Does the iPhone XR feel too thick?

My XR didn’t charge overnight due to the cable being lose, reconnected and it’s fine, but I have had to use my 6S again today, and I miss using the XR! Even though I only got it yesterday! Too thick, NO! It’s fantastic.

I love it. I’m a small woman, and I put it in my pocket easily and am astonished when men a lot bigger than I am say they can’t easily carry a phone that size on them or even hold it.

I guess the problem with men is they’ve got to carry too much in their pockets. I do have the luxury of a purse or bag or a small backpack when I want to be a technological marsupial.

There maybe some men who are changing their gender so they can use xr comfortably & keep it in purse.

I don’t think it’s too thick. I came from 8+ and didn’t want to go as small as the XS. I love the size of the XR, and I’m fairly small with small hands. I have a Loopy case and screen protector on it, and can also use it one-handed with no issues.

Passed by my local store and played around with the 2018 models. The XS Max is very nice but its thinness makes it not the easiest to hold. Found it harder to hold the Max with one hand from the bottom corner. I had to hold it a little higher meaning that it was very uncomfortable to use gestures like switching apps. With the XR, I could hold it firmly in my hand from the bottom corner and had no issues using gestures. It does feel thicker but I had a much better grip with the XR than the Max. I just found the Max more easily uncomfortable compared to the XR, especially for one-handed use.

My hesitation is now more between the XS and XR (XS Max seems to big for my usage). Having said that I wouldn't use the XR with a case. Seems like the XR is as having an XS with a case, although the XS seems too small for that big screen experience..

Go to the store look at it, hold it and see for yourself. What others think in immaterial to anyone else. You must make that decision. I find the XR perfect for me.

For me it feels good in the hand. I have black Otterbox Symmetry case on it. However, personally, I prefer phones that have some heft. Just feels more solid. But it is personal preference, so what works for me, may not work for others. It is best to check in person.

It's funny that with most new iPhone releases there are so many complaints about the new phone being too thin and that people want more battery life even if it means the phone is thicker.

At least now people have the choice.

Within the first few minutes of using my new XR, I realized that my thumb could no longer reach all the way across the keyboard. Not without an unusual amount of effort. No more one handed texting or anything else really.
Do you think Apple overlooked that when designing it? No. Its Apple. Every design element is extremely intentional. So what is the purpose of making it just barely big enough that you have to use two hands? I’ll give you a clue, its not so they can fit all the new tech inside it:

(Don’t get me wrong, its a lovely design and the new screen and interface is absolutely gorgeous. But when I realized what they’re doing, I’m thinking about giving this to my dad and switching back to my 6s.

I got an XR some weeks ago, and the thickness and bulky bezels makes me want NOT to put on a case this thing. Without a case I think the dimensions are passable.

From what I've seen in tests, the XR is actually pretty durable, so I'm fine w/o a case.

True but you can very easily shift the keyboard to the left or right making it possible to write one-handed. Not the best but it works quite well. Just getting used to.

I like that Apple is making thicker devices with more battery life. Last year iPad and now the iPhone XR. Definitely a big thumbs up from me, it’s been my dream seen the early Droid Maxx days, back when I was rocking a Morphie Juice Pack on my iPhone.

It felt a little thick compared to my 7 and galaxy s8+ but it wasn't too thick and the insane battery life was more than worth the tiny extra thickness for me. I did return it though as the cost wasn't worth over my 7 in the end, will probably wait another year and see what happens.

its the weirdest thing...my hands are bigger than yours and I can use my Xr one handed! Not everybody has small hands.

Update:

I got an iPhone XR mainly for price + screen size. Been using it for 2 weeks and I'm quite happy with it (not going into details why to keep to the subject). However, I'm still getting used to the size. Can't really tell if it's due the thickness or the bigger size (coming from a 6) but it definitely feels like a big phone, not too big though. I'm only bothered by this when thinking about this aspect but in everyday use, you don't feel it as much. My girflriend has an XS and it feels too small now. Overall, it would be nice if the XR was thinner but it's not too thick. It's just the time to get used to it!

And adding a case makes it feel really thicker so not the best if you want to get the big armoured ones. Went with a cheap slim case personally.

PS: small tip, don't get a matte screen protector. Cheaper but it eats on the beauty of the screen..

I don't understand this discussion, we're talking about .6mm more than the Xs
Also, It seemed to be a running theme here on the forum and on the internet in general, that people complained about the Apple's obsession with thinnes. I saw a lot of comments like "I would like my MacBook/iPad/iPhone a bit thicker if it meant better battery life etc.". Where are those people know?

Again, it always comes down to preference. Some people will b*tch about slim products, some people will b*tch about thick products. Not like the iPhone lineup is the biggest it has ever been.

iPhone XR is gorgeous without case. Also feels so much better to hold.
I’m getting caudabe sheath case today in mail. I’m hoping it’s thin enough to still manage the comfort grip without adding any bulky part
