What's easier to steal? A Wallet or phone? Someone can walk by as you're holding your phone and snatch it at any time, not just in "bad" parts of the city. Now not only is your phone gone, so is your wallet. Getting your phone replace is easier than betting your phone plus your CC and driver's license replaced.

That just seems like a weird reason to not use one. Does that happen… sure but it can’t possibly be that big of a risk in most areas. Look at all the women that carry a purse of some sort. Same concept. If the purse gets snatched phone, wallet, cards, ID and all of that are gone.

If in a public area and it is a concern it’s very easy to pop the wallet off while in the pocket or a purse/bag and just bring out the phone.

I feel like $60 for the Apple wallet is too much considering that Popsockets has a MagSafe wallet with a Popsocket included for $40. More function for less.

I don't know where you live where this is such a common occurrence that it's buying decision factor for you, but I'm glad I don't live there!

Can anyone compare how last year saddle brown wallet feels vs this years midnight wallet? In my experience the black cases had more texture and were softer for grip than the saddle brown. The saddle brown felt more slippy like it had a coating on it. Hoping the midnight is softer and more leather texture.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/phone-theft-problem.2312595/ See this thread for an example of this issue. Unfortunately this is a major issue for people in certain countries so I wouldn't recommend the wallet to them even if they like the idea.

Personally I have way too much in my wallet to streamline, even if some of the things in it have been invalid for a few decades...

$95 AUD, love mine. The dark cherry leather this year is so beautiful (makes me want to get a new iPhone just so I can use that case (terrible idea)).

I don’t think this is a product for most people. There are plenty of other cheaper, more sane options. But this thing is built to Apple’s standards, and it’s very pretty. I’m extremely satisfied with my purchase.

I think they just added Apple Pay to the pumps. Maybe some stations don’t have it yet.
Yes they have Apple pay but not for the membership scan. I just talked to one of the Costco supervisors yesterday as I was struggling to get my Costco card out of my still tight wallet and he agreed adding it to the Apple wallet would be a good idea.

Anyone with this wallet driving a Tesla? If i put the Key card in it and tap the phone on the pillar will it unlock the door? iPhone 13 PM will not always get detected by the car and instead of unlocking the phone and launch the app i could just tap the phone on the pillar. Can someone please test that before i spent 80$ Canadian bucks on this expensive item?

13 pro seems worse for me unlocking using the app as well. The 11 pm was more consistent and STILL wasn’t very good, especially if you keep your phone in your back pocket. Not sure if 5.0 is lower power or has worse distance or what. The only alternative is paying $175 for the Tesla key fob which is also not ideal

I wonder if Apple will feel pressured to open up the FindMy aspect to third parties like they did with AirTags. I mean, it's just an NFC sticker at the end of the day. You could almost pull off that functionality yourself with Shortcuts. The only thing stopping us is the fact that the NFC functionality in Shortcuts only works when the screen is on. That's a software limitation, not a hardware one.

Edit to add: I really wish Apple had done more with the FindMy feature. I would have loved to see it be an actual AirTag that used the reverse wireless charging that the iPhone now supports. The iPhone doesn't output much power to begin with, but since the AirTag doesn't need much power this is one of the few applications where they could really take advantage of it.

That... That's bleeding genius. Though I wonder how small the wireless charging coil can be and if size was a limitation in not putting wireless charging in the AirTag??

Errr no lol. I’ve never entertained ever getting one to be honest. We are in an era where nearly every shop accepts contactless payments, so it’s doubly bizarre Apple are releasing a snap on wallet to hold cards to the back of an iPhone lol. The fact it’s £60 makes it even more hilarious and bewildering I think. It’s a nice touch lol.

No, this wouldn't be the normal AirTags we have now that are built around the coin cell battery. This would just be that tiny circuit board. For the battery I was imagining a rechargeable one the size and shape of a credit card. Title pretty much has that product already. I was just imaging that wrapped in leather with room for the two cards the current one has. So the overall product would probably be thicker, but worth it in my opinion.

Contactless payment hasn't been adopted as widely in the US (Apple is a US company after all). I won't get into the details here. If you're really interested, just about every topic on ApplePay devolves into how the US is so much worse than <insert entire continent here>.

OH I get you now! As in the entire MagSafe wallet is an AirTag

Doesn't work for me, I currently have in my "thin" Fossil money clip: Driver's License, Provincial Health Services Card, Bank Debit Card, Visa, Mastercard, Transit card, and Costco card. The Costco card can stay in my car for weekend grocery trips, but the other ones I would need to keep on me.
Costco card can go on your phone with the Costco app.

My healthcare card (Aetna) is saved as an Apple Wallet pass. And it’s also accessible via their app.

I’ve got the Apple MagSafe wallet. And while it may not work for me 100% of the time, it will for greater than 75%, so it’s one less thing for me to have to carry. Driver’s license and two cards go in the MagSafe wallet, then into a front pocket. Cash goes in other pocket with car key.

It sucks that you can't use the digital card at Costco's gas station tho :/ I would definitely not carry mine in my current wallet if that was the case. I wanna switch to the apple leather wallet soon but need to figure out a system for the other cards in my wallet lol

Oh, interesting. Never tried. Guess it can stay in one’s car if that’s the case. I drive electric, so 🤷‍♂️

I’ve had mine since last year and I still use it every day.

I always had a minimalist wallet. iPhone aside this is a great fit for me and the only wallet I use

Yeah the US have always been about 10 years behind Europe in the banking sector but it’s not a concern for me. Apple is a globally operating company so they have to adapt well. I’m sure this card holder sells much better there than it would in Europe or Asia.

I didn't think I would like the Apple Magsafe wallet version 2. I bought one last weekend and thus far, it has worked well with my MagSafe Marigold Silicone case. It stays put and isn't really easy to dislodge. I like it much better than the George Costanza in the back pocket method.

Obviously, you didn't have any hard candy in there. George's wallet is... well, cantstandsya. LOL.

Wouldn’t more widespread contactless payments make this product more likely to be a success? It would make it easier to get by with just an ID and one or two other cards. It’s a little presumptuous so say that because a product isn’t for you, then it must not be for other people in your country/region/continent.
