opted for the Plus because the device for me is a media device. Still need it to be pocket portable (as opposed to lugging my ipad 4 around). Guess it just comes down to what you prioritise. You can still do everything on the 5s you can do on a Plus but just not as big or as quick.

If a phone was any good to begin with, it's still probably going to be a pretty good phone for most people 2 years later. Lots of people are still using older, less capable phones than the 5s.

The 5s is still a great phone. Only knock against it is the battery life after having owned it for almost 2 years. Like others have mentioned, it's still quick and run apps and stream videos very well.

It does seem ridiculously small, however, once you've become accustomed to using a 6+.

The 5s is a great phone and I use it a ton (small business owner...my cell is my only line). I just need a bigger screen so went with the 6s Plus on this preorder (I only upgrade on the "s" cycle)

My battery life wasn't great after I upgraded to iOS 8 from 7 but it performs well otherwise. Recently when to iOS 9.1 Beta and it runs it well. No lagging and battery life is no better or worse.

It's a good phone, and I much prefer it design wise to the new iPhones - I'm upgrading primarily because of the battery life (although iOS 9 may have eliminated the issue!) , but also the lack of NFC & the improved camera further persuaded me to go for a 6s.

Not only do I use it, but I just bought it. I like the small size and compact, robust build. My favorite iPhone design so far was the 4/ 4S. I have an iPad mini, so it makes no sense to have a larger phone unless I went all-in and ditched the iPad for a 6+ or 6S+. I am small, my pockets are small, so it just makes sense. I also hate the rear design of the 6. The only features of the newer phones I covet are Apple Pay, live photos, and 2GB of ram.

I'm struggling with this a bit myself.

I prefer the 5S exterior design to the 6S, but the 6S has a much nicer LCD panel and much better LTE support (more bands and VoLTE). The 6S is clearly the way to go for future proofing, but the 5S appearance is just really slick.
