Wouldn’t more widespread contactless payments make this product more likely to be a success? It would make it easier to get by with just an ID and one or two other cards. It’s a little presumptuous so say that because a product isn’t for you, then it must not be for other people in your country/region/continent.

I haven’t bumped into anybody using one yet and haven’t said it’s not for everybody in my region, not sure where you got that from.

From a personal standpoint I often don’t carry other cards unless I am expecting to use one. I don’t carry my drivers license during the week as any shops or establishments I go into accept ApplePay as nearly all do. Adding bulk to the phone also seems odd for me but like I’ve always implied, I don’t speak for everybody. I can’t imagine they are as popular here due to our systems, that’s all.

Going on 2 weeks now for me and I am enjoying the freedom of basically just carrying my phone plus my other few pocket items. Out of town this weekend so it is the first time I have carried my regular wallet at all and I just put it in the glove box. I wish there was a way to get around the Costco gas card as I would rather carry my Amex but Apple Pay has given me all the options I have needed so far.

As a bonus, the wallet does make one-handed use of my 13 Pro Max a bit easier.

13 pro seems worse for me unlocking using the app as well. The 11 pm was more consistent and STILL wasn’t very good, especially if you keep your phone in your back pocket. Not sure if 5.0 is lower power or has worse distance or what. The only alternative is paying $175 for the Tesla key fob which is also not ideal

Yeh iPhone 13 is having difficulty to get detected by the car same for my XS Max. My Samsung S21 Ultra worked 10 out of 10 because the app would always be in the background and as soon as i would approach the car i could see the phone connected to the car, even while still in the elevator. Best way to make it work is to leave the Tesla app in the background. I bought the keyfob but i really don’t wanna bring keys or fobs on me anymore.
Phone and Apple wallet is the only items i carry. No Keys.

I have never carried a wallet and only take a card if I know I’ll need it. My DL stays in the car and I grab it if I need it. That being said. For my work I have to wear scrubs and there are only 2 pockets. I use my card when paying for food etc because no room for cash.

the magnet feels stronger than the gen 1 wallet. It holds 3 cards max and it’s snug. I love the minimalistic nature of it and paired with the apple case, which now has a lip around the camera, it hasn’t slipped off yet.

Would I buy it again? Yes. Is it worth $60? Maybe. If I bought any other wallet that was nice etc. I’d pay almost that much and apple wallet has other features too. Over all 8/10.

I try to use apple pay whenever possible too.

I’m itching to give it a shot when I receive mines this week. I normally carry a minimalist wallet in my back pocket and my iPhone 12 Pro in my front pocket.

So I upgraded from the XS to the 13 Pro last week, and I got the Spigen wallet yesterday. They make two, and I got the one that you can use as a stand, similar to the Moft. The disadvantage of the stand wallets is that all the extra.... stuff.... that folds to make the stand adds thickness. Still, with two cards I would say it's about as thick as Apple's. The magnets on the Spigen very good. I gave the phone a very though shake test and could not get it to come off no matter how vigorous I got. Only when I gave the phone a moderate thump on my palm did it finally come off. This one definitely passes the head-banger test.

As for pulling it in and out of pockets, I watched a lot of YouTube videos from last year where everyone was complaining about Apple's coming off. Every single one of them would put the bottom of the phone in the pocket, then shifted to pushing the phone in from the top. To me that seems like they were just trying to get it to come off, because I've NEVER done it that way. I always put my palm across the face of the phone (either the screen or the back) with my fingers touching the bottom of the phone, the top up near my wrist, and my thumb, ring and pinky fingers gripping it from the sides. I then use my index and middle fingers to push the top of the pocket open and drop my phone in. I don't wear skinny jeans or other tight fitting pants, but if I did I would just slide my entire hand in while doing this. Because of this, the wallet barely even touches the pocket material until it's already in my pocket. I don't see how it would ever fall off even if the magnets were weaker.

While I got very detailed there, I actually had to think and pay attention to what I was doing in order to provide that description. That's all automatic for me and I've been doing it that way since the original iPhone. While I don't doubt that it's a problem for some, I think the whole thing that the magnets are too weak has been blown way out of proportion. I'm quite convinced that a bunch of YouTubers were just trying to score some views by bashing an Apple product. Because, you know, that's NEVER happened before.

As for dealing with the limited number of cards, I have found a way that I can pare down to just two cards, a debit card and a credit card. I live in Colorado, and the sate has it's own app. I was able to use this to obtain digital copies of my driver's license and my vaccine card. This counts as a legal ID anywhere within the state. I've even talked to a few bar tender friends of mine, and they've all been trained to accept this as a valid ID. I also downloaded the apps for my insurance companies (health and auto), and now have those cards on my phone as well. With this I have my bases covered in at least 75% of the scenarios I can think of. Heck, even the library here doesn't need your actual card if you just give them your phone number and ID to look you up. Getting gas at Costco, as others have mentioned, is probably the biggest exception here. But I can just leave the card in my car, and the pumps do have what look to be scanners that could read the QR code in the app. These appear to be disabled currently though.

All in all I think this will work, and my back is going to thank me. I'm still on the fence on whether I'll stick with the Spigen or switch to the Apple wallet. I'm going to take this week to determine whether the extra few millimeters are worth it for the utility of the stand for the Spigen.

Not worth it at all.

For €20 I bought a Spigen wallet that I can also use as a stand.

I like mine but will become obsolete for me when everywhere I go takes ApplePay and I can get my ID stored in the Wallet App on my iPhone.
Digital Wallet is fast approaching :)

I love the MagSafe Wallet. A few weeks ago I’d have said never worth it in a million years, but received one for my birthday so been using it and it’s unexpectedly brilliant. 2 observations apart from the obvious stuff (holds 3 cards well and FindMy is cool) - 1) the magnet is waaaay better than the YouTube videos make out, it holds on very tightly and for me hasn’t slipped off unintentionally yet. 2) It’s replaced a case for me - protects the back of the phone pretty well and doesn’t slip off soft surfaces like the glass back, and also makes the phone really comfortable to hold. Plus the phones looks so much better without a case.

So I’d now say it’s well worth $60

Wait, so you're answering a question directed at folks that paid for the Apple wallet saying it's not worth it because you bought a different brand for cheaper?

Solid logic there.

I don’t think the OP or title say anything about you having to have bought it, just whether ‘it’s worth it to you’.

Like any product, I don’t think you need to own it to decide whether you want it or like it. It’s always a flawed logic in my view when it’s recommended someone needs to own something in order to have an opinion on it.

Dumbest idea ever imo, 2 cards you can have in your phone anyway, lic and cc, so no, never seen anyone with one either.

I’ve used a MagSafe wallet, but returned it because it was not worth its money.
The Spigen wallet on the other hand is much cheaper AND has extra functionality.

If you live in an area that everything has gone digital then yeah it doesn’t have as much use, however for the MANY areas that haven’t adopted a digital license yet or still have businesses that don’t take Apple Pay, it certainly has a use.

In most scenarios I would agree, but in this specific case I believe you need to use it before you decide. I thought it was a silly idea when it was first introduced; that all changed when I bit the bullet and got one to try.

Mine holds three: Apple Card, debit card and driver's license.

Makes sense. Thanks for clarifying. Personally I prefer the leather as I'm 100% leather case every year but added features are never a bad thing (unless, of course, they're poorly implemented).

I don’t think a magnetic card holder is a particularly difficult concept to grasp or do I think you need to own one to understand it. I totally accept others may love it and find it really useful but in my country 99% of my purchases in shops when out and about are done via ApplePay off my watch. Having a couple of cards I rarely use stuck to the back of my iPhone in a wallet that costs £60 is about as useless for me as it gets. As I said previously, this sort of product is probably more popular in countries where cards are still used more than in others.

Yes, I'm in the US. Apple Pay is definitely picking up but it's not everywhere. The nice thing about the Apple wallet vs. a wallet case is you don't have to have it stuck to your phone when you don't need it. It stays in a hidden cubby in my car until a situation arises that I need it. If I'm going somewhere in someone else's car, I'll grab the wallet and slip it in my back pocket or slap it on the phone, whichever suits my fancy at that moment.

I still don't get how it follows that you would essentially say you don't need to carry as many cards as those in the US, so a minimalist wallet doesn't make sense. Are you saying you don't carry a wallet at all?

This is exactly how I use it as well - the ease at which you can disconnect, hide it in the car somewhere - and grab it to use like a normal wallet or attach it to the phone is one of the main reasons why I love this product so much.

I haven’t carried a wallet for a long time no. I occasionally carry some cash but that’s rare these days as everything down to pubs have contactless terminals. I do have a wallet that I store cards in, but I simply don’t have to carry it. The pandemic seems to have encouraged any establishments that hadn’t upgraded to card payments, to do so. It’s now more of a challenge to find somewhere that doesn’t accept card payments, than ones that do.
