The wired Mighty Mouse is fine, but don't even bother trying to draw a remotely straight line or an even curve with the wireless Bluetooth MM.

A few months ago I was debating on this to get a mighty mouse or the logitech v470. I bought the v470 first because I came across a deal ($20 after mib). I loved it it was comfortable and functioned flawlessly with my mb. Battery lasted 6+ months.

Then I came across a deal for the mighty mouse, so I bought it because I wanted to see what the hype was about. It functions well for me because I use spaces. I use the middle click to display spaces and squeeze the sidesto display all main windows. I love it because of this function. The only downside is that it's not that comfortable under your hand, but I guess you learn to adapt.

Quick question....can you use the scroll wheel as a button? Most mice allow the scroll wheel to be pushed in as a button. I'm just wondering if this is possible w/ the MM?

Thanks

I would say avoid getting it. I have one and every other week you need to clean the scroll button because it becomes inactive. It's kind of a pain in butt to keep cleaning it.

No kidding! I can't stand the wired one that came with my iMac (June, 2007). I've had to clean that darn thing SO many times - and I'm not using it after gardening or something, lol.

Finally, the other day, after trying to get it to work yet AGAIN, it just was hopeless. I called Apple and they are sending me out another one to replace it (my nearest Apple store is not so near) with a box to return the old one. After dealing with, shall we say, less than stellar customer service all week with unnamed companies, Apple's service is almost always awesome.

I still plan on getting wireless Revolutions for the iMac and my MB, so just might sell the darn thing when I get it.

Just gone wireless with my MM and have no issues with it to be honest. Love the extra weight to it over the wired version.

I love using the wireless MM at my cousin's place. Though all the drawbacks mentioned in this thread and in the apple store's review section are valid, I still bought one this morning. I just love the way my hand sits on it (I have rather small hands) and I love the scroll ball (when it works).

I am currently using a logitech G5 mouse for the time being without the Logitech drivers installed or any software for that matter (no steermouse or wtv its called though I hear many good things about it). I find the G5 way too jumpy in OS X. OS X has a somewhat "magnetic" mouse pointer movement where it would do little movements that I couldn't even do with my hands. I don't know what is causing this but it only happens with this mouse in OS X. It's simply not smooth enough for me in the end. I never had that problem using the MM.

Mighty Mouse falls down on the scroll nipple/ball thingy

The scroll nipple/ball is the problem. After a few months grease or dirt gets in and the scroll wheel stops scrolling. You can spend a lot of time looking up solutions on the internet and trying all sorts of things but the basic problem is with the design. And unlike old mice you can't easily access the ball and clean it. I really like using a scroll wheel so I end up buying a third party mouse.

So irritating that in certain cases Apple designs something that looks great and works well and then forgets about long term use. Or short term use in this case. Every so often Apple does this and then pretends everything's fine.

Has anyone found a lasting solution to this scroll nipple problem?

I think it depends on personal preference and getting used to it. I love the crazy squishing and clicking options but my dad can't stand it and went back to his old mouse. :D

It also probably has a lot to do with hand size and how one holds the mouse because some people hold the mouse right where the squish sides are and inadvertently keep pressing them. :)

Oh, and whenever something gets stuck in the track ball, I take one finger and push down really hard and roll back and forth quickly. Works for me!

I owned a Bluetooth one. Sold it and got the VX Revolution two years ago. Best mouse ever.

I have a wired Mighty Mouse because it came with my iMac. I didn't bother to take it out of it's packaging though, I'm leaving it in the box for when I sell the iMac to upgrade in the (fairly) distant future.

The wired Apple keyboard is awesome though, I plugged the VX Revolution's receiver in one of the keyboard's USB ports, and it all but disappeared! I can pretend I have a Bluetooth VX Revolution! :D

I think the Mighty Mouse is kind of Mighty- aesthetically, it's beautiful and it matches my MacBook, and I like the integrated buttons on it too. Performance is not too bad either- no random drop outs (I've got the wireless model), and the connection is always strong. But I do think it's a little over-priced for what it is.

Here and Here are a couple of reviews of the Targus Mice with 4-way Touch Scroll.

Why do all these reviews about BT mice quote high latency times? I have no problems with the BT MM, but hate servicing the scroll-ball. Like the idea of the targus system, but if latency really is a problem with them, damn.
The reviewer says all BT mice he's tried, but how many really? and if you're not into pro-apps - who would notice the milliseconds they quote?

*confused*

I use a MX revolution while at home and a logitech BT travel mouse when away. I have a mighty mouse that i pull out as a joke for friends.

I need to use the mouse a lot. Everything from the weight, to the way it clicks, to the sound it makes when clicking, feels cheap with the Mighty Mouse. I'm using the MX Revolution and it feels so much better, and looks good too.

Lifting the fingers is not that difficult, at least I don't have that much problems with it. I have mixed feelings about the mouse, the scrollball easily gets dirty and it's not a great choice if you plan to play some games from time to time. On a positive note, I have the BT version and the battery lasts an eternity. Scrollbar, when properly working, is useful. I recently I bought a Logitech Bluetooth mouse, but I'm still using the MM most of the times. Don't even know exactly why, maybe because I'm just a stupid Apple fanboy.
